  • What about a knife? A saw? Paracord in stead of rope? Use your brain. If u use that kit u will die!!!

  • use string to tie what together, you dont have a knife or saw to cut anything to tie together. I hate expert village

  • Comment removed

  • This kid has good intentions but really needs to look at other sources to really make a decent survival kit. The sticks should be dumped and get dryer lint with petroleum jelly, and I strongly agree you need a knife, a good Swiss army of some sort. Also forgot water purification tabs and water container, signal mirror.

  • Dont Watch this channels vids. go to some other real outdoor survival channel.

  • worst video ever im sorry

i and probably everyone else could top this

  • This isn't a survival kit man, all the items shown in this video are indeed very useful and necessary. But as basic equipment, because they're so big and bulky. In a survival kit you get all these same things (and more), but then in a much smaller size. By the way: you can waterproof your lighter as well of course. And what's up with the plastic bag holding everything? It'll be ripped and shredded in no time with that tinder and compass in there.

  • missing a knife what an idiot

  • OMG this is ExpertVillage!! LOL. Village idiots more like!

  • Kid needs to learn the difference between tinder an kindling.

  • This kid is missing a few important things in his kit.

  • Both fire starting apparatus in the same bag and same location?, what happens when you lose the bag, which can happen. That "string" would be absolutely usesless. if your going to opt for the extra weight to carry cordage, you should carry something that is actually going to be durable enough to use in a rugged, survival situation. Paracord is the way to go. Your "tinder" is not tender. It's kindling..the second step in fire prep. Cotton balls soaked in vasoline are the best lightweight tinder

  • U should stick to selling cookies like a normal girl scout

  • things you should have instead. bowie knife, swiss army knife, magnesium fire starter, cotton balls or other highly flammable tinder, ziploc bags, extra food and water, 550 cord, tarp, extra pair of clothes, first aid kit, and some common sense which you don't have.

  • some cotton or tindel, or just get magnesium stick... a good knife??? fishing hook, snare wire... just to mutch to mention...

  • You have no idea, seriously, stay at home.

  • Are you a boy scout!!!

  • @TheDuck571 no, his at girl scout

  • ??? realy? flint doesn't work when it's wet... tel that to me and my buddy who almost burned the woods down... with wet flint...

  • @expervillage

The people you have doing videos on survival are not experts at all. the bad information they give will get someone hurt or killed, so AGAIN I ask you to remove ALL videos about survival by this people,

    Before someone gets hurt

  • you could put the lighter in the water prof bag dumb ass

  • You should carry a Swiss army knife with a first aid kit if your staying on mountain but he did ok I guess

  • This guy dose not know to much does he

  • a compass should be beside your hip and you need a knife in your survival kit

  • Hi, I was wondering, I've been making spoons and pipes and stuff out of wood...is it dangerous at all to harvest wood that you dont know if its toxic or not..is there a way to tell if it is?

  • Good basics...but I really wanted to hear that whistle. Now that you've watch the serious approach, try my comedic; "Survival Guide for the Clueless". You need a mind break about now :)

  • my kit(altoids tin) has waterproofed matches, a b-day cnadle, 10 feet of fishing line, 5 feet of nylon string, small keychain flash light, a small kershaw knife, a swiss army classic and some basic first aid(butterflie bandaids bandaids neo sporin and some advil) and usually out in the bush i carry my 22 rifle and my bear grylls ultimate survival knife or my buck 119 and a flash light.

  • sorry but i think thats prity perfetik

  • sticks... really

  • oh boy....that stinks

  • dude u need a knie, you are pretty much screwed if you dont have at least a knife. i would rather have 1 knife than all that crap you have in that bag

  • how about a gun? i think this kid is retarted

  • Good presentation. A good basic kit that is a size that a person would actually carry. Concerning a knife, you should have that in your pocket already. And if you are in the field then you should have your knife attached with a tie down cord to your belt or beltloop.

  • Piezo Butane lighters will work after being soaked in water.

