  • this guy is really idiot, he is still trying to give stupid excuses for breaking someone privacy!

  • amina obviously doesnt exist... end of story

  • Secular Syria don't atacks Gay citizens because acording to the Syrian State sexuality (including homosexuality) is a private matter. Unlike Islamic extremists, (so called wahabbis/ salafists or takfirists), that are atacking Syria's civilians and army forces to overthrow Syrian State, want to impose a Islamic State, where homosexuality will be punished by death penalty. So a Damascus's gay bloguer is a CIA propaganda broadcasting by USA, France, UK and Qatar channels.

  • Americans are dumbass hicks, can't believe they think they can get away with this shit. May China rape the US.

  • Trolling became a profession, This fat 40 year old American, living in Scotland, should be punished for his crime,

  • @dellbalboa Successful troll was indeed successful...

  • He looks gay anyways. To pretend that he is a whore living in Syria and then write false stories about Syria to cause problems. That is gay..yeah...That is actually prostetution, I think....

  • The syrian blogger who defends "Amina" must feel like an idiot now

  • So turns out it's some Turkish guy. Not surprising, these guys are kinda feminine.

  • @tFighterPilot Feel stupid?

  • Well, it's a 40 year old man, and his wife who is the publisher of lezgetreal that stole this lady's identity. Identity theft is the worst thing you can do to someone online. I hope these retards spend the rest of their lives in prison.

  • @b0rk3d

l don't understand how they too kher pictures anyway....how can someone stole your fb pics if you don't have him in friends ?

  • Beautiful person

  • "The true identity of internationally renowned blogger 'A Gay Girl in Damascus' has been revealed as a 40-year-old American man.

Tom MacMaster, a student at the University of Edinburgh, wrote an apology on the blog today, confessing that the entire thing was a hoax.

His admission came after days of questioning and pressure by suspicious readers who did not buy the story that 'blogger' Amina Arraf, a lesbian Syrian-American living in Damascus, had been arrested".

  • The guy keeps being like "ISN'T THIS A CAUTIONARY TALE?" And both of them are kinda like "meh." NO, this is not a "cautionary tale" that you should not post normal face photos online. SORRY, ASSHOLE, stop blaming the victim.

  • I can really understand the reason why Jelena is so upset, I mean put yourself in her place, what if it was something else! You can wake up one day and find you are someone else like a terrorist or sth!

And at the same time, that girl under the name of "Amina" has all the reasons to hide her true Identity, I mean the title says it all "Gay Girl in Damascus", But if she true held another Nationality, why didn't she ask for political asylum?! She has that right and she must 've known that!

  • amina does not exist, and if she does she's a rotten bitch for ruining someone elses life.

  • I just want to start by saying if Amina does really exist, I hope she's okay and I hope she gets released soon! And gets back to her family safe and sound.

But I do understand why Jelena was so upset. I mean, yeah if you're blogging about politics in Syria, you certainly have EVERY reason to hide your identity, use a fake name, etc, but why steal someone's pictures? Why drag someone else into this? It's just wrong and unfair!

Praying for Amina's safety, whoever she is, wherever she might be!

  • Surely people can understand the reasons behind Amina not using her own photo. In her defense she probably started off not knowing how popular she'd eventually become but it wasn't a smart move.

Jelena comes across as a complete DICK. Only a brief thought spared for this girl who may well have been kidnapped (and probably tortured). If Amina and her story are real then I hope Jelena looks back at this interview and is ashamed at her stroppy behaviour over a minor inconvenience (in comparison)

  • @rozalozadingdong Minor Inconvenience? This coward uses another persons picture. I guarantee that you would be a 'DICK' too if someone was using a photo of you for political reasons.

Example: 'Gay man in Damascus.' Uses your photo. Some fanatic recognizes you somehow. You have no idea that your photo is used. This fanatic decides to kill you for going against cultural and religious views. Minor Inconvenience?

Think before you take it upon yourself to judge this woman's thoughts.

  • @JeanetteTherese First off, a gay guy wouldn't get far using my photo cos I'm not a dude.

