MJ pushed off Russell..Russell probably over-sold the push, but before the push he had his arm around MJ's neck/back area trying to push him down. Fouls could have been called either way.
What gets me about this game is that there were TWO calls that both went in Chicago's favor that cost Utah the game. Not just the Eisley non-three call early, but a late basket by Ron Harper that came after the buzzer sounded. If both calls went the other way, Utah would have been up six instead of one. And the refs wonder why fans think the game is rigged.
The whole world knows that the title was delivered by Stern to his buddy MJ thru the referees. The obvious 6pts steal against Utah was not even denied by the NBC commentators.

For everyone who claims Jordan pushed off on Russell, i have never heard an explanation on why Russell never complained right after. He didn't throw his hands up in protest, the Utah bench was silent, not a word. Russell just quietly walks over to the bench. It was only after they saw the replay that the Jazz and Russell started to bitch and moan.
Russell complained in the locker room immediately after the game long before he would have had a chance to see the replay. Isiah Thomas on NBC immediately pointed out the push off. Sloan, Stockton, Malone never complained about the refs AFTER the game. It's not their style (remember I'm talking POST-game comments). There was also a little time left on the clock; not the best time to pick up a technical.
Jordan haters would probably have nothing to say about the hard shove Reggie Miller gave Jordan in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Besides, if the Bulls had lost Game 6, Bulls fans could counter that Pippen was injured and was ineffective most of the game. Also, if Utah had won, it would have only evened up the series.

You can't say Utah would of won that game just because the Bulls won by 2, because if the refs would of awarded of the points, you could also say that the bulls would of worked extra hard to get those points back, or maybe one of the Jazz players could of and made another 3 and made up for the play, too many variables, the point is in sports, there are gonna be bad calls made by the refs, u just have to play through them. If the Jazz would of won, no one would of complained.

That little hand on his leg did nothing to make Russell slip. His body was already turned defending the drive. Jordan caught him way out of position and pulled up for the jumper.

I definitely agree with the other plays being miscalled though, and he probably was lookin to take those shots away from the jazz. However replay was not done then, so its actually a close call, and it wasn't nearly as bad as other games like game 6 2002, or even typical shit today where i think its gotten out of hand.

Jordan didn't push him hard enough, if at all. Since when were you not able to put your hand on defenders in 1998? Theres no way MJ can muster that kinda energy from where he touched him with his posture to just push a (huge) guy like Russell to the ground like that. Back then hand checking rules didn't preclude people from putting hands on each other.
It only looks like he pushed because he fell down. Have you ever seen MJ crossover people before? They trip up all the time

What I meant, Mr. YT fighter, was that the Ron Harper shot shouldn't have counted. And the Howard Eisley three should have counted. Those were missed calls in favor of CHI. But the Jordan "push-off" was minor contact and deserved no call. Imo, the Bulls were the best team. 99% of people would agree.

What gets me about this game is that there were TWO calls that both went in Chicago's favor that cost Utah the game. Not just the Eisley non-three call early, but a late basket by Ron Harper that came after the buzzer sounded. If both calls went the other way, Utah would have been up six instead of one. And the refs wonder why fans think the game is rigged.

It's quite sad to call the Utah jazz fans.
The whole world knows that the title was delivered by Stern to his buddy MJ thru the referees. The obvious 6pts steal against Utah was not even denied by the NBC commentators.
Malone, an often outspoken person, against the commissioner wouldn't get what M-the crybaby-J woukd get from the refs. "Oh, refs didn't show me respect" when the Buls were demolished was always rewarded by 20-30 free shots in the next game.

Why do you think Bavetta and the gang would never really officiate any Olympic Games and the like?
At any rate, as an international basketball referee I was really appalled by that game and lost quite a bit of my interest in NBA. As far as the last (non)-call is concerned that is quite justified. The question whether it's a foul or not entered no one's minds. Yes, it seemed that MJ just touched Russell.

the Jazz stood no chance because its all a conspiracy...The NBA wanted the Bulls and MJ to win the championship, and they did whatever it takes to make that happen...blowing calls early in the game changes momentum, but doesn't make the refs look as bad at the end, even though we all know about the blown calls at the end...
Terrible officiating...but the Jazz still had their chances...

lol wow thats the biggest Jazz fanboy explanation ive ever heard of. You wish there was something to blame other than your damn team for losing the finals. Its easy to blame refs but does that mean that all basketball games MUST be fixed? Do you even play basketball, if so you'd know that refs on the whole are usually always terrible at officiating. IN ALL GAMES there are bad calls, its as much a part of basketball as anything else. MJ knew how to play the refs ex. slapping himself for fouls.

I think certain teams get more favorable calls sometimes, but I think since the whole Donaghy thing, refs are much more careful to get the call right...
And MJ had nothing to do with this video...they were just blatent misses that everyone in America, including those at the arena, could see were wrong...without any replays...

Final score should have been Utah 89 Chicago 85. Still not sure about the MJ bryon Russell "push off" but the jazz might just have won in game 7 who knows. I think it came down to just lousy refereeing.

No matter how much you say they could have won, they couldn't have. You know why? because MJ is the best. What if that three had of counted? maybe they go on a horrible run to end it, that one being their last point in the entire game? Don't try to make proclamations on how your team *could* have won, if you had of gotten the correct call.

For everyone who claims Jordan pushed off on Russell, i have never heard an explanation on why Russell never complained right after. He didn't throw his hands up in protest, the Utah bench was silent, not a word. Russell just quietly walks over to the bench. It was only after they saw the replay that the Jazz and Russell started to bitch and moan.

Russell complained in the locker room immediately after the game long before he would have had a chance to see the replay. Isiah Thomas on NBC immediately pointed out the push off. Sloan, Stockton, Malone never complained about the refs AFTER the game. It's not their style (remember I'm talking POST-game comments). There was also a little time left on the clock; not the best time to pick up a technical.

Jordan haters would probably have nothing to say about the hard shove Reggie Miller gave Jordan in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Besides, if the Bulls had lost Game 6, Bulls fans could counter that Pippen was injured and was ineffective most of the game. Also, if Utah had won, it would have only evened up the series.

I remember watching that game & I remember saying,"those stupid refs have just given the Bulls the championship with those 2 calls." 6 point swing because of those refs being told to swing the game the Bulls way by David Stern. There would have never been The shot situation because the Jazz would have finished the game off. The Jazz would have won game seven with the momentum they had, & how Malone was just destroying them down low. 10 yrs later its still a damn dirty shame.

You're actually surprised that the officials gave a game to the Bulls? Without Stern's referees, the Bulls would have won ZERO titles. Defenders weren't allowed with two feet of Jordan and the rest of team got favorable treatment as well.

You have a point about the refs OsterTagShotTupac BUT its not fair and unsportsmen like when ya swipe at the defenders legs to throw him off balance coupled with a push-off makes you a cheater and fraud. Don't make the a case about jordan wanting it more cause it was just a cheap dirty trick to get a basket, how about passing the ball when you are well covered. He actually had NO help under or around the basket that makes ya wonder why he did push-off and clip the defenders legs.
