  • Byrne is awesome in this!

  • I've seen most of Scott Glenn's movies in which he played underrated characters, but his character here in The Keep was so dark and I loved it;also u gotta give props to Gabriel Byrne,Ian McKellen and Jurgen Pruchnow for their performances as well!Hey yo,Paramount, when are u gonna put this long forgotten movie out on DVD and Blu-Ray?!It's been so fuckin' long!!!

  • 0:38 thats an amazing shot of Molosar.

  • I really think that Radu Molasar should be the next Weegee - that is, the subject of an Internet meme where he is placed in an image for humourous effect.

  • 4 great actors, Ian,Gabriel,Scott, and Jurgen. WOW I love this film.

  • @cplkeller1 Kaempffer is the SS officer played by Byrne, Woermann is the Wehrmacht officer played by Prochnow.

  • Does anyone else see this as the inspiration for tyrant from Resident Evil...

  • Most underrated movie of all time, the themes are so powerful.

  • I watched this film the other day, I dont understand it!. Who was that guy with the glowing eyes supposed to be? ––– and is the guy with the red eyes in this scene, supposed to be? ––– In fact can someone explain the whole film, because i didnt really have a clue to what its about?

  • @futurahi I thought that he was supposed to personify the dark evil inside of us all, and that the Nazi's had unleashed a side that all of us have but keep hidden (the keep). Just my interpretation.

  • The Golem turned on it's master, the question , who controlled, created the Golem, and who is the golem suppose to be..Hint, his name starts with an H & ends with an L

  • Amazing movie. German SS officer picks up the cross LOL..But he had no faith, so it didn't work for him LOL

  • whats scary isnt even this part, it's hearing the screams outside as he's slaying an entire camp in a matter of seconds

  • Hey Guys I have Some Good News for those who have netflix this is an able to watch on WIDESCREEN about time i had a look today awesome

  • 0:9-0:11.......looks like molasar been workin' out.Eh, if i were gabriel byrne after askin' wher'd he come, from i'da followed up with-----and what do you bench press!!??-----I must know before i die!! LOL LOL!!!!!!!!!

  • I beg to disagree....the book was far superior. The film, in my opinion was virtually a different story. And the film seemed badly edited in some areas, like it was "fast forwarding" ahead of itself.

  • @cplkeller1 It's Kaempffer.

  • if this movie was anything like the book it would have sucked--- this is one of the great monster movies of all time, molasar being one of the best critters ever made.

  • I can just see Enki Bilal's style in the design of Molasar.

Wouldn't it have been really cool if they'd actually filmed some of this movie in actual Romanian locations?

  • @mccarthystuart What we have to remember back then in 1982 or was it 83, was that Romania was a Communist Dictatorship. Not saying it would've prevented filming there as the 1960's war film Kelly's Heros was filmed in Yugoslavia.....but perhaps to some Movie moguls etc....it may not have gone down too well. You know what times were like back then, then finally at the end of the day...there's the budget to work with.

  • I just wish they'd kept Major Kaempffer's death the same as in the book...being strangled to death by the guy who's just hung himself is way scarier than this!

  • @terriann321 holy crap that does sound good. lol, that would make anybody jump out of their seat at the theatre.

  • It's interesting that Rasalom looks like a golem. The legend of the Golem is a very old Jewish myth, the most famous being "The Golem of Prague" which Chief Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel creates to protect the citizens of the ghetto in the late 16th Century.

  • A golem fits this screenplay. Molasar kicks ass in this film. My Favourite.

  • One of the big letdowns of this film was Molasar. In the book he was 6 foot 7 tall, very broad shouldered with long black hair, black lifeless eyes, and extended canine teeth. He wore boots, breeches, a silk shirt and a cape held in place with a jewelled clasp. He looked more or less human which is a lot scarier. In the film he just looks like Skeletor on steroids.

  • His look in the film definitely deviates from the book, but is still pretty distinctive and cool in itself. That imposing dark figure with the glowing red eyes is pretty haunting, and certainly different from the typical image of a vampire. Just wish he got to be in more of the movie. Also bonus cool points that he was designed by Enki Bilal, a very cool artist.

  • @swanseajackthe3rd That sounds fucking horrible. Doesnt sound like a soul eating demon at all. More like a big gay vampire.

  • I paused it at 0:11 to get a good look at Molasar. Holy shit... intimidating or WHAT!!! (8O

  • Rasalom?!

  • very intense!

  • Molasar is a golem. Evil.

  • the vampire was badly done, not very scary

  • Major Kaempffer has one BAD HAIRCUT!!!!

  • i didn't understand why he says "I am from you".What does this mean?

  • I think Molossar meant he is from evil, essentially the same as Major Kampfer

  • Molassar feeds on evil,as he did in the novel, about 500 years(as Dr. Cuza predicted).

Turning point is Cuza's daughter being raped and losing her virginty, which turns Molassar into the ultimate revenge for Cuza's rage against the German army.

"I am from you" simply means, you owe Malassar your hell bound soul.