    Far from "useless"

    Get the right lighter.

  • weres the swiss army knife and/or the fishing hooks and line

  • Just a comment, you don't need to carry dry wood for fire it can puncture the bag and everything may get wet, maybe some cotton with petroleum gel, its little and works great, a better idea is to put your lighter inside of the water prof container, get yourself a good knife. There are actually plenty more to add but the space is little so I'll jut leave at that.

  • i wouldent go to the wild with that or end up in the wild with that :P

  • three epic fails in one vid means help. Three more means I don't have a clue.

  • expert village? how a about beginnervillage?

  • omg! nice vid! now i know how to use a whistle!

  • nice viid. i have the same match holder and what i did for the sriker for it i hot glued a short stick to the back of the striker so you have a strengthened striker and its easer to hold

  • pft who needs a knife. i know im a ninja and can split wood with my hands ...nooobs

  • "You need some funions and some beef jerky and some pizza and water man, water and a cushion------ berries!!!!!! that would be awesome too"- Ya, your high!!!!!!!

  • Dude how can u not have a knife in ur kit especially a first aid kit and get a paracord to like seriously

  • Why is it all in that flimsy cheesy ziplock bag? And why no knife? Why no first aid kit? Why not a canteen? Why not a food ration? Why does expert village put douchebag looking people up that do crappy videos?

  • Thats kindling

    Flint works when its wet

Now i know how to use a whistle!

  • no knive worst kit ever

  • you also should have a good knife or knives, a small hand saw, a hand gun, water filter or tablets, a flint & striker may be a good fire starting option as well, also cotton balls soaked in vasaline is excellent for tinder and water/wind proof, last but not least a decent little tent lol..

  • did that guy just tell me how to use a whistle..? These survival tips are good for a day in a forest or something. Though you definitely need a Knife. a compass is good, though a flashlight is useless unless its solar powered. the most important thing you need is clothing. without the proper clothing gear you 're screwed.

  • @comepost hahahaha

  • maybe "survival experts" means meth head..

  • or put the lighter in the waterproof box

  • lol looks like this kids mommy gave him five $ and took him to wal mart hahahahahahahahahaahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this guys no survival expert. a boy scout, maybe!

  • @winniepegdiver yes but wouldn't it just be easier to bring a knife

  • Would the lighter not cut the string?

Why yes I do Believe it will cut the string

That said you should have a good knife

  • I'm not a hippie, but when I go hiking/camping I like to have as little of modern stuff as possible. Try to get away from the world if only for a night. Just a knife, some flint or matches, and maybe a tent or just a sleeping bag. Good stuff XD Make traps for food

  • @Axion3812 What about water? What about means for purifying water? Seems like your little kit lacks that.

  • @SurvivalStuff Oh, I forgot to mention I had Bear Grylls or Les Stroud with me ;)

  • So tell me mr expert, how are you going to cut the string?

  • K. Every time you go hiking and get lots you always have to be prepared to stay out over night. And there are TEN main things you need. Water Compass Light + Batteries Matches KNIFE or hatchet (any smart person can survive with just a hatchet) Food (Even if its just a day trip) Toque (always bring a toque no matter what) Whistle Tarps/ table clothes/massive garbage bags + plastic bags Kindling And it all fits in a back pack nicely.
  • A lighter is way better than matches! You can run out of matches... you can also run out of gas on the lighter, but you still have the device that makes sparks! You can start a fire just with that!!!

  • This is stupid. Why carry so many twigs if you can just carry cotton balls?

  • Pretty well not pretty good.

  • i highly recommend a knife if you want to live i think its more improtnat that a wistle

  • Lol what are you gonna put in there next a toothbrush?

  • Hey Youngster, your survival kit you are trying to teach the world about is lacking in so many ways. So lets go through it step by step. First your tinder is just some small twigs and yes it is tinder but not at all the best for a survival kit, We produce a product called Bio-fire and in the space your tinder takes up you can place 15 of our Bio-fire tinder's. Next you have no Survival tool or knife in your kit, and a head lamp is not that necessary unless your afraid of the dark.

