This might be insensitive to you guys, but I saw this scene randomly on tv in the ending and only looked it up because I thought Sarah Connors was extremely hot
I really cried when I was a child and watched this. Poor Terminator, my hero melted into shit liquids, and all I could do was to watch. True story :'(
I was on the verge of crying the very first time I saw this, then when his thumb lifted up I literally jumped up and fist pumped the air, and shouted YE-HEAAAAHHH!!
The effects are still great to this day. Remember this is 1991. This could every well be the best movie of the 90's, everything about Terminator 2 is amazing. I was 6 yrs old when this came out. My dad brought this home one night and I have LOVED it ever since.
This is the thing with a lot of James Cameron movies...they can become emotional in the most action-packed moments, there's no shaky camera-ness, he knows CLEARLY how to make fucking awesome movies, and it seems to me he knows what the hell he's doing...especially for a movie like this which was WAY ahead of its time. ;) lol
For a film absolutely saturated with Testosterone this scene never fails to get the estrogen going, Absolutely love it the music gives me goosebumps haha
It's amazing how well the special effects still hold up to this day!! In 2010, they look as good or even better than most film effects today! I can't imagine how blown away audiences were in 1991! Great movie, great sequel, there shouldn't have been anymore after this one!
@lenzino7383 lol I remember seeing this when I was 6 in the theater back then. it was PACKED. I still to this day have never experienced such a full room. I had to stand to see it. And it totally blew me away! It was a hell of a experience, believe me.
@TheFemaleAtheist It is because it didn't have to be an action movie, and it didn't even have to be a movie about the future. It still has a story of its own without that. Which not many action movies have. The action and sci-fi-thing was only to make it more appealing (to men). It is a movie about growing up & taking responsibility and about love & loss and all that. Basically, like one said, men cry to Terminator, women cry to Titanic, but it's the same stuff. That's allso why T3 & T4 sucked.
This is what get's to me about Terminator 3 & 4. In this scene they destory the arm and two chips and is made to look like they may have prevented the war. But with the other movies, it pretty much shits on this scene because it should the scene was all for nothing, that it was pretty pointless. But I guess this was just to delay the war in the hopes that they could find away to fix it.
this is one of my favourite moments of any movie. but its one of the sadest. "i know now why you cry; but its something i can never do...." *tear* but the thumbs up. that was the best moment. thumbs up to him to. R.I.P terminator
he dies to prevent sky net, but it was still created. And there aren't any remanents of the project. Geez, I love these movies, but that's just stupid.*sigh*and sad.
@ crazykillerchicken1: well there is actually one remnant that alot of people haven't picked up on (evidently the director for T3 as well) , and that is the T-800's arm that's caught in the gear thing...
I don't get why the T-1000 gawks before the grenade explodes in him. I thought the T-1000 was set at read-only, so it wouldn't learn to be human like the T-800 did.
Or was the T-1000's expression just thrown in for cinematic effect? :\
@Mutaburasaurus No, Skynet was based on the CPU, the only thing that they could learn from the arm is the way it works and materials, but that is about the T-800, it has nothing to do with Skynet itself and without Skynet the T-800 will never be designed.
This movie has it all, lots of the action, sweet good put humor, makes viewer have deep thoughts (Nuclear holocaust, machines taking over, sadly, it can happen), awesome graphics (even by today's standarts), good music, and one of the saddest ending scene in history of filmmaking.
This makes me cry everytime i see it i dont know why but its a really sad scene i meen he was awesome he was best but he gave his life for good and glory and that is THE ONLY TRUE COURAGE!!! AND PRIDE!
One of the best heroes out there. This T800 model has got to be the best. T850 from T3 is a bit meh, but stronger than T800, but T800 had more heart that the T850.
But, the theme is different in T3 compared to T2. Just think of it as a "continuation" as where Arnold (there was so much you can learn about emotion) was programmed to not kill in T3, his more detailed knowledge on John's future family.
Have you seen T4? It's badass. Not as good as T1 & no one can beat T2 but I liked it alot. About time this franchise came back to the big screen & respected viewer's intelligence as opposed to being, big, loud Transformers shit
No it's about time that hollywood actually realised, that the majority of people are fed up of reboots, and dreadful sequels! Most people like Terminator 1 and 2 only, 3 and 4 have just been a waste of money. The only real decent Terminator production made recently imo is The series Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles. It takes place after Terminator 2 and the best part is Terminator 3 doesn't exist.
You're going to hate me for this but while T2 is the best in the saga, I like the other sequels as well mainly because they don't try to be bigger & better, just more grand slam summer fun.
The T.V. show was alright but then FOX kept trying to cancel it, the writers got pressured & the 2nd season was so depressing to the point to where it wasn't anymore fun to watch.
Also, I will take Terminator 3 & 4 over crap like Tranformers or overrated films like AVATAR anyday
Yeah, I think a lot of it is that by this point, the Terminator had become not only John's best friend, but his father figure, and watching him die like this can move guys to tears. =(
It's just like what Sarah said while she was in the Salceda compound: of all the would be fathers John had, the T-800 was a sane choice in an insane world.
manly tears
