usually the packaging of the clay will tell you this, it varies depending on brand, but is generally around 10 minutes, checking every so often.

It has to be baked in the oven. It'll have instructions on the box. Go to any craft store (Not wal-mart... they only have a really cheap clay) such as Michaels or you can buy it off eBay for about 10$ cheaper than most stores.
