@HurricaneTBag Actually m8, usually the 81 is in the neck position. 90% of the guitars you see which had an EMG 80 series set will have the 81 up top :)
@HurricaneTBag usually the 81 goes in the bridge, but when the 85 or 89 is in the bridge, it gives more bite, sounds fatter and delivers a more "organic" sound which is cool when you're using low tunnings.
@lasoogneypubes i was replying to a guy who said home movies which is a show with a kid in it named brandon smalls. their names are similar so he made the mistake and i was correcting him. the guys name is in the name of the vid im not an idiot.
@PANICBLADE No in Home Movies it's still Brendon Small. There's actually a bunch of times in the show where people call him Brandon and he corrects them and says "Brendon". IMDB that shit
@nsnBORN2KILL Actually, each EMG model has its own distinct sound. I can still understand that you think that since most "metal" guitars come equipped with an 81 in the bridge, which has a razor-sharp treble attack, and tend to sound very harsh.
Lol, got 81's in the neck of my Ibanez RG550. Switching for an EVO because i don't like the EMG in the neck. I have another 81 in the bridge and it sounds perfect. Now i'm going to go Crush My Battle Opponents Balls then get on my Thunderhorse to go find those fucking Vikings I Lost when my Hatredcopter crashed into the Water.
@D1vid3By0 You can't have active and passive pickups in the same guitar. Well you can, but it takes a hell of a lot of work and there's hardly ever enough room inside the control cavity.
Well the 81's are going to have to go... I just took my guitar apart for refinishing. Thanks for telling me dude! Probably going to look for some EVO's or maybe Air Norton.
My comment is going to be a bit crazy but I want to let Brendan know what an inspiration he is to me as a cartoonist and musician myself. He is living what I only dream about, and I am so in love with Nathan Explosion. I want him for myself lmao! I have many ideas for cartoon characters (of the dark metal variety) and some awesome stories to go with them, including Nathan. Does Brendan have a fan page? I haven't found one yet.
@XIntoxicationalX no the dave mustaine signature is good for dave's band or the wall. why buy a signature when you can buy a non signature guitar and then customize it?
Funny enough I just got an old 97 black Gibson Explorer and made it just like this one to a T, the pickups, Truss rod cover/ pick guard. Only thing is I use 12s for my strings. Light to heavy set is nice but for C standard I feel like I would have to tune way too much because my bridge wasn't setup for it.
I know we are supposed to avoid not nice comments...but EMG's? REALLY??? No wonder Skwizgaar is more about speed than tone...otherwise a great looking axe, and I am ond of Explorers (but they GOTTA have PAF type pickups, no active anything ever for any reason, so it is written so it shall be!)

the ultimate metal guitar has to be made out of 100% metal xD
@linzemol Just a standard Gibson one, I don't know about Epiphone ones. I have one with gold hardware and a wood finish. You can check it out on my page but I just play metal so I can't show you it's full range.
I got the same guitar, custom pickguard too and rod cover, its all shiney black like the whole guitar, and i put EMG's 81 and 85 in it :) and it has skull inlays :)

alexdroogie100 1 year ago
@alexdroogie100 well i think there is a good amount of tone in Skwizgaar's solos but i really don't see what's wrong with EMGs. it's a personal preference thing i guess. i love EMGs. they can be very versatile if you know how to make em so.
the thing is they sound pretty robotic when played on a solid state. valve amps + EMGs kick ass though. it just depends on what you're trying to play, i guess. if you want thrash, go EMG. if you want soul, go with PAF style.
