thanks!! i love this movie!!! and the character of Mangal Pandey means so much not only for India but for all countries which suffered of colonization. i'm not from hindoustan but this movie 's very emotional to me. amir khan is very gifted, very engaged which differencies from other bollywood stars. he produced lots of good movies; promoted real india and not the glittering india, just the richs. i was told that mangal means "be blessed" and even if i'm muslim, mangal GOD BLESS YOU

that method of hanging is not the same as the gallows, where the condemned man's body drops far enough that the jerk of the rope breaks his neck - this method here just hoists the man in the air, where he strangles -- as in "let him dangle" -- oddly inhumane

from 4:14 onwards, "dekho dekho samay kya dikhae, dekh kar bhi na vishwas aae

koi duniya se ab ja raha hai, kitne gaurav se sir o uthae

woh nidar hai, woh amar hai, jaan jaati agar hai to jae" the poet says that see what unbelievable scenes time shows us. someone is going to leave the world with such pride and self-confidence. every mother would be blessed to have a son like this man.

from 2:20 to 4:14 the line..."jaage nagar saare...jaagi hai pedon ki chaaw" is used for a very different meaning. here it means that all the household, every city and village of India has awakened to the fact that we do not want to be controlled bythe Britishers.

"khule sabhi ke bhagya ka dwara, sabhi kushal mangal hui jae" here they are wishing everyone the very best of luck for all their jobs and wish that all the endeavours of ppl will do them good (mangal)

"lala, munsi, pujari, sipahiya...halka bhari sabhi tul jae, jogi phir le ke ek-tara aur bas apne mann ki gae" means that ppl from all walks of life get together and start their daily business. ek-tara is a single string musical instrument in India. the line jogi phire...refers to the men on the elephant saying that they dont are of the world and just get on with their business of singing with the ek-tara

@CyberSetan I will tell you the meaning of the song, not an exact translation but the meaning of it. First till 2:19 in the song, the men on the elephant are greeting everyone in the morning of a new day and saying that a new morning is here, why should anyone sleep? Get up and get ready for your daily chores and we hope that everyone has a good day. "mangal" in Hindi means "good"

"danka bole dum dum jaago jaago ab tum neend mein ho kyun ghum...jaago re

jaagi jaagi hai dharti saari aur jaga jaga hai ambar, jaagi jaagi hai nadiya sari aur jaga jaga hai sagar" 'jaago'/'jaagi'/'jaago' means to get up from slumber; 'danka' means drum 'neend' means sleep, 'dharti' means Earth, 'ambar' is sky, 'nadiya' is river, 'sagar' is sea...the poet in these lines says that a new morning has arrived, the whole universe has woken up (Eart, sky, rivers, seas)...

"bhor aave jo Ganga nahane raat har ghat se hat jae" means when the morning comes to take a dip in the holy river Ganga, the night leaves every river bank. "surya kirno ki talwar taane aur andhiyara sab kat jae" means literaly that when the Sun arrives armed with the sword of its rays, all the darkness in the world is shred to pieces

@ashishtandon07 "koi tat par hi dhuni jamawe koi darshan ko jhatpat jae" by now the poet is convinced that everyone has got up and have started getting ready for their day. in the olden days in India, the saints used to meditate at riverbanks. so the poet says that some meditate in the morning and some rush to do Darshan of their Gods and then start off with their work.

"le ke karwat uthe phir bajariya, aur dhandha sabhi khul jae" means, once the morning prayers are done, the daily business starts (bajariya means market place and uthe also means to get up, dhandha sabhi khul jae means ppl get down to their daily business

@surma1231 because Hindi is of limited use other than in India and Pakistan... besides... availability of Hindi teachers is problematic in most parts of the world including my country and also there is no one to practice the language with... that is why... the rest of the world can't actually learn Hindi properly even if they wanted to~

for example, my country (Malaysia) has a lot of Tamilians...

...but it is not a strong enough reason for a foreigner/Non-Indian like me to master Hindi~
