I wondered why NBC brought the show back after cancelling it. I assumed it was because that pinball machine cost so much to build they had to give the show another shot to get a return on their investment. I didn't notice the episodes were repeats. Shows how closely I was paying attention.
No Art James was the only host, right after they cancelled " Marble" , there was a writers strike and the premiere of " THE FUN FACTORY" had to be postponed, so guess what! THEY CONTINUED RERUNS OF THE MAGNIFICENT MARBLE MACHINE for a few weeks!!!
It was a pet project of then NBC VP of Daytime Programming, Lin Bolen, who wanted to update the look of the network's game shows. When she took over that post, she felt the sets looked dated and the hosts attracted older viewers. So she decided to go after younger viewers by going for game shows that had more flashy sets and younger hosts. It would also be the death knell for shows like Jeopardy and Concentration.
The clip showed the new vibrant look in daytime TV.
I thought I remembered seeing a game show where words came across the top of the screen when I was little, except I thought the show was Now You See It.
The main game looks kind of bored there. On one hand it is solid and straight forward with the wordpla format and team aspect. On the other hand, it doesn't really leave much room for strategy other than hoping your opponent misses for a free letter. Art James conducts the game well even though he is a bit dry here by not make an occasional comment; it's okay though. So the main game is okay but I think were all pacing for the big machine round; like the Masters of the Maze main game.
NBC had a policy of taping over shows as tape at the time was expensive. Although they may be found, as they did find Hollywood Squares after much looking.
The show was ahead of its time with all those digital displays, like Double Dare '76 and Family Feud. Some of the sounds in the game were later used in High Rollers and Battlestars.

This was a great show on NBC, when cancelled, it was replaced by a lousy show called " Fun Factory" a real bomb.

There really should be more episodes in existance, considering this lasted 11 months.
