I love playing with magic squares. One of my favorites is actually not a square at all. It's Ben Franklin's magic circle! Though, he did make some interesting magic squares as well.
@Tridecalogism Teacher don't let you use wikipdia for papers and research because wikipedia itself is not a source, but a collection of information from other sources. Also wikipedia can be changed under certain circumstances by people who might not know what they are talking about. IT's a bit flimsy at the moment. But, it's good for some afternoon reading on a topic you don't know about.
1) right to left: 1, 2, 3,4 where the middle of the series is at the top of the square and the ends are on the bottom.
2) left to right:, 5,6,7,8, where the 6 and 7 are shifted down and the 5 & 8 are on the same row. 9, 10, 11, 12 work the same except 10 and 11 are shifted up and 9 and 12 are on the same row.
3) right to left: 13, 14, 15, 16 where 13 and 16 are on the top row and 14 and 15 are on the bottom.
The four corner squares and the four centre squares both add up to 34. The four opposite squares both vertically and horizontally add up to 34. Both sets of symmetrically placed squares (3 5 12 14) and (2 8 9 15) add up to 34. Each corner group of four squares (like 16 3 10 5) adds up to 34.
This guy is bordering on numerology = bs. Even educated people have their lapses into the nonsensical and the human idea of finding patterns and confirmation bias lol
do the other planets saturn is 3×3 jupiter 4×4 5×5 mars 6×6 the sun which adds to 666 total 111 on the suns diagonal, horizontal and vertical. What Im curios about is do the squares have any relation to the planets ratio of diameter or distance from the sun or radius or circumference
if you add the numbers individually eg top line 1+6+3+2+1+3 = 16 then add 1+6 = 7. Second line 5+1+0+1+1+8 = 16 ... 1+6 = 7. Third line 9+6+7+1+2 = 25 .. 2+5 = 7. It seems that all individual numbers equal 7. Even the 34 - 3+4 = 7
If you take the total number of squares (16) plus the hole thing is a square +(1) that is a total of 17 squares overal. 17 Times 2 is your majic 34. Its odd that the overal square shape has to be used to come up with the half of 34 (17) because it has no number representation.
Another interesting part about this magic square is that if you add four numbers in any pattern that is evenly proportional to the rest of the square the result is always 34. For example if we make a square of 4 numbers in the middle the result is 34. If we divide the square in even sub squares the result of each of them is 34. And also if we add all the numbers the result is 136. What those numbers represent, and how they came up with them??
Also interesting to note, the picture was made at the same that the mathematician Luca Pacioli (1446-1517) lived. And he wrote a book about the golden ration (aka phi) called the "De divina proportione". In the book he mentions the importance of the equilateral square, the perfection of the circle and regular bodies, which seem to be represented in the picture. It's intriguing that we found the quantum ratio in this. I must say that the probability of this being a coincidence are dropping.
I had a brief episode of making magic squares after seeing this painting in The Golden Ratio, so I'm glad someone else is fascinated by these mathematical puzzles.
A bit more number trivia: the numbers in the center, the four numbers in each of the four corners and the four corners themselves also add up to 34.
I really doubt that, the picture in question was created in 1514, that would be a good four hundred years before quantum mechanics. It predates even out understanding of the structure of the atom. So I'm sure it's just purely a happy coincidence.
Well it is probably a coincidence but maybe the painter arrived at that number differently, like thought mathematics? Just a big if to think about.....

PART 3
THIS GETS REAL GOOD!!!
PAST and PRESENT collide in an big AHA!!
So how does 'When I am 64?' collide with the FINE STRUCTURE Constant 137?
The ancients using NAKED EYE observations assigned the number 36 to the SUN and 28 to the MOON.
Remember those numbers to be used as ratios, based on these simple number relationships i.e. 36 + 28 = 64 OR 37 + 27 = 64
37/27=1.37 x 100 = 137
But the SUN 36 divided by the MOON 28 x 100 = 128.5!!!
Is 37 the number of the "collective unconscious"?
