  • They are called cues rabbit cock. If you ever played lead you would know.

  • you can barely hear the tenor

  • @BaritoneSaxKing if you watch the the fingers of the tenor sax player, he is most likely playing the same part as the 2nd alto part and just changing to make the chords on the long notes but the alto player is playing much louder lol...poor tenor sax.

  • @darkzone474 lol agreed bro

  • imagine the lead alto part played on bari sax XDXDXDXDDDDDD

  • Holy crap. i want this played at my funeral

  • sounds like someone at :59 was about to clap to the beat... then they stopped. what a lame crowd

  • what a typical assface mongoloid lead player, with his gay little moves.

    I have spoken

  • @rabbitcockable thanks rabbit cockable. your name says it all.

  • @rabbitcockable Okay, that makes a lot of sense. I mean, the guy just ripped that piece apart and you are judging this recording by the Russ' movement? Let me guess, you are the guy with a pole up his ass in his solo and doesn't feel a damn thing.

    I have spoken.

  • 11 trumpets watched this vid in envy.

  • i luv the lead sax player's hair

  • what's the title this piece?

  • luv the lead sax's boppin :D

    Awesum Solo

  • How do you play what the lead alto did from 1:16-1:21. Been trying to figure that out forever

  • YES!!!!!!! Hallelujah!!!!!!!!

  • I love it when the alto goes into overdrive. :D

  • this is savage lol... im mad the sax choir at my school never got started... i would definatly wanna play this

  • got... dang...

  • Increadible! Love your work. Superb.

  • wow! that was great! really love that crazy sound.

  • that was super. The harmonies with the barry work really well. Keep up the great work !

  • That was amazing. I have watched this video so many times now!

  • One of my all time favourite saxophone videos

  • i wish i could hit alltissimo notes that well

  • Nice.

  • i play alto tenor and bari sax and this song kiks azz

  • luvd it

alto sax soloist is greatly skilled

i arranged the quartet after i heard it

i probs wont sound as good though lol

  • Awesome ending!

  • and boy was your solo incredible. sick dude!

  • awesome but it seems like that giant woul dbe playing the bari not the smaller guy lol. he still rocked it hard tho

  • nice!

  • Sound's good, Hard Bop sax quartet is the name of the group? it sound contemporary to me...

  • woo! if this is hardbop jazz then i wanna hear more!

  • Wow, that sounds fckn cool!

  • funny how the the lead alto guy is the onlny one 'moving with the groove' the others look a bit stiff, but still sound amazing

  • Loved the performance, it made you want to get up and dance!

  • Nice stuff. Keep it comin'.

  • wow that f**king rocks...!!!! great music

  • what note is that at the end!!! ultra high! classic!

  • ALT D

  • @GeneralDAS i typed it and THEN saw someone already replied. lol my bad

  • @musicmad02 its an altissimo D

    . . . great stuff

  • @musicmad02 thats a really high D

  • @musicmad02 It's a D

  • @musicmad02 D. Altissimo D. Holy shit.

  • this is time 8.. and one half... of me watching this vid.

    lovin that lead alto

  • the audience sucks i would have stood up, at least!

  • @depierreaja i wudda threw my boxers hahahahahaha

  • @depierreaja well it sounds kind of too harmonic as "hard-bop", they play with note sheets and it's slow...check that band: /watch?v=jiHQT84OJAw ...i mean wow alone the intro! This show here is nothing against that one...and really the audience clapped what do you want more for something like this? xD

  • hmm.. i wonder what mouthpiece the solo alto uses.. I'd like to get that sound. the one i use now is the school's lakey. It makes the higher octave overtones really obnoxious

  • hmm... i wish i had seen the reply option before i commented on your profile lol

  • Its a Jumbo Java, not sure on the size but mines an A75. And to the guy below you obviously have no idea what a good mouthpiece can do for your sound!

  • woW...amazing!!!

  • Oh come on audience, they deserved more applause than that!!

  • agreed

  • very good, this alto gives me the tingles specially on those high notes :o

  • Huh.. i am just eating my icecream with too much cream on it..delicious....so they play

  • i cannot get over how awesome this video is. they are all so good. alto solo was amazing.

  • wow

  • Lol nice Gerald Albright at the end.

Alto player was fye but the whole ensemble had such great blend. Good job.

