Yeah dude...I was there too. They were great but played a really short set right!!? I think this is it man, since Turbo came out in 85 it makes sense.
Early in 1986 they actually opened for Twisted Sister on the "Come Out and Play" tour. I saw them in Jan. 1986 opening for TS at Radio City Music Hall in NYC.
man jeff pilson could sing back grounds tight. i read an interveiw from Don about him being cast aside socially from the rest of the band part was him not doing the amount of drugs the rest did. he was talking about how when he would try to sleep on the bus he would hear them planning to get rid of him and george wanted jeff to move to lead vocals......glad that didnt happen, but still an interesting thought
This was before Aerosmtih. I remember because that was the second concert I had ever seen. The first was... dare I say... Europe "Final Countdown." They were doing the Back for the Attack tour with Aerosmith.
This could be opening for Judas or Aerosmith, they toured with both that year. I saw the Aerosmith show and Dokken definitely opened. it was Dec 5 (I think) of 86. Dec 86 for sure.
Assholes like that don't appreciate good music. They most likely listen to Grunge, Emo, Nu-Metal, or the BackStreet Boys. It's too bad that people don't dress and look cool like that anymore. They look like a bunch of slobs with their baggy pants, messy hair (or shaved heads), and goat-herder beards...
So the visual Dokken image is up for debate in the '80's.... most important thing was the effin' music these guys put their blood, sweat and tears into. It's survived the time and is some of the best stuff to ever come out of this era. Call it what you want, but Dokken is the best melodic rock band on the planet.
Glam, Hair band, whatever the bullcrap name is....Dokken kicks ass and so do most of all the 80's bands...more talent than any of these alternative or grunge punks ever thought about.....these guys don't even know what the hell a guitar solo is besides two notes maybe or a couple of extra chord riffs.
Kills me to hear the innovators of the 80's get slammed by Lil lost Emo's.Metal bands passed the torch to a sad group of kids, who are basically following the path of Kurt Kobain.Lock n load kiddies!
If the rift between don and george was over image, how come lynch mob turned out the way it did.. as in clearly image concious and very similar formulaic song structure of the 80' and early 90's. George has been interviewed and publicly admitted that he has been dissapointed with the way lynch mob turned out and wanted to revert back to the famialir dokken style. its on you tube somewhere
Don Dokken wasn't a poser? Dude, where you even alive in the 80s?
I was, and let me clarify you uninformed opinions.
George and Don fought constantly over the bands inage and sound. George didnt care about image and wanted a heavier, more raw sound for the band. Don on the other hand was too interested in the image and making commercially acceptable music.
I remember one year between two of their albums where Don's hair went from above his shoulders to nearly his waist in months. We used to laugh about his "extensions" all the time.
Yeah, the glam thing was gay but don't put that shit on Don. Both George and Don thought they looked like clowns (Which they did) it was the record company who forced the issue. Just jam the music its all good.
ok, so it was glam big deal. they still rocked. Look at poison, motley, ratt etc... even tho it was makeup and big hair, that was the fashion. these bands made it big. mostly chicks were into this. u get that, u get the guys to buy the albums. that equals big business. see what i mean?
don wasn't a poser... and the "credibility" is only in the eyes of the beholder. All these 80's bands had a similar schtick. Lynch has definately got the recognition he deserves. I dont think you really know what you're talking about
If I'm correct, here Gerge still using the Marshall head used for the album Unde Lock And Key and it's the same amp head used by Slash on Appetite For Destruction. Slash on Nightrain used a Jackon and not his Les Paul :) Good vibe from George here ;)
Don was totally selling out-ya know the Bon Jovi thing at the time. Great band tho' -smooth vocals w/ Lynch's gtr!!! -Saw this tour it was pretty damn loud.
Dude, the singer's outfit is ridiculous, and George looks a bit flashy too...no wonder George hated Don so bad for pushing the glam look onto the band. Dokken and Ratt were/are kick-ass players and songwriters, but their image was HORRIBLE. IMO it looked goofy back then and it looks even worse today.
I was there!

LMAO - we were all wearing that shit back then... Permed hair, bright colors, white boots, bits of stuff tied on & hanging down everywhere.

Who gives a shit about hair extentions,it's about the music and talent, not the look!

Care for you, you know that I always will
I know it's hard for you, my taste for the kill
But then it calls to me when the moon rises full in the sky
You know it's not denied
Will I ever find love and peace of mind
On these streets again, will it ever end

As with MANY talented 80s bands...the lead singer killed the bands credibility by pushing the "glam" thing
White Lion, Dokken, and others had there musical credibility ruined by "poser" vocalists.
Too bad, these guys were amazing musicians that never got the recognition they deserved
shadowdragon665 4 years ago
