  • i love the fact that you guys gave non biased review...

  • Did you say "Mercedes 7 series"???

  • hun-die...hun-day....tomaydo, toma'toe

  • Hahaha Mercedes 7 series? yea Mercedes makes a car to compete with theres...

  • 0:40 he said the mercedes 7 series.

  • Oh, I do have one pet peeve. Nearly every reviewer of this car has said, "it has real wood." I'm sure none of these guys have removed the trim pieces to determine that they are thin lacquered wood veneers. Yes, we know they are parrots for the marketing bullet points. But I wish they were plastic and not wood veneers. Plastic is more robust. One wood trim piece in my E66 is cracked. Nine bills to replace. I'd buy a plastic alternative if one existed.

  • Test drove Equus back to back with 740Li. Considering: purchase or lease, respectively. In 7, some but not all of the features in Equus. Soft close + auto trunk not avail on Sig. Equus. Suspension better sorted in BMW. Equus choppy and harsh on rough paving while otherwise supple. Equus more stuff for less $. Must lease BMW 6 cyl instead of buying Equus V8-- minus. Like old BMW 7-series? Then Equus is good. Both I6 and V8 good performers. Comes down to this one question:do you need a BMW logo?

  • "soul of a german car" is he high?

  • he meant BMW 7 series...

  • mercedes 7 series? 0:44

  • mercedes 7 series

  • Holy crap, the Equus is here in the U.S.?

  • @FLDetours

Can you elaborate on the "soul" part? Define the word, explain why German cars have the "soul", and this Equus does not.

  • @sdk1991zzang

For anyone who considers themselves a car fan, they usually buy a car with their heart above badge, performance, mileage, practicality or even reliability. A lot of cars are mass produced today, but when you pick a car and it just speaks to you, it knows what it is and you just feel it when you drive.

It's like being in love, before you know it, you just are. It's there. Cars do have personalities...

  • @sdk1991zzang

A lot of Car reviewers love German cars, and particularly BMW's. Why this is is because German manufacturers make their cars to be driven. For Toyota, they are appliances.

Steering is sharp. Predictable, but never boring. Car is planted and secure. Controls intuitive and well placed. Theres a long list of things that make German cars a bit better than your average Japanese car. You just feel "connected".

BMW is handling. Benz is Luxury, Audi is tech. What and who is the Equus?

  • @LOLitsJono equus has all of that tech luxury and handling....the target of german manufacturers are people without mind and blind....skip hyundai if u want and pay 120.000 euro for a mercedes

  • @vasprap

The video says it DOESN'T have the handling. The car feels "disconnected". I'm not sure how much Hyundai is charging in Europe but in the U.S. it's $60k~ which is BMW 5-series / E-Class Territory. In fact, the E-Class starts at $49,400.

Even though the Equus is far better gadget wise, I would feel like i've gambled $60,000 on a car that's trying to imitate a Benz. Why not just buy the Benz? At least you know what you're getting. If the Equus was 3-series pricing, they'd be golden.

  • @LOLitsJono see 4 your self that guy had nothing bad to say about that car....so he said it doesnt have the soul...look at other reviewers vids and you wil see different views...whats true in the end....and your right equus isnt better than benzes is just at the same level and dont disagree with me

  • @LOLitsJono

u think that way because u have a mindset that german cars are great and have the "soul" but in reality its all business all the german brands mindfuck the consumers with their amazing marketing skills i bet u wont be able to tell the difference between the two (german sedan and equus) if u were blindfolded

  • You said the Mercedes 7 Series, I think you meant the BMW 7 Series.

  • you have to see a japanese talking about korean cars such a hate

  • that some bullsit about the steering, that shit handles nice ... the genesis handled superbly over the germans , only bmw would top in that class.... i own this car in the ultimate and i have owned a 2009 s class ... the 550 .. and that shit cost me 86k with no reall over the top options....my equus was 71k shipped to my home .. with all the stuff included that would of cost me over 130k in my benz... hands down hyundai is in the bgi game now.. and its better than the s class ..

  • what i have to say is that americans cant find a real problem with hyundais so the say that the cars dont have the soul of germans.thats bullshit

  • after weeks of research (and no thanks to the guys at FLDetours, who could have easily answered my question about where this castle is) I have found that this is "Castle on the Hudson" in Tarrytown, NY. just in case anyone else was wondering.

  • did any1 else notice he said mercedes 7 series

  • for Pete's sake, can someone tell me where this castle is in New York?

  • Damn I would love to see that Mercedes 7-series i need prove LMAO

  • he knows its bmw 7 series... just a little fuck up

  • someone tell me where that castle is in the beginning of this video?