I think you've missed the point. It's easy to be completely on Jelena's side if you haven't been following the uprising in Syria. It's no joke... people are being killed, tortured and imprisoned. Amina (if real) is one of the few that have been successful in reporting the truth on what's really going on in the country, at the risk of her own life. I said it was an inconvenience in COMPARISON.

  • @rozalozadingdong No, I did not miss your point. Your point is naive and thoughtless. This person used someone else's picture, without that persons consent, to protect their own identity while writing about political and cultural uprisings dealing with a group of people that have no problem resorting to violence if needed. It doesn't matter if it was an inconvenience in 'COMPARISON'. It was identity theft and it could have gotten someone who had no part in this charade killed.

  • @JeanetteTherese Stick to the context! Jelena is NOT in Syria. The Syrian Government are NOT going after foreign citizens. She is NOT at risk of being killed for her sexual identity - there are plenty of homosexuals in london. and, it wasn't identity theft - she didn't steal her name, just her picture, and that happens ALL the time on the internet - just not with high profile bloggers. My original point was made in COMPARISON, so it does matter since it is the argument you chose to reply to.

  • @rozalozadingdong

    you really are an idiot

  • @rozalozadingdong I am sticking to the context. WE LIVE IN A GLOBAL ERA! With Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social networking, the barriers you seem to think still exist are blurred. The gov may not be going after foreign citizens, but there are always those who are outside the country that agree with what that gov is doing. Her pic was plastered everywhere. Someone could have easily recognized her and taken action.

This blogger was incompetent and careless.

  • @rozalozadingdong And yes, using someone's picture, without their consent, is identity theft.

  • @JeanetteTherese That said - I've just read the post of admittance that Amina is not real. If this guy had been living in Syria, I would've still stood by what I said.

  • im not obliged to warn people against their own stupidity. i leave it to folks like you, who seem more experienced in this matter.

  • Her face wasn't dragged all over the place. It pretty much looked the same throughout the interview.

  • @ARANDOME HAHAHHAHA :P

  • The picture is on one of the profiles she uses to comment on her own comments.. try to squint to see it.. the pictures were also used on her personal facebook page, she communicated with her fans on this page.. she also communicated with media using this particular facebook page.. when she was asked for a personal interview, she sent that same picture with an apology that she can't do the interview for security reasons! .....STILL NOT CONVINCED SHE'S A HOAX! UR AN IDIOT!

  • If you can't see past the fake picture then you're dumb. Read An Inspector Calls, Inspector Ghoul comes out and corrects all these social wrongs amongst this corrupt family, but it turns out that he wasn't even a real Inspector. So the snobbish, old members of that family then dismiss the advice from Ghoul because he wasn't a real Inspector, whereas the younger generation of that family take his advice anyway and change for the better. Dont take it at face value, this happens in other countries

  • "Facebook Privacy Settings not work"?!!! wake up, everything you post is in the internet and if wanted shared, taken...

  • @mirabeau1789y shut up, she didn't know. Not everyone is technology savvy.

  • she/he posted this pics on her facebook page.

    twitpic*com/58vu5a

This person fooled everybody but me. I read her blog stories and knew immediately that this was a fraud.

  • @Atterapravaecclesia so why didnt you warn anyone else? you`re just as stupid as everyone else then

  • i don't know if Amina is real or not, but if she is real, i only hope she'll be free. And patience to Jelena, it's really disturbing that someone's privacy can be easily destroyed!

  • someone link to this alleged picture on the blog, its not there.

  • Seriously, the picture never appeared on the Blog!

  • @FellDrake thats true. I was wondering about that myself..but why would the media use this poor girl's pictures? its so weirdd

  • @Misayra I always assume incompetence before I assume malice. Someone was lazy with their fact checking. Really you only need one newspaper or site to make a mistake and the rest will pick it up and just assume the first guy had it right.

  • @FellDrake yea prob true. It sucks that this women has to suffer for it.

  • @FellDrake it was on Amina's personal facebook page! the one she used to communicate with her fans.. with journalist.. with media.. with everyone! it wasn't on her blog.. she even sent the photo to a journalist by email, when she said that she can't meet him!

  • The photo never appears on the Gay Girl in Damascus blog, that's not where the news services got it.

  • this is so scary!! wth!!