  • I get goosebumps every time i listen to this.. they are good, and that alto player has amazing altissimo tone.

  • i get goosebumps too. its amazing

  • wonderful alto sounds. i dont understand why people say bright sound is bad for alto.

  • these guys keep such great time

especially considering they dont have a drummer.

    keep it up

  • This group is one of the best on the planets; always a pleasure to watch and learn.

  • Excellent, and very professional !! :)

  • where do you find music for this-?

  • Email Russel peterson. You can buy it from him. I did and it is GREAT!

  • nastyyyy

  • bkn

  • Great blend and intonation. You guys were tight! I'm a classically trained saxophonist, but definitely enjoyed this!

  • I feel like the lead alto is having a lot more fun than everyone else.

  • what kind of mouthpiece reed setup is he lead alto player using???????

  • Vandoren A-55 mouthpiece with a Rico Plastic cover 3 1/2 reed.

  • Hey, any way I can get this music for my quartet? Much appreciated.

  • lol we can only wonder.

  • does a light mouthpiece with a hard reed make it easier to play harmonics?

  • awesome solo!

  • I love saxophones. If I were a music teacher, I am sure I would have to give these gies an A + !!!

  • The lead sax is having way too much fun.

  • lol, that's not a bad thing but see what you mean. But he plays really well, maybe that's needed for his performance.

    This rocks!

  • Lol, not at all. If you can't get into what you're playing, you might as well hang it up.

  • Any idea what the bari player is using for reeds?

  • Reeds? rofl What dyu mean? What type of reeds?

  • The reed going in the mouth piece and is what makes the sound ...

  • Is the solo in this improv, or is it written?

I'm guessing it was improv, lol.

  • doe's anybody recommend me buying a claude lakey hard rubber for my tenor? i have a berg larsen 120 but im not too happy with it

  • meyer makes fantastic hard rubbers, i played on one in highschool with a mark6 tenor and it was amazing. i could easily play subtone (even on crappy horns) and altissimo was clear. great mouthpiece

  • I purchased a Jody Jazz MP about 6 months ago. I LOVE IT!!!!

  • I watch this and think "Why am I even bothering going to music college" haha

  • wow thats great =)=)=)

  • wow they're awesome i would really love to learn the alto and baro sax its been on my mind alot lately

  • You can buy the music from Russel Peterson. I did. It is great!

  • Yeah, He messaged me about it and told me I could buy the chart. Tell me, is that solo written, or is it all improv?

  • Improv

  • OH YEAH!!!

  • Is the lead alto blowing on a beechler?

  • GREAT!!

  • brilliant right from the start!

  • nice

  • Very nice!!! May i ask what the AS is playing on mouthpiece

  • I love the bari in this one as well. Such simple lines made to sound so great. Just awsome.

  • Don't be amazed simply by the alto.. it's brilliat , but all the band it's awesome too..

  • omg, that alto was on fire!! xD :D

  • u guy's r amazing!!! Love the alto sax solo!!! I also like the baritone sax sound! Is there a make a bari any1 could recommend??? I really want 2 get 1.

    :)

  • get a yanagisawa 992 bari

  • i play a selmer MK6

im pretty happy with what i have, do you actually play a 992?

  • You're not going to immediately sound like him. Getting such a full and robust tone comes with practice, practice, and practice. Long tones like a mad man, and just general feel for the horn and a connection between player and equipment.

Good luck, and I adore the hard bop. Great players, great musicians, great...people.

  • it isn't loading...

  • omg...im amazed...that one who played alto was great.....

  • well i feel like a failure...

    that was amazing!

  • Sou brasileiro, sirvo ao Senhor nosso Deus e estou simplesmente maravilhado com a performance dos meus irmãos. Gostaria de vê-los tocando pessoalmente. Que Deus os abençoe..Jorge escreveu em 30jan2008

  • Nice! Loved it!

  • These guys are even better live. I've also had the chance to work with the two alto players, and they're as good as they come.

  • Who's the alto player, he did an amazing job

  • absolutely stunning!

  • amazing!

  • I'd love to get this arrangement for my quartet to play

  • I liked it. They worked together, as a quartet should.

  • Wow I say what OTHER PEOPLE THINK and people think I'm an idiot! I love playing tenor and I love its voice. I was just saying that I would like to see a song like this with them working hand in hand in a solo, while the tenor and bari are mostly in the background. Lol sorry if I confused some people!