  • this guy could do with watching some ray mears' programes

  • thats not fkin tinder those are twigs those wont light easily...what you need is dry grass, or woods shavings xD

  • didnt put to much effort into this did you

  • add a knife, and better rope, then this will me a decent minimal kit

  • no knife? funny survivor.

  • ha, this guy is a moron, not a survival expert at all. he forgot the two MOST IMPORTANT things, a knife and a flint. dumbass

  • I'm not convinced that this guy knows how to survive in the wilderness. It says hes just a hiker, anyways...w/e.

  • you should have a compass in every survival kit mine workes good i picked it up WTF HOW DOSE PICKING UP A COMPASS SHOW ITS GOOD

  • @50cliber dose.... fail

  • @ifoolin fuck you

  • @50cliber and what is 50cliber anyway

  • @ifoolin its wat ma lil bro said wen a asked him to say 50caliber so i thought it was funny

  • oh i see, haha

  • no knife? seriously? wow...you need a knife in ANY survival kit. and you can water proof matches yourself. just melt some wax and put the tip in the wax let it dry and its water proof. i tested it myself. but seriously this video kinda sucks

  • let me know when you find an Expert Village video that dont suck.

  • @repticman123 knives aren't pc anymore

  • @repticman123 Actaully if you good you can take a rock and split at an angle and its razor sharp.

  • It's TINDER!!!!! NOT TENDER!!!!!

  • he has a very feminine voice

  • u could put the lighter in the waterprrooof tub dumbass...

  • pussy you dont need to cover ur ears

  • That is a pealess survival whistle, covering your ears is a good idea. I have a Fox40 Micro and they are 140dbs loud, that whistle is about the same. Equivalent to a jet taking off.

  • bad tinder to big and all you know and wtf !! no knive all survival kits need at least a small razor!!

  • lol! dude, you really should have a knife.

whistles are useless, no matter how dense the forest, you know how to survive you're going to WANT to find your own way out. a real hiker/camper who knows alot wouldnt wanna be found, hed love the option.

get more education btw, you really should pack food and water. ALOT of food and water, not to mention a few extra lighters and ziplocs, u never know when you find stuff u gotta water proof.

and green tinder isnt good btw, idiot. it dont burn well.

  • I would feel more confident if the teacher wasn't prepubescent.

  • why dont u just put the lighter in the waterproof container?

  • i think i cant do a bttr job on this subject...hes missing many items

  • *can

  • i want him to blow that whistle in a small confined room and go deaf for wasting my time.

  • no knife? seriously are you trying to kill us?

  • electronic ignition lighters still work wet unless totally saturated

  • I prefer using a firesteel, you can pick them up for about £5 and they still work if they get wet

  • Use cotton balls as tinder. They are light and compressible.

  • Cotton balls soaked in Petroleum Jelly (vaseline)

  • whats that used for?

  • Cotton Balls burn well but too fast! If you soak it in Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) They will burns slower. You don't want to soak them up too much though, just enough so that you can still fluff them up a bit. Hope it helps!

  • I commend this young man for putting a video like this together. I would add a knife, a signal mirror and a garbage bag you can use to stay dry.

  • The WetFire tender might be better that putting sticks in your kit.

  • you forgot to pack ur tampons.

  • you start flying with winds at 200mph... anyway why not put the lighter in the waterproof case man?

  • and a lightwer would not work with winds up too 200 mph

  • if 2012 were to happen a compass would not work cause the plates would shift

  • it wont....

  • If you're talking pole-shift, it would just switch north and south

  • if you know the general direction you came from you can use a compass. and as well if you want to go straight in a specific direction you can follow it so if you made camp went to bed got back up the next morning youd know which way you went. and a folding saw no get a wire saw.

  • hey fellow survivalists, i am currently uploading my survival series. please check out my profile and remember to subscribe!!