  • HAHAHA. Mercedes 7 Series.. 0:43

  • Maybe watching 10 more years on Hyundai's luxury cars. Yes, they can make luxury cars, as tech as others. But they pick what the car have because other brands picked, not because they feel the necessity.

  • I like JF, but I rather watch the car move rather to watch him talk while driving it. I want to see the tale end, the top view, grill, rims, interior...C'mon producer

  • LMAO Mercedes 7 Series

  • @macosftw Yeah, i noticed that fail too. Some car expert.

  • @macosftw dude really, he misspoke

  • For the money, I'll go with the Equus. The new 5 series have plastics so it ain't as clean as it should be plus you get more space and more luxuries in the Equus. I think the interior is attractive too. Big respect for those who prefer the BMW for driving pleasure but for prestige, You are one hell of a cock.

If the Equus succeeds, other manufacturers like Lincoln and Infiniti might be eager to join the competition. After all they have potential.

And Italian cars have soul! German cars do not!

  • @mondeost2202008

IMHO the soul phrase is crap! Honestly one thing what Jeremy Clarkson promoted and is just opinionated and one-sided!

You might say that a Ferrari has more soul than a Porsche. Compare the price: the comparable Italians are easily 1.5 to 2 times more expensive.

And e.g. a Porsche still has much more soul than a [cheaper] Nissan GTR.

But back to topic: a limousine doesn't need soul - but character. And the 7 series, S class or A8 can proof to have more than this Korean rice bowl.

  • @Dominikmj I've been using the words soul and passion way before watching Top Gear whenever I describe anything made special. Not just hand built to be best in its class. Yes, Limousines have character and I didn't say the Equus or any Limousine had soul. The Hyundai Equus HAS character. If it didn't, it wouldn't have sold well in Korea.

  • the Mercedes 7 series? lol @ 42 sec

  • I'd buy the 5 series...

  • Ya know people said the same thing about the VW Phaeton. No one was ready for a 65k VW. That car didn't last. Not that this one will either. But it's all about being different as he said. Look at the Porsche Panamera... Different. I look at it like this like tvs. If you're stepping up from a tube tv to an LCD/plasma... Everything is gonna be better than what you had. You're not gonna get the best and you're surely gonna enjoy whatever you get.

  • @tbok75 The 65K VW is still around (in Europe). Americans just have a superficial image problem. The phaeton is actually a phenomenally well engineered car.

  • Hey guys let me tell you something.

A few weeks ago Hyundai invited me down to the dealer to check out the new Equus.

I took my BMW 550i to compare.

I parked next to one of the Equus, and first thing I noticed is how big the Equus is.

I mean I know it is made to compare with the S-class and 7-series but it's still massive.

Then I got into the Equus, I was disappointed. The interior is crap, it's feels like a Toyota Avalon. For $65k I would buy a house in Detroit.

  • This car has a big problem that most ppl won't get past and it's to do with the brand, no matter what marketing stuff like the Ipad that is pointless bcz if u can spend more that 50 grand on a car surely u already have an Ipad, this is still a hyundai, a car that u buy bcz u need it not bcz u want it,if u go for a luxury car u want ppl to notice it, to envy it.This is just to fill a gap in the manufacturers portfolio and not many want that.

  • @mitzaWRF Granted IMO they should have moved these kind of vehicles off to a higher end line manufacture name, they didn't. That said, your statement is all but 2 years too late. People think different now and people are definitely seeing past the brand name idea lately. Maybe the BMW humpers and the like won't be able to do it, but most of us will. This car is said to be able to definitely hold its value for what it is.

  • JF you are an idiot; BMW pioneered ULTIMATE SERVICE (no charge for brakes oil change, wiper blades for 4 years or 50k) and that service is still active, check BMW website, please have facts right before you spill out, that car is nice but we all know that badge is RUBBISH and AUDI sucks. Happy new year!!!!!!!

  • is that the Cloisters or somewhere else?

  • It's even funnier that you can't read. Hyundai and Sunday both have a short U in the middle douche nozzle. But I guess anything sounds sweet and correct to you coming from JF mouth. Ewww.

  • @bpatryk69 he made a mistake, suck a dick asshat

  • @ahm911 'asshat' hahahahahahahahaaahaahahhaha nice one kangaroo!

  • everyone would rather buy an audi or bmw or mercedes b/c no one wants to say they drive a hundai. they would all much rather say they drive a benz or a bmw or an audi.

