i have it too and a lot of the issues Walt is talking about are true but i think that even if it is one touch tech a lot of the "problems" will vanish as software develops further, for example it can zoom with 2 fingers but not rotate, anyway i really do believe that the only actual downside is that there are not a lot of touch applications, when you do operate such software the experience is VERY natural and convenient, i highly recomend it.

To paraphrase Walt, this pc is pretty (just like the iMac) but its not all that powerful. You'll be paying a premium for the design and the very limited capabilities of the touchscreen. For the same price, you can get a far more powerful system plus you can upgrade when needed. (Cant do that with the all-in-ones).
I've been playing with one in a store and the touch screen tecnology is really fun but, I'd wait till windows comes out with their win 7 version. I think the touch technology is over rated for upright computers just because your arm gets so sore from reaching up and tapping the screen. They should put the touch technology in all their models. The touch screan technology is even easier to use than a Apple computer and thats a first. I just hope MSFT doesn't rune the great graphics and easy use.

I had one of these for 2 months. I had my money refunded after a 6 weeks repairtime, which did'nt eliminate the major problem, that Windows Vista can't update itself on this machine. There is obviously a problem with Vista and Touchsmart - they are from two different worlds - in one machine = problems.
Arn't they coming out with something similar like a cofee table or somethin... Can you download games ad play them on the touch smart? And if so is it good for gaming?

I dnt think so because the way it works is around the frame theres a glass lining which are the sensors and wen u touch the screen u break the direct connectivity. and If u press on a point that whole electric line is broken so u cnt point any where else. because wen I point on another place the mouse goes crazy lol. and windows 7 isnt just made for the touch smart so why would u need it to have multi touch. I think windows7 has multi touch. but not for this computer! but i really dnt know lol

If you watch the ACTUAL reviews on youtube and stuff, you'll see that it has multi-touch, most of them have 8Gb and not 4Gb, some of them have 1TB of Hard Drive space, most have 500 or 600 Gb of hard drive space, and they ALL have an HD graphics card of some sort from ATI, they all have intel duo core, some have quad but not very many, and they ALL have TV Tuners, and some have Blu-ray.

Apple has yet to even MAC a touchscreen Mac. Seeing this system with Windows 7 shows me that regardless of Apple's patents their not bringing anything to fruition save for the OS. This machine IS capable of multi-touch, the Vista OS cannot recognize it. Common Walt give credit where its due - and stop dipping your hands in Apple's pockets. Your comparing software to whats to come "a few years in the future". Considering this is a HUGE improvement from initial try HP has done VERY well.
Pretty much a spot-on review. One note though: TouchSmart hardware DOES support multi-touch, and it IS [barely] used in TouchSmart interface (for resizing icons). As multitouch applications become available (Windows 7 and 3-rd party), this machine will show its true potential. For all those wondering this computer has a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 ... this is not a great card but you will be able to play COD4 on there will little to no lag depending on your connection. So ya you could play games on it but no this is not a gaming PC
That depends on which one of these computers you buy, I know at least one has an nvidia 9800 M GS graphics card and 4GB memory, which enables you to play more demanding games like bioshock.

PC = personal computer. A mac is a type of PC. Mac used to run off motorola 040 cpus and had incompatible instruction sets with windows/dos operating systems. However, now they both run off the x86 architecture. You might as well ask what's the difference between a Ford and a car.
A better question is what's the difference between Apple and microsoft. The answer to that one is Apple sells you a warm fuzzy feeling of being different because you bought essentially a PC with overpriced software.
I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. How much value do you place on a touch screen interface? If that is important to you, then the HP Touchsmart is not a bad deal for the price as touch screen monitors are extremely pricey. If the touch screen is just a novelty for you, then the novelty will probably wear off fairly quickly and you will have paid a lot of money for a standard PC. Windows media center, which comes included in Vista, has much if not all of the same features.
Really good review, I thought it was a good PC, but not with all the potential we could think it has, with this review it gets confirmed and it is better to wait until they get a real multi touch and a better technology for it.
Balanced review yet it should be noted that this is a good adaptation of a tablet PC into a desktop form factor. You can surf the Web, edit Word documents, and use any application - all using touch to navigate and select text, choose menu items, move windows around, switch between apps, etc. I have a tablet PC (HP tx2525) and love it for this reason.

You should correct your error, poster - this is multi-touch. It's limited to two fingers at the moment, but the technology is developing. The development API is available for free from the company Next Window inc.

I'm not so sure that a multi touch interface is more intuitive and/or necessarily better than a single touch interface...it has a certain "gee whiz" factor but I'm not impressed as yet

Apple has yet to even MAC a touchscreen Mac. Seeing this system with Windows 7 shows me that regardless of Apple's patents their not bringing anything to fruition save for the OS. This machine IS capable of multi-touch, the Vista OS cannot recognize it. Common Walt give credit where its due - and stop dipping your hands in Apple's pockets. Your comparing software to whats to come "a few years in the future". Considering this is a HUGE improvement from initial try HP has done VERY well.

Pretty much a spot-on review. One note though: TouchSmart hardware DOES support multi-touch, and it IS [barely] used in TouchSmart interface (for resizing icons). As multitouch applications become available (Windows 7 and 3-rd party), this machine will show its true potential. Search for multitouch demos by Canineinteractive and Fingertapps for a glimpse of what's next

For all those wondering this computer has a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 ... this is not a great card but you will be able to play COD4 on there will little to no lag depending on your connection. So ya you could play games on it but no this is not a gaming PC

That depends on which one of these computers you buy, I know at least one has an nvidia 9800 M GS graphics card and 4GB memory, which enables you to play more demanding games like bioshock.

PC = personal computer. A mac is a type of PC. Mac used to run off motorola 040 cpus and had incompatible instruction sets with windows/dos operating systems. However, now they both run off the x86 architecture. You might as well ask what's the difference between a Ford and a car.
A better question is what's the difference between Apple and microsoft. The answer to that one is Apple sells you a warm fuzzy feeling of being different because you bought essentially a PC with overpriced software.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. How much value do you place on a touch screen interface? If that is important to you, then the HP Touchsmart is not a bad deal for the price as touch screen monitors are extremely pricey. If the touch screen is just a novelty for you, then the novelty will probably wear off fairly quickly and you will have paid a lot of money for a standard PC. Windows media center, which comes included in Vista, has much if not all of the same features.

Balanced review yet it should be noted that this is a good adaptation of a tablet PC into a desktop form factor. You can surf the Web, edit Word documents, and use any application - all using touch to navigate and select text, choose menu items, move windows around, switch between apps, etc. I have a tablet PC (HP tx2525) and love it for this reason.

You should correct your error, poster - this is multi-touch. It's limited to two fingers at the moment, but the technology is developing. The development API is available for free from the company Next Window inc.