  • you dont need a compace you can find your direction with your watch you shound het some cord instead of dry tinder and flint striker instead of light or matches and you should have a knife

  • i agree with you

  • u shuld have snare wire or some wire to make traps for food and aways have a knive

  • Comment removed

  • sorry dude this kit is a joke ,,, i gave advise on a kit ,,, for survival and rescue,,, give this kit some rethought ,, start with a shiny metal box it alone can refleck a life saving sign as well as hold every thing you need , a pill bottle with either hand sanitizer or vasiline , are great fire starters , wax dip your matches to keep them dry etc etc ,,, you should really give this some though ,,, the advice you give could kill some body

  • who needs that stuff? you can build a whistle out of natural things in like 3 seconds, to navigate you use the sun, fire is a little bit more difficult but you can master it if you practice, a knife like thing can be made out of stones...that's survival, not this

  • Build a effective whistle that can be heard for over a mile in three seconds? I don't think so. In a emergency, it's better to have a small kit and basic survival knowledge than some hard to master obscure skills. What you speak of is good for bushcraft, not good for practical survival. I honestly think your claims are ridiculous and potentially dangerious.

  • in an emergency survival situation you might not have a whistle with you. so it is good to know how to build a whistle out of natural things. where's the harm in that?

  • No harm, but you shouldn't rely on just that skill that may not work. Carrying a whistle on your keychain or survival kit is easy, and frankely hard to loose. It's pay off is potentially life saving.

  • Of course. but i think that people shouldn't rely on their survival kit too much either. because you can lose it and if that happens your screwed.

  • "this is how you blow this whistle". funny...

  • it seems like its more a "get rescued soon" kit instead of a survival kit

  • I hope this guy gets caught in the wilderness. SCREWED. That's all I'm saying.

  • ...... fail.... just fail

    you dont need string..

    or a "headlight or flashlight".

you do need a LED signel light...

ROPE would be nice to have but is not needed

  • I was hiking in Wisons Pron (Australia) and string was the only thing that kept our food safe.

the possums were so rampat the only thing stopping them from eating our food was to tie a string between two trees and hang our food inside a plastic bag on it.

but i DO admit its more of a "Get rescued soon" kit

  • These "14yo kid" vids are a good way to teach the kid : 1) Creativity...how would you prepare for the unexpected? What would you take if it only fit in an Altoid box? Demonstrate your planning logic. 2)Public speaking and the ability to communicate your ideas to others...skills very useful in a career later on. So, the skills learned here do come in handy later in life, just maybe not in the woods..!!! I have spent time out there, an Altoid box just doesn't begin to cover your needs!!

  • why is there a zillion 14 year old kids on you tube giving survival advice! lol

  • it wasn't a insult it was just a opinion anyways.

  • EclipticFitness1 you basically said you can use roots. Roots are almost the same as rope or string. So would you rather use rope or string?

  • You don't need string to survive, its not essential. In reality you can survive with nothing. As for the string comment, roots work just as good and you can use to tie things up. As for the tinder if you can get a fire going wet wood will burn. It just takes a good fire. The people who rip this guy probably have no idea what there talking about. But thats what Youtube is, no one helps anyone by offering some advice they just rip everyone up.

  • So, EclipticFitness1, who certified you as a survival instructor, and what is the name of your school? Can we assume that as the owner of a survival teaching business that you advise all of your students to make a personal survival kit out of the following six things: (1) dry sticks , (2) headlamp or flashlight, (3) compass, (4) whistle, (5) lighter or matches, (6) and string ? Is that what you teach at your survival business, really? Really?

  • Wow, the kid makes a simple survival kit video and people just can't wait to criticize.

This is a very basic kit for a hiker who gets lost or something. He's not trying to teach you how to be Grizzly Adams.

