How come videos on youtube always manage to teach things in under ten minutes, while teachers in classes take hours/days/weeks/semesters and seem to make everything harder?
haha thanks you're really fun to watch. I absolutely hate math and have a test tomorrow.. guess it's something you gotta do when you take pre med in college, but I know i'll never need it as a nurse so i'm just gonna study and tough it out. Love how you explain things!
Thank you sooo much!! I failed my first quiz of algebra 2 because I couldn't do interval notation... Now I'll surprise my teacher by using these fancy square brackets and parentheses instead of her silly little { <-- whatever they're called (squiggly brackets)?
You are the most straightforward and easy-to-comprehend math teacher ever! You also remind me of Larry Gopnik from A Serious Man ...which is awesome! Thank you!
this guy is awesome, halfway through i realized i was watching the wrong lesson, but i just kept watching it cuz he's fun to learn from! "shake ur head! shake ur head! i saw u!"
Before I get replies from other people that see this, I want to clarify what I was trying to say to this person. I was saying that there ARE people in the world that actually use math everyday in life - people like doctors, engineers and stuff. I understand that studying advanced mathematics for careers that aren't reliant on mathematics isn't necessary. I understand that. But the point that I was trying to make was that even though their careers aren't reliant on math - it can still be
@peppersock useful because math builds logic. The conversation started when someone asked when they were ever going to use this in life and I replied that there were people that actually do use this everyday. I wasn't trying to be tacky and spam up the page with an argument...I really just wanted to make my point. The whole thing just got out of hand. Sorry.
Wow, yet again ANOTHER reply from YOU!!! I have told you to go away numerous times. GO AWAY CREEPY GIRL!!!! This is the last time that I will say this to you!
Go ahead and reply back with something weird and sexual. Keep making yourself look like an ignorant, undereducated fool.
Jeez, all I was trying to do was make a point about math!
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH INTERVAL NOTATION OHHHHHHHH THE SQUARE ROOT OF A TRINOMIAL OHHHHHH PARABOLAS OHHHHH
go read my comment again. "WE" was referring to people who won't need this for their future careers. AND OBVIOUSLY "THIS IS STUPID" WAS A PERSONAL OPINION. HOW STUPID ARE YOU IF I HAVE TO CLARIFY THAT BY SAYING "in my personal opinion, math is stupid lolz =D!!!"
OF COURSE ITS MY PERSONAL OPINION god you're daft. maybe you need to go do some more math since it "builds logic skills" roffl
I was telling this person how math IS used by people in life....quite often actually. I wasn't saying "oh yea, everyone needs to take math even if they will never use it ever ever again in their whole entire lives." The person said, when will WE ever use this in life and I responded be explaining exactly how it will be used. Again, reread the posts that I wrote and work on your comprehension skills Mr. English Professor.
Liking/disliking math is not why I responded to the other person, YOU brought that up. If you think that it is stupid that you have to take math, go bitch to your math teacher. I will say this one last time…I agree, YOU PROBABLY WON’T NEED THIS
Okay so WE refers to people who won't need this for future careers - I said YOU PROBABLY WON"T NEED THIS. Damn dude!!! Really that dense?
So you can express your personal opinion and I can't?
oh my god...look, i really don't want to have to paraphrase this whole conversation, but it looks like i'm going to have to.
i made a comment to YOU about how people who will not have mathematically-orientated careers will NOT need math and it is STUPID that we are forced to learn things like synthetic division and plotting numbers on number lines when WE will never need it.
then YOU flipped the fuck out and started going on a weird math humper rant.
Look - You have taken this way to far and to an immature level with this whole math masturbation thing. I will say this one last time - I answered a question, I made sure to add that that person probably would not need math. I did this because this person's usage of the word 'we' was vague. I did not say that everyone needed advanced mathematics for their careers. I made sure to say this so that there would be no confusion for people like you who don't need this math. Jeez!
Oh, and you totally didn't take it too far with your profanities. Please. Stop talking about your conversation with that other person because I have nothing to do with it. I don't even know why you keep bringing up what *they* said. It's irrelevant. You flipped out for no reason. I said people who won't be doctors/scientists/whatever won't need math and the fact they need to learn it is stupid, which is true.