  • @lambo357 I loved my Hyundai and drove the shit out of that thing. My Tibby was probably my favorite car, It just had a pretty meager engine and the shifting was a bit notchy but it was fun as hell do drive in the summer. I also own a Mercedes now and it is a great car, I had to choose between it and the CTS and the C was more ergonomic in Japan and the Nav system is bilingual between Japanese and English. Plus the C is probably the one the most reliable cars out of Germany.

  • This car has the same engine as the Genesis it NEEDS more power.

  • @KoolCordell Hyundai is prepping a new, bigger 5.0L Tau V8 with 429HP & 376 ft-lbs of torque paired with a new 8-speed auto; it's expected around March. Although, the new engine will be going into the Genesis too, so you may have a point...

  • Are you guys going to start shooting in HD soon?

  • It's Hyundai not Hondai... emphasis on the short U sound. It sounded like you were saying Honda through the whole interview. Smack yourself and get it right next time.

  • @flatblackstrat funny you are wrong! Hyundai ran a huge commercial in the states concerning the pronunciation of Hyundai, and it's tag line was " hyundai like Sunday "

    /watch?v=vY-5dn3t4xM

  • @gernsback1 Hahaha, I was just gonna post something on how dumb JF is guess you beat me to it. Nah I'll post something anyways....

  • A flagship needs a V12..... just my opinion.

  • This cars main competitor, is the Lexus LS!! Not any of the others he mentions. I think the Equus matches the LS in every single way. The only difference is price. Hyundai's aren't the shit cars they used to be. I've been in the newer ones, and they match the Japs. in every way!

  • Perfect for TheSmokingTire to take on the Bullrun next year. Enough room for equipment and a comfortable drive.

  • good music, nice review.

  • The USA needs to start using more diesel cars, I get 60MPG every day.

  • @MrJonnyJones damn strait.

  • @MrJonnyJones dont forget the US gallon is 3.79 Litres against the UK gallon at 4.55 Litres. The US always sounds a lot worse than it is. however I do agree that good common rail diesel engines are the way forward.

  • @MrJonnyJones id rather walk then drive a diesel car

  • @MrJonnyJones We're goin' Hybrid, straigt up coal powered cars!

  • Mercedes 7 series? wtf? wadda fff? what the fudge?

ru high? or are you high?

or may be ur low low on somthing or the other.....os is there nothing

maybe its sleep depreviation, may its because of the calls from derek

or may beee it is somthing under ur seat.auhhhhhh yea i know its cuz he like the car

or is it because of the intro the stupid intro effect?

    i wan to sleeeeepppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

  • If you think that was the worst intro ever, then you, J.F., are not a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

  • The car does look good, but I would rather go to the Germans for luxury and performance all in one. This car doesn't provide both.

65K for a Hyundai?..... No thank you

  • this car would be a great taxi, thats about it. seriously.

  • totally ignored BMW...haha

  • Only 22 MPG average?! WTF My Dodge Caravan gets better gas milage than that piece of Mercedes wannabe shit. I can get 26 MPG average in my van. I wouldn't be surprised if my Dodge Caravan was faster than that Hyundai as well!

  • @EliteGuard01 wow you need to shut you fucking mouth. why the fuck would u compare the milage of a minivan to a luxury sport sedan.

  • @EliteGuard01

lol very nice comment; I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU lmao

  • i think @ 5:23 the word JF was looking for was "exclusive". with a great car like that being only available in certain dealerships, hyundai is probably going to create some demand from people looking for an affordable flagship vehicle

  • u can polish a turd but its still a piece of shit! who wants to be driving a $70,000 hyundai?

  • hmmm 5 series or hyundai? LOL

  • THEY GIVE YOU AN IPAD?!?!?!

  • You didn't mention the LS!

  • @Fatboychrisdo Because it sucks!

  • @47ambrose42jpm Lemme guess you are 18 years old and you drive a rice rocket civic.

  • @Fatboychrisdo I HATE ricers with a passion. Just because 80% of car watching YouTuber's are rice fans...

  • So negative, people. Toyota went through this same "prestige" crisis with Lexus back in the late '80s/early '90s. People said, "I won't pay that much money for a Toyota with leather seats." Funny how that turned out.

  • JF, pair up with Derek D and Matt Farah.. AND that guy from Shakedown (sorry! I forgot his name).

    Then.

Start the most epic American car show ever! Greetings from Sweden. Yes, we have polarbears walking on the sidewalks.

  • thank for showing u the outside of the car at 40 mph i really got a good look

  • seems to be a rougher ride than i'd expect judging by camera shake... and also, what engine does it have??

  • I kinda want one haha. It's a pretty car. The presidential series also looks pretty nice :D

  • You might want to annotate that 7-series slip.

  • heard that when you need a service, they'll drop off another equus as a loaner car at your location and take your car in

  • Sounds a bit noisy in th background?

