@rehzon Well, yes, or it wouldn't be The Matrix. It was made for humans to be like the real world, remember? I think what you mean to ask is "the Agents can smell?" Possibly, but maybe not. It could be that's why he says, "If there is such a thing." I think he may be speaking figuratively, trying to effectively convey how much he hates the Matrix and the humans who inhabit it, by evoking the visceral "realness" of a repulsive smell.