@AdrienBrodysNose Who started with the profanities? Who started saying that I masturbated to math? I am trying to make it clear to you how my response was written. It was an answer to a question asking how math is used in life. This is supposed to put the original comment that YOU responded to in perspective for you so that you can see the point that I was trying to make. You think that I was saying that everyone needs math to an advanced level but I wasn't.
Then you tried to argue with me by repeating what I said, basically, and saying "car dealers, etc. use math omg?!?!!!" WELL NO SHIT. I have no idea what you're arguing about because your deductions make absolutely no logical sense. You even whined about my worded and said saying "I personally won't need it" would have been better WHEN THAT'S OBVIOUSLY WHAT I REPEATED A BILLION TIMES OVER WHEN I SAID "PEOPLE WHO WILL NOT HAVE MATHEMATICALLY ORIENTATED CAREERS WONT NEED ADV. MATH"
Okay darling....here's the breakdown. You started by saying that is stupid because I will never use this in my career. I am bringing up the other person because if you read their question and then read my answer to them, you will see that you are arguing with me about something I never said. I never said that people who don't want to be doctors or engineers should have to take math. You started arguing that it is stupid that those people should have to take math.
I AGREED WITH THIS IN MY ORIGINAL POST. I SAID THAT YOU PROBABLY WON'T HAVE TO TAKE THIS SO I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU ARE UP MY BUTT ABOUT IT. ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS SAY THAT EVEN THOUGH YOU WON'T NEED TO GRAPH POLYNOMIALS WHEN YOU ARE AN ENGLISH PROFESSOR IT IS STILL USEFUL BECAUSE MATH BUILDS LOGIC. YOU ARE THE ONE WHO BROUGHT UP THE "WE" WHEN YOU SPOKE FOR THE OTHER PERSON AND SAID THAT HE/SHE WAS REFERRING TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT WILL NEVER USE THIS IN THEIR CAREERS. GO AWAY!
Seriously, that is just crazy. You really need some help. No matter how frustrated I get, I would never stoop to such a level. I understand a heated argument over the usefulness of certain academic classes, but this? Wow.
Your response about me masturbating to math makes me feel like you have ran out of useful things to say. Goodbye.
@AdrienBrodysNose Okay, who is the obnoxious one with all of the math/sex stuff? How many times have I asked you to go away and leave me alone? Seriously, go be immature and weird somewhere else...I am going to politely ask you to stop with the creepy sexual stuff. You are really starting to freak me out. This was supposed to be an intelligent conversation - heated sure - but not weird like this. Very mature...
So you think this is stupid....it's a personal opinion...I realize that... That is why I responded with my personal opinion. Thank you for pointing out that OBVIOUS observation. What difference does it make if it is a personal opinion? I found it ignorant and I responded to it with my own personal opinion. How may I ask am I lacking logic skills just because I answered a question asking how this is used in life?
When did I ever ask a question about how math is used in life? I never did. I said that the fact people who will never need it and are forced to learn it is stupid. I can understand learning basic math, but plotting numbers and dividing polynomials? Really? It's useless for people like me. We're forced to learn it then move on.
You're the one freaking out and saying it builds logic skills, etc., and is therefore not useless. Also, I didn't say *MATH* was stupid. Re-read my comment
OH MY GOSH!!! I NEVER SAID THAT YOU ASKED THAT QUESTION!!! I SAID THAT YOU RESPONDED TO MY RESPONSE TO SOMEONE WHO ASKED THAT QUESTION!! UNDERSTAND PLEASE!!!! I SAID THAT OTHER PEOPLE USE THIS TO BECOME DOCTORS AND ENGINEERS ETC!!! MY COMMENT SAYS THAT YOU PROBABLY WON'T NEED IT. I GET IT OKAY? YOU THINK THAT IT IS STUPID THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE MATH...I SAID THAT IT IS USEFUL BECAUSE IT DOES IN FACT BUILD LOGIC (SRSLY...IT DOES)
It is like art class, you may not paint pretty pictures when you are an English professor so it may seem useless and you may think that it is stupid that you are "forced" to learn it. However, similar to the way math builds logic, art encourages creativity - same idea. This is the point that I am trying to make!
@babyAaBb you, probably not much. Others use this in school to attain higher education levels. People like pharmacists, doctors, engineers, etc.... use this in life. I have heard this question so many times and it just gets old!
If we don't plan on becoming doctors, engineers, or pharmacists...this is all obsolete to us. We're forced to learn it just to forget it because we're never going to use it again once we finish school. It's stupid.
