How times change. When these were out & about, I never cared for 'em much. Too small in a sea of 6 litre + V8's . But it did & does look cool. I would like to drive one to see what there all about.

I'm 6'6" and I had plenty of room in my '71 Opel GT.. Those headlights however, did not perform like in this commercial. With all my might, I was able to pull the lever to engage them. From then on, they were always up!!! I LOVED MY OPEL GT!!! I MISS IT DEARLY!!!

hee. i always thought the small size was over dramitized in this commercial 4 theatrical purposes.

my opel GT like this one has plenty of room to get in.

i think they look better with no bumpers on the back also for a more corvette look.

opel gt, #1 volkswagon and chevette. best cars ever made even with the material problems such as steel GT body thats rust prone. and clips etc on the chevette that are broke prone. the VW has noise probs, but thats about it.

still best cars ever.

I own a 72 Opel GT and have had it for about 10 years. I'm 6'3" tall. They have the seat moved forward quite a bit in this commercial. This car has ample leg and headroom for me. So much, in fact, that I have the seat slid forward two notches. I will say, however, that getting in and out of this car DOES require effort, as it is so low to the ground.

I don't get it. This commercial seems like it was intended to convince people to not buy the Opel GT. What's up with that? Anyway it's a great car with tons of character. At one time, I had six Opel GTs, one from each year they were built. I sold five of them when I decided to go to college. The other one was stolen and never recovered. That was a real bummer. I didn't have insurance on that car because it wasn't licensed at that time.

By the way, my uncle drove a GT in the 1970's, and I remember it as a very cool and fast car - but inside very small. So the tv spot is quite right about that. Fortunately, neither my uncle not me were too fat than...today is another thing;-)

I thought GTs were made/imported from 1968 to 1972. That would make only 5 model years. Which year am I missing? Myself, I had a 1970 stock which totally ROCKED! The only thing small about the car that I remember is the room around the engine under the hood. You needed small hand or a lot of patience to work on them. I am six foot tall and not skinny and had no trouble getting in or out of the car and moving around quite freely once inside. I'd love to have another to play with!

Nah, actually the vette was just an overprice, oversized and poorer handling version of the GT. Considering that it's (The GT) design was on the slates before Delorean used it for the Vette.

Mustve been damn nice to have owned either one. Always loved the sting ray vettes, good handling for the time and a beast of an engine under the hood. Have a funy respect for the opel gt, not the fastest car- but very interesting cars. Manual flip up lights? win
