I met a girl named Kimora when I was living in Denver. She was to young at the time for me to be with but we held each other (many times) and kissed each other (a few times). We road skateboards together and went around Denver and Aurora together. We went to the movies, played pool, went swimming, and even road the crazy buses around Denver together. To sum it all up: I fell in love with her! This song means a lot to me because, for the rest of my life every time I hear it I think of her.
Mick wrote the song after having his first sexual experience with a black woman which happens to be a back up singer for Ike & Tina Turner....he used the slave trade abuse and the fact that Keith Richards was using "black tar" another word for brown heroin on those days ....so he mixed everything up to make this classic, yes risque, a little insentitive, little bit racist but nonetheless a great song.
Its not really racist i would be led to believe if you listen to the song he is telling you a story that is tragic and in these days it had to be cloked in a upbeat way so the man did not sensor it , i think in no way is he tryin to be racist truth is put out for it to be heard you do with it what you like?
I believe he's was trying to draw a parallel between his passion for black girls and the slave owners passion by referencing historical events he never justifies the slave owners actions but taps into the passion and taboo
This song is the story of a slaver and his son (house boy) raping his young girl slaves. Because of the beat/tune we were all tricked into thinking it was a fun song about the sensuality of black women. It is actually a HORRIFIC song, lyric-wise. But, still one of my favorites, tune-wise. Jagger should have spoken up about it and said he was paying tribute to the plight of the slaves, but he never did. I don't think it's about heroin; that hogwash is just to cover up the harsh lyrics.
@birdgirl37 Listen sweetheart, the song defines heroin. jagger defined the use of heroin in many songs; such as sister morphine. what makes you such an expert on this song? i was one of the arrangers on this track back in 1970; so get it right moron.
Ooooo, you were one of the arrangers, really? Why does that even matter? Well, the arrangement is nothing short of genius, so kudos to you if you are indeed telling the truth; but the lyrics, whatever the intended metaphor, are awful and insensitive when listened to on the surface. Mick Jagger was/is a musical genius, but he, himself, NOW says that certain songs, that were written while they were completely stoned out of their minds, should have been done differently.
@fran9860 You said, "get it right moron." LOL! Hmmmm, sure does make me smile at your juvenile name-calling. LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Yes, I am laughing at you, in case you're wondering. You're a funny little person.
@ledzeppelin27 I know it! I don't understand how the lyrics could have been accepted. I love the sound, wish it had different words. I liked it better when I thought it was just about Mick loving black women. I'm white, but super non-racist...so much so, that I can't stand when I see it.
@birdgirl37 im no racist, but you and everyone who keeps saying this song is about raping slaves need to shut the hell up, im now racist, but who really cares if its about raping slaves? i think its a great rolling stones hit and it shouldnt be badmouthed from people like you
@4395tjh I care. And for the record, I am white...and I care, I really care. I think the arrangement of this song is nothing short of genius, love it, and is still one of my favorites, tune-wise. Just saying: the lyrics are horrific..... for people who are sensitive to the plight of others, that is.
its a catch 22. The song is complimenting black women for being sexy and beautiful , yet its saying our main purpose was for sexual satisfaction. I can understand why some people would be offeneded. I, myself love white men so i doesnt bother me one bit
im going to play this song in my class because iv already learned this song and my class need to get out there. but i love this video. thank u. :) :) :)
Oh, those teenager girls taste just like brown sugar, according to what my ex says!

9860, From what I know about the Stones, it's Keith Richards who is generally the songwriter, not Jagger.
