I didn't think Gypsy communities still existed in America. Have they mostly assimilated? I recently heard about Irish Travelers; these type of nomadic peoples certainly lead an interesting lifestyle. Very nice brick work, by the way.
As the owner of this video, I have removed comments from this post that I found offensive and patently bigoted. The purpose of this video is to show a community most people know nothing about, not to breed insult toward anyone, regardless of their cultural practices. I do not want my video to become a sounding board for people who have an issue with these folks. I support your right to believe what you will and say it all you want, just not here.
UM NO..these comments are obviously from ppl who have not had the priviledge of dealing with these people. The video only shows you one sign they have in front of their homes.. but I will tell you that there are BIG HUGE posters of their babies in all kinds of clothing with "We're hot and you're not!" in neon lettering. Also photos of children, yes I'm talking 12 years old, in wedding dresses at their actual weddings. The husbands are as old as 60.This needs to be exposed..it's heartbreaking!
I knew they were known for blacktop, sealcoating, and shingling but never knew they were such skillful bricklayers. I've bought many trucks from Gypsy car dealers in Portland OR and have no complaints. They sort of fascinate me. In a way masons were the first free people. Under feudalism freemasons moved about not tethered to the land like serfs. Also the brickwork would help stabilize the mobile home in a high wind. Some of those steps look like they came from the Taj Mahal.
What a beautiful place to live. Regardless of of whether you are a romany or Irish traveller, It really gets me angry when i see abusive comments on channels like this.
Travellers are indeed usually very nice people, they are no different to anybody else - there is good & bad in every culture. I think that this is a fascinating video that gives a real insight to todays modern travellers. Many have to live on sites now, they don't have a choice.
Thanks for the comment, but they are indeed Gypsies. I've dealt with several residents, often under unfortunate circumstances. May be some IT's too, but most are of Gypsy descent.