  • I am a certified survival instructor, i also have my own business teaching survival and this video wasnt bad. yes there are a few things that could be added. but its personal preference. and the guys like 14 leave him alone. Good work kid keep learning

  • rope or string is not optional you need it to survive

  • Umm...I must have missed it, but what do you cut the string with or split the wet wood with to get at the dry inner wood to burn after your tinder is all used up? It's like this video is pointedly anti-knife, semi-anti-fire, anti-fishing, anti-sterile water, anti-paper, and generally anti-survival. The only safety precaution was cover your ears when blowing a whistle? How about cover your brain with a hat? How about cover your torso from wind and rain with extra clothes?

  • LOL! I was going to say things , but you said them for me. Thank you! By the way....where is the firearm, extra clips, food and para-cord?

  • I feel that. 2A all the way.

  • How about carry some water tabs to sterilize your water or bring an extra battery for your cell phone, since you might need it to call for help? How about carry a GPS receiver and learn how to use it, or use the GPS in your cell phone? How about don't carry sticks in a ziplock bag, because the sticks WILL puncture the bag and ruin a pretty good water container, possibly the only one you have left.

  • k leave the guy alone, you probably dont know anything about survival do you, his video was actual superb, every thing in his kit is somthing to help keep you alive, the tinder isnt to make a huge fire, its to start a 3 min fire if u need it right away, and how do i know, hmm, im in cadets qualified survival expert.

  • You lost me at "cadet qualified survival expert." Cadette...How impressive! You're going have to do better than that. You can't even lie convincingly.

  • im not lieing , i am a cadet in the 52 squadron city of calgary air cadets.

  • The lie wasn't the cadette part. I believe that part, sad to say. The survival expert was the "lieing" part. Are there any grownups who think this is a good video?

  • by the way its not spelled cadette its spelled CADET learn to fucking spell!

  • Oops. Sorry cadette. Cadette qualified survival experts, like your majesty, should be more tolerant of us mere ignorantamouses.

  • oh thats how you use a whistle. ive been doing it wrong all this time.

  • Oh my god! I just want to give this kid a giant survival wedgie!

  • why dont you just put the lighter in the waterproof container with the matches?

  • Great video!

  • Ah, another giant turd by expertvillage.

I carry string in case I need to make

an emergency cock ring. You just never

    know.

  • And yeah you definitely need comdoms like yathatisgood said, in case you want to make ballouns, and it is easier to drink your own pee like that, also you could use any kind of bag but comdoms taste much more better ! Have fun.

  • there is waterproof matches on the market for those who didn't know

  • that is the most minimal survival kit i have ever seen. absolute minimums are: knife! flint fire steel! tampon condoms for storing upto a litre of water. whistle polished surface compass poncho. these items will cover fire shelter water signaling direction
  • hav you ever tried to stor water in a condom? try it some time, i bet you will take it off you list.

  • good vid

  • i dont have anything good to say.....

  • Why not put the lighter in the water tight container if you're worries about it getting wet. It'll last much longer than 20 matches.

  • wait... That's not even tinder its kindling, right?

  • Comment removed

  • come on, give the guy some credit, he's only trying to help with this video, id like to see some of your guy's videos, at least he's making them!!

  • WTF man LOL!

  • no hes not just having a go,its called expertvillage.and if people believe this guy is an expert they will surely die in the wilderness.if he was just having a go it would be called novice village.

  • Good point. I think that responsibility lies with those at expert village who compile the videos. My point is that the kid himself does not deserve vicious personal attacks like those posted by jebis03. We have the opportunity here to steer him in the right direction, and this CAN and SHOULD be done without abuse and ridicule. I know perfectly well that the information is generally bogus, I'm simply encouraging people to be constructive rather than crushing and vulgar.

  • listen to him and youll end up pushin up daisies.

  • this guy is a fuckin idiot...

  • this guy is rediculous... i dont think that he could survive his way out of a wet paper bag, let alone bein in the woods

  • no knife no rain garbagebag no survival blanket dude if u go out there ur dead...

  • he doesnt seem very confident...
