Souschef73, the Irish troubles were really nothing to do with religon! They were caused by 800 years of British imperialism in Ireland if you know your history. It only took on a religous dimension because most Protestant Irish were more recent settlers and still regarded themselves as British rather than Irish and so didn't want independence from Britain. They used their religion to keep their identity. In other parts of the world like Africa Catholics and Protestants get on OK.

Bravehearts an 'interesting' film although I would recommend reading books on the subject instead, a lot better than the movie. i suggest R Bruce King of Scots by McNair, and there is lots to choose from on Wallace. Souschef73, the Irish troubles were really nothing to do with religon! They were caused by 800 years of British imperialism in Ireland if you know your history. It only took on a religous dimension because most Protestant Irish were more recent settlers and still regarded themselves as British rather than Irish and so didn't want independence from Britain. They used their religion to keep their identity. In other parts of the world like Africa Catholics and Protestants get on OK.

Im a proud Irishman, who loves seeing our history and culture remembered. Bloody Sunday was a day that will always be remembered by everyone the island.
However, there is no place for a march like this in glasgow. Much like there is no room for an orange march in Dublin or the Garvaghy road. Our history should be celebrated, not used to provoke others.