  • Great price and I'm sure a very good car, but I don't think I could spend $65k on a Hyundai, even if it was exactly the same as a Bugatti Veyron. The Equus looks similar to the Lexus LS which I guess is a plus. I want to try one of those Mercedes 7 series' that JF mentions, best of Mercedes and BMW.

  • "Although this car doesnt have the sole of a German car..." <-- Since when did German cars have "sole"? Italian cars have sole and passion. German cars have great engineering.

  • @MakeupXOSteph great engineering requires passion

  • You know what turns me off about this car? It is a 65 thousand dollar Hyundai. At 65g's the Hyundai treatment better include at least one beege a week

  • Hyundai is the shit. They are on the up and up fo sho.

  • Mercedes/BMW=Douchebag cars id rather get the Equus or an A8

  • it costs as much as the 5 series, i'd buy the 5 series

  • it was a little slip he clearly meant bmw shut the fuck up trolls

  • stop rambling

You could have said all you needed in the first

    3 minutes

Great review overall however - despite your rants.

Pay $65k for a Hyundai - NO WAY

I'm waiting for the 2012 genesis sedan with the new

    429hp engine

    That's the way to go

  • @sid203

    yeah; paying Equus right now is... well.. some people will want it; ULTIMATE VALUE concerned personnel who really want a big luxury car but is getting little itchy on the revenue its been making on his/her company;

I would really go for the 5.0L Genesis; seems to be much better value + not much shave off in terms of the quality

  • I rather buy the 5 series for the same price than this..

  • The Equus must be damn good for him to forget about Mercedes like that.

  • i finally caught JF's editing. your speech seems seamless, but i got you! at 5:13, the windshield wipers are set at 15 second intervals, at at 5:40 and 5:52, the windshield wipers have been sped up to 5 second intervals instantaneously. i caught you!

  • @thewhitenight it probably has rain-sensing wipers and detected that it needed to up the speed. duh

  • @veyronman o, youre probably right. but it seems like theres a tad bit too much rain on the windshield before it wipes it though.

  • I like that camera view from inside the back seat

  • great review, but was i the only one who felt that jf started repeating himself in the review...

you could see that he was trying to find something bad about the car, but he really couldn't... hmm :/

one thing he did leave out, though, is at the end of the day that value-for-money car is a hyundai, a brand with a HUGE stigma. when you want a luxury car like the equus then you want a name to go along with it. why else do you see more s-class's or 7 series on the roads

  • It looks nice and all BUT can you really drive around in a $65k Hyundai and feel good about that purchase?

  • JF your reviews are getting so much better, I loved this one. Oh and you guys need to do more cars. This is exactly why Car Shows, like Top Gear, require car writers/journalists to succeed.

  • you get an ipad.........

  • I love this car, I really do.

But it will not sell at all.

  • @bg1379

That's the sad thing; should've waited until the 5.0L came out; and then release it with 5.0L...

and perhaps make it "Equus" exclusive; then it might have been different.

  • looks like a great car.. and great review J.F. you said mercedes 7 series but w.e hahah happens to the best of us

  • The mercedes 7 series? I would like to see it.

  • @beseda66

You couldnt handle it. its amazing. and its german

  • Great review JF, I agree that hyundai is definitely on the right track

  • Mercedes must make a bad ass 7 series

  • this should be in HD... fld is fine not being on HD.. but if you do a review you want the viewers to "feel" the detail of the vehicle

  • The only reason people call it a ripoff is because it's so late in the game. The point is that it is a REAL luxury competitor for thousands or tens of thousands of dollars less. I give props to Hyundai for doing this well on its first big try with lux brands (Genesis and Equus; considering Azera and the XG were atrocious).

  • i dont want to come off as being against JF. he's very intelligent and it reflects his reviews. i just cringe a little when i hear ppl blathering about soul and passion in cars.... it comes off fake. no mercedes in this department is built with soul. in my opinion there isnt any soul in nearly every modern day car coming from an established firm (with the exception of private sectors such as McClaren) a hyundai processes no less soul than any other car out there right now in its segment..

  • Good episode! keep up

    merc 7 - haha... how f***g funny...

i would love to participate in some sort of discussions around here but there are too many douchebags so its worth just keeping it to your self.

  • Bull Shit this is a Mercedes Benz S Class rip of

  • soul of a german car :))) LOL

  • Thanks JF.

  • lol mercedes 7 series?