@AdrienBrodysNose Doctors, engineers, or pharmacists are not the only ones who use this dear. Math builds logic - obviously something that you are lacking. Banks use algebra to calculate interest on credit cards, car dealerships on cars, even interest rates on personal checking accounts - please don't try to tell me that you don't plan on using any of these things in your life. Besides, if you were to read my first post carefully, you will see that I agreed with you. YOU probably WON'T need this
@AdrienBrodysNose Secondly, this is not stupid...if you plan on getting anywhere in life then this is absolutely necessary. Business owners, managers, etc will need this. You obviously need some more education - extensive education - if you think that math is completely useless in the job market. "We are FORCED to learn it just to forget it because we are never going to use it." Now that's a laugh.
Whoa, calm down, buddy. I never said math is completely useless. There are many people out there who obviously need it, but apart from people whose careers are mathematically-orientated, not many. Of course businesses and car dealerships will use math. They rely on it for their careers. Now what about people whose careers *don't* rely on it? (and, of course, I'm talking about advanced mathematics, not the basics, because everyone needs the basics to function in life.)
The truth is people such as myself, who are pursuing careers that will never require me to find the zeros of a function, write numbers in interval notation, or plot polynomials on graphs, will never need any of this. Ever.
My passion in life is to teach English at University-level. When do you think I'll ever need advanced mathematics to do that? Once I've got my credentials out of the way and qualify to teach, I'll never need it.
By the way, I'm 19, have my associates of science, and am already working on my bachelor's. I'm pretty sure my educated is "extensive" enough for my age. You seem to be the one that needs a bit more of an extensive education and better logic skills if you think everyone in the job market with need advanced mathematics to function or that there aren't better/other ways to "build logic skills."
All of that is great, really. It is. The first person that I responded to asked the question "when are WE going to use this in life?" You are going to be an English professor. I suggest you work on your reading because your reading comprehension skills are poor. I said that OTHER PEOPLE USE THIS TO ATTAIN HIGHER EDUCATION LEVELS. I also said YOU PROBABLY WON'T NEED THIS. I AM studying to become a doctor and I will use this in my life.
. Math and algebra is used by so many people in their occupations and it IS necessary in the job market. I never said that everyone who enters the job market needs advanced or extensive math skills. I hope you realize what video you are posting on. Interval notation and inequalities… not exactly advanced in my opinion. If you don’t have to take advanced math then great, because this is not advanced. This is fairly basic stuff.
It greatly annoys me when people say things like "this is stupid." No my dear, this is NOT stupid. Did you ever ask your principal or teacher in school why you had to take an art class? Or science? Or chemistry? When are YOU going to use chemistry as an English professor? You will learn about chemistry just to finish the class and forget about it. Just because YOU won’t ever use it in life does that make it stupid?
Not all classes that you are required to take in school is because you are going to need it every day in your career. I hope my point is clearer to you now. You won’t ever need math in your career *clap clap* - a lot of other people use math in life and just because you won’t does not make it stupid OK? I hope you realized how silly your comment was. The world does not revolve around you and YOUR desired career.
Dude, you obviously masturbate to math equations every night. OHHHHHH, POLYNOMIALS! OHHHHHH X TO THE FOURTH POWER, OHHH NUMBER LINES!
I've never met someone so butthurt about someone else not liking math/finding it useless. People without mathematically-orientated careers don't need advanced mathematics; therefore, it's futile for them to be forced to learn it. I'm not the only one out there that will never use it, buddy. Most people don't ever use everything they learn in math.
Like I said before...so you won't learn math and you won't ever need it for your career. I don't care if you don't like math or not, but it is ignorant comments that get on my nerves. You really think I give two shits if YOU like math or not? Again, it is not all about you. I just found the comment "this is stupid" and "WE will never use this in life" to be very ignorant. If someone would have said "I don't like math and I PERSONALLY won't need it" it would have been different
I'm just starting college algebra & my teacher, she's great, I love her jokes and teaching styles, but by God woman, you talk Fast. At the end of the session she reffered to the class to watch youtube videos on what she taught, stating "for extra help" but I'm pretty sure i'm going to be glued to this screen all semester, thanks for the vid, without it, I'm pretty sure I would have flunked my freggin' take home quiz...
