  • lot of shite that film bruges not any were worthy of this great song rip luke

  • @TheBhoycey Bullshit. This song was perfectly matched for In Bruges, and the scene it was used for. Brilliant song, brilliant film.

  • luke's banjo playin in this makes me cry.

  • "let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day."

"her own dark hair like clouds over the fields of May."

unbelievable. a vision of a truer world.

  • if you were watching "In Bruges," and you started weeping the moment you heard this song, please give a thumbs up...

  • Never has any other singer sang a song from the heart to the heart as much as The Legend. Luke Kelly

  • i love the sound of the banjo in this song,it sounds like water rippling

  • an amazing song for an amazing film!

  • Sparing the hitman would have been a much worse fate for him, for when you are as sensitive as he was, the guilt alone of what he did would be punishement enough

  • @jeffhardy0963 he would have killed himself anyways, and sparred ken, harry and jimmy the midget's lives in the process had he been outside bruges at the end. damn those canadians that killed john lennon and the vietnamese!!!

  • saw in bruges wen i was 11 its amazing

  • its a great tune but not the one that turned me onto the tune. mmm strange but true.

i will upload the version that turned me on sometime in the near eternity. i havent got a clue who dunnit ......yit

  • Bill Craigs version is even better, but few people know it.

  • You cannot beat luke kelly are you mad!?

  • Look I'm not saying that Luke isn't the greatest. In my opinion Bill's deep booming voice suits the song better. His version is here on YouTube now try it out. No offence to you or Kelly (May he rest in peace).

  • Sorry, cannot find it ! where is it ?

  • Yeah noticed that too. It's not there anymore.

A real shame, it was amazing and I don't think it could be found anywhere else:(

  • in bruges is a awsome movie

  • i love the dubliners i love my county Dublin!

  • no one sang it better than Luke Kelly, fantastic song, brilliant singer.

  • r i p luke kelly

  • The first time I heard this was on a CD by an Aussie Scotish band. They played it a bit faster tho. I think I like this version a bit more.

  • First heard this 'in bruges' and it was beautifully used in that film.

  • I also highly agree

  • here here

  • Its brilliantly used in that film its simply beautiful Ive loved this song since I was ten I knew all the words then and Im 26 now any time the family gather the old man plats the mandolin and give it a belt great tune tears in the eyes stuff xxxx

  • Just readin your comment makes me wanna cry! Haha!

  • my da taught it to me when i was 9 im 19 now and it my party piece too :)

  • Heard it b4 then but the use of that in the movie really did make the hairs stand up on the back of the head. it was brilliant

  • completly agree every tym i say tht 2 people they look at me gone out nice 2 c sum1 finks the same

  • Same and I agree

  • me too made the song a bit better i think

dont know how it just worked

  • indeed

  • great song, heard it before in bruges but its good to hear it there.

  • Epic rendition.

  • Patrick Kavanagh's words, Luke Kellys voice and passion, how much more do you need. !!!

  • And to be honest i couldnt give a shit as long as theres peace .

To many lives have been lost to these Troubles

    It stops now

    Nationalism is the way forward

  • Northside Dublin has seen its gangland violence but I live there and there is no better place Its Dublin at its best ,, the atmosphere

This isn't our fau,lt recession has crime on the uprise is all

One we are out all will be good i am sure

    As for IRA returning ?

I think its just some wannabees trying to start the troubles up UK dontgive a shit about Northern Ireland at all

  • brilliant song used nicely in the superb film" in bruges"

  • You have no accent? That's amazing. I'm irish and you can be sure that every irish person has an accent and if you asked someone from a different country they would agree.

  • Fuck it lads .. ther is no orange only green and white

    Tiocfaidh ar la

  • everyone is entitled to their opinion, but i would like to know why u think this is crap?

  • I was on Raglan Road in Dublin last night.

  • what was it like?

  • It's very quiet. I imagine it's much the same as it was when this poem was written.

  • nice, i can imagine, what's on it? is it pedestrian-ised with shops and cafe's etc. or are there mainly houses?

  • It's a residential road with great big old houses and trees along the sidewalks. There are no shops or cafes there. The houses there aren't cheap. A few of them are foreign embassies actually.

  • Sounds beauiful, I'm glad it's like that and not full of people, makes it queter like the song, thanks for that! :), do you live in Ireland?

  • i loved in bruges and i love this song

  • Personnally I find the banjo haunting and powerful (though perhaps more so in versions other than this one).

  • Before I die I'm going to listen to this song at dawn on the western Irish coast with fog covering the whole visible area.

  • Loved In Bruges and this song worked so well with it

  • there is banjo music in the one in in bruges (i love that movie!!) but i think it's been really toned down and you have to listen really carefully, but it's in the background

  • I love the irish accent...much better than mine. Mint song

  • Well it's hard to compare The Dubliners and Van Morisson in general, but on the album Irish Heartbeat when he joins forces with The Chiefains a new level of awesome-ness is reached! I think it's partly Van's amazing voice... So powerful! Not sure what Dubliners album it's on sorry.

  • this was such a powerful song in In Bruges

  • I totally agree, and it was a powerful scene as well. I was so touched by In Bruges, don´t know why. Watched it yesterday, and I loved it. Merry christmas everyone!

  • Oh didnt read that right. Ill take dubliners over van morrison any day. Theyre great thought too. What album is this song on? Is it the in bruges soundtrack? Id rather just get a dubliners album with it on there.

  • it could only be the irish to perform such a brillliant song!!

  • I agree. Great band, nothing quite like them. The irish and their music are great. I'm canadian but there's nothing like irish music. The best.

  • Awesome song, absolutely beautiful, but I have to say I prefer the version by Van Morrison and the Chieftains...

  • ya, the song was perfect for the scene where brendan gleeson jumps off the bell tower. It just fit so well

  • sung from the heart - this version would bring a tear to a glass eye

  • what a song

    THE BEST!!!

  • In Bruges was a good movie. love this song

  • wish i could buy this song on itunes - without having to buy the album

  • deadly song

  • It was so awesome that they used this during In Bruges(my favorite film of 2008 so far BTW).

  • mine too!

beautiful music, and one of the best movies I have yet seen

    5/5

  • The song that made the movie, although it did not need much help. Awesome film.

  • yaya tat was good loved tatwhole scene

  • Luke Kelly's voice is sheer fucking dynamite. If you're unmoved by this tune, you should check your pulse, you might already be dead

  • Wow, always loved The Dubliners... Just saw the Movie "In Bruge" this song was in'it..

  • I watched this wonderful movie last night and fell in love with this beautiful, haunting song!

  • bloody brilliant

  • Good job Luke Kelly!

  • im only 13 bt thats a unreal song my grandad knew luke kelly

  • Very nice!

But check the version of Loreena McKinneth.

  • If I ever get back to Dublin I,ll go to Ballybough and stand on the bridge named for Luke and remember the last time i saw him. It was on O'Connell Bridge and he was giving money to an itinerent boy, a great man

  • What can i say. Brilliant........

A lost treasure this man is.

  • Class

  • Luke does the definitive version of this classic

  • Never heard this one before, but it's good.