  • cut out the shitty music when JF is talking

  • whenever i look at it i say crap. you know all german brands have some different font for "s500" or "750i"? every brand has their own and its special. hyundai on the other hand seems to be using roman time

  • A diesel Equus would be awesome

  • In the begining u said 7 series mercedez

  • A8 all the freaking way

  • i like this car :D

  • JF, would you really buy that car? i mean, i think its fine... but man is it boring.

  • Hyundai, the new Lexus?

  • guys imma buy the new mercedes 7 to replace my bmw s class

  • @MrIlovebmw86 lol funny. thumbs up

  • I feel that large luxury sedans doesn't have much soul in general, because they are not made for bringing much joy for the driver or being rewarding if you push it to its limits. Sports cars and nippy, unreliable cars are the ones who have soul, because they have their flaws.

Nice review nevertheless, I enjoy watching JF review cars.

  • hyundai has been doing some good stuff

  • You can say w.e. you want about this car and Hyundai but the truth is it brings just as much as the other competitors in that luxury flagship category and more at less price. Its only drawback is it doesnt have that signature and identification the other cars do and i think its prices is lowered accordingly. It is an absolutely fantastic car.

  • AUTO CENTRAL – JULY 22, 2010: Leading German motoring magazine AutoBild, has awarded Hyundai Motor Company the honor of first-place in its annual AutoBild Quality Report for 2010.

Hyundai edged out local manufacturers BMW and Audi and eclipsed its rival Toyota to take the prestigious award based on a comprehensive analysis of reliability, long-term quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Rolls Royce Ghost is da best.....if your are loaded

  • Look at the comments JF! We love you! ^^

  • its a bargain and i think the market is for people who are looking to buy a 5 series but want something much larger for the same price... but i think they should have redesigned the exterior and interior a bit.... both look bland

  • yuck, I'd rather a 5 series. I bet resale is going to be awful on that thing

  • @jonwilliams16 actually no...surprisingly. Its already gotten good sales. Ive seen two and I live in a pretty small and average city.

  • @jonwilliams16 true enough, but resale is bad on EVERY car in that class--7-series, A8/Phaeton, S-Class, even the LS. Their customer generally wants the newest latest and greatest, and the high tech is often unproven and sometimes unreliable (especially the Germans)

What REALLY kills Hyundai resale value (on ANY Hyundai or Kia) is the fact that their 10-year warranty is not transferable.

  • I won't buy a $65000 car from a company that makes a $10000 car

  • @MIP2311 Why not? If they can make a good car for $10000 just imagine what you can get for 65

The test of whether I'd want a $65000 car from a company that makes a $10000 car is actually thr $10000 car, not the $65000 car.

Also, VW makes cheap cars like the Golf and Jetta (priced in the teens). Does that mean you wouldn't buy a Gallardo or R8 just because they make the Golf (which actually has half of the Gallardo's engine)?

Would you not buy a GT-R just because of the Versa?

  • great review JF!

  • wrost intro ever haha love it

  • i think this car is going to be very good when they give it a facelift and improve the interior for next years model

  • Nasty inside not as nice as an Audi A8. That thing can't match the germans.

  • I think it's a bargain considering those back seats and the overall quality. I can say it has more presence than the Lexus equivalent as well as the new A8 or the 7 series. It's probably because here in Russia, you see so many of them. I mean I've seen over 15 Bentleys on the street in the last 2 weeks...

  • lol, hes pronouncing it honda-i

  • you look like your squished up sitting in there

  • Too bad most big wigs only buy german saloons for the image...

  • just get a m3

  • you justsaid that this Car has the Same power as the Benz or the Bimmer??? Wrong! very Wrong. this Sh1t box has : 4.6-liter V-8 with 385 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque, fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission. the Bimmer has a 400 Hp and more importantly 450 lbs of Torque ( very important to move these big cars) same goes for the Benz this Year we'll Have the V8 twin Turbo with more than 460 lb of torque, So Bro do not say that it has the same Power

  • JF is a smart guy and knows his stuff. Saying Mercedes 7 series was a slip so stop being douchebags

  • @GlennTheRussian he could at least go through some sort of script, so he knows what he is saying confidently

  • @GlennTheRussian umad cuz he said mercedes 7 series?

  • @GlennTheRussian That is what editing is for... he could have fixed it so easy.

  • love the interior of the Epuus and even from behind it looks good but my main problem with it is the front a Camry has better styling that is a problem hyundai will have to fix if they want to sell more than a couple dozen of these cars.

  • LOL MERCEDES 7 SERIES?

  • 0:43 BMW 7 Series Bro.

  • german cars are best end of disscusion .... stop bothering with corean cars

  • @erionmema1 yeah.. corean kars kome phrom corea. i guess toyota is from gapan. learn to spell!

  • Did he say Mercedes 7 series? zomg!
