Saw this at the theater when I was 11. Appreciated it much more in my twenties, especially the car salesman. I thought I was gonna go apaplectic with laughter. Still gets me.
Spencer Quinn used to perform at a beer bar called "The Pawn Shop," on Sunset near Vine in Hollywood. Saw him there several times in 1968. He was great! This video is his impression of Ralph Williams, an actual car dealer in the San Fernando Valley who advertised on TV. The impression is spot on. Sure miss the old Pawn Shop, and Spencer Quinn.
Spencer Quinn was a great banjo player (albums, etc). He was also a comedy writer and performer for the first Smothers Brothers summer show. He also was a location manager for movies (like Peter Sellers film 'Being There.'). He passed away in the mid-80s.
1:30-4:25, that car commercial is a kicker! "If anything goes wrong in the first 5 miles or two minutes, whichever comes first ..." What did he say about the whoopee cushions?
Course the car wash ... That duck! ...
I loved watching this as a kid. Thanks for posting and bringing back great memories!
Good Kurt Russell narration in this film. Man, look at how undamaged the cabs were in those front-enders. Put airbags in a 55 Buick and you really have a safe car.
Lots of funny parts in this video but Speed Felon is my favorite. Did he write his own dialog for this?

Correction: It was "The Hock Shop," not The Pawn Shop.

If I was 16 in 1970 I would have brought a 55 Chevy and built a Gasser

Between 1:30 and 4:25 is the great, truly special, Spencer Quinn. A sweet, generous, wonderful man. May he pass in peace.

Man, I swear, Disney did some drugs making some of these, lol.

I'd take the first two talking cars, the '53 Kaiser and Buick. I'd also take the '59 Cadillac too!

I remember seeing this film in Drivers Ed class in 1972. It was funny then and it's still funny now. That nutty Ward Kimball.