  • I love his voicing on the alto! I play tenor and many people think tenor can't go high, and many think it can't do good leads. I want to see a video like this with the alto and tenor player working hand and hand, not just playing together in a solo.

  • Actually, the tenor is easier to do overtones (therefore leading to altissimo) on than alto and soprano. Basically, the smaller the harder.

  • it's not true, with imagination, you can write a piece where the baritone sax lead.

  • Dude are you kidding me. Tenor sounds better for a lead than alto does as long as you're not dumb and know how to play one..

  • if one plays well it is not important if he/she plays soprano, alto, tenor or bari

  • funky guys. Great job. Nice sound on the lead alto

  • THAT WAS FANTASTIC!

  • that was the hippest thing ever! man that was the most killer sound since charlie parker

  • most epic plagal cadence ever

  • haha yeah

tottaly agree! alto guy is a genius!

  • "amen" to that...haha

  • "amen" to that...haha

  • WOW you guys are awesome!! Thanks for comin to our school and playing for us.And by the way "Frankenstein" is the best band director ever and he could kick your butt on any instrument any day. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it for a while.

  • alto-guy know what sax is all about.

  • quecuelguen mas tenas de este gran cuarteto por favor. fantastico

  • that alto is on fire!!!

  • great sax work very good indeed

  • All i can say is AWESOME!!!!!

  • you guys are great - I love your sound!

  • lol. the tenor looks like frankenstein....

  • Amazing Playing by the alto player and the quatet Simply Amazing.Keep it up dude

  • Just spectacular!

  • damn thats good!!!! I want an arrangement!!!!

  • holy crap

  • the lead's definitely a great player but yeah those aren't "jazz" chops it's rock-n-roll/funky/gospel chops. Great on flash not too enough on substance...but that's great entertainment!! lol

  • Hey jazz jedi:

I see who your influences are: No wonder you like this guys playing. You wouldn't know jazz or a good jazz player if he walked up and hit you in the "cod bag"

  • Jazzgunn

The only one blowing bullshit is you. I happen to know Russ listens to Phil Woods all the time and knows way more about his playing than you pretend to. I don't get why you find it necessary to stoop to this form of adolescent cyber-bullying. I understand that if someone posts on youtube that they are open to any criticism. But you are just commenting to be a jerk. Be constructive. It will get you further in life than listening to your Phil Woods albums in your parent's basement.

  • Enough said is right. So don't say anymore. I bet your one of those jazz educators, like Russ is. Listen to him play and really listen. He can't decide if he is a jazz player or a rock and roller and the D minor piece that he playing is both simple and dumb sounding. I want to hear him on "Body and Soul" or Rhythm changes or just the good old blues and so what he says, rather than that educator jazz I hear. Give me a break.

  • The leads altissimo is awsome.

  • Hey Russ:

Ever hear how much Phil Woods goes into the altissimo as compared to you? You play more up there on one tune than he has in his entire musical life. Difference is: he says something where you are blowing a bunch of bullshit. PLay some good notes and melodies will you otherwise it sounds like another classical saxophonist trying to play jazz.

  • I disagree with you 100%. The song sounds great, and the solo definately adds excitement and meaning to it. Enough said.

  • Good god, I love you guys :D.

  • AMAZING sound guys!!!! You guys rock. Keep up the awesome work guys. *SAX PRIDE*

    ~Mindy (Tenor and Bari)

  • hey russ, who are your influences on sax?

  • My wife said "We could dance to this if you knew how to dance." Thanks a lot Dr. Patnode.

  • that is so bloody awesome

  • This song is SO fucking awesome. I listen to it like everyday because the lead alto is insane.

  • Holy shit clinton, it really is fucking amazing lol. Great stuff guys!

  • These guys are great. I just bought their CD yesterday, and also had the privilege of working with Dr. Patnode in master classes at IMC. I also got to see Russ Peterson perform their as well a few times.

  • Not only is Russell Peterson, the lead alto, an amazing sax player, but he is genuinely a great guy. I had the pleasure of learning from him for two weeks at the International Music Camp. The guy's a genius. The other alto player also teaches there, but I never had any lessons with him.

  • my sister hates the saxophone but when i had her listen to this she fell in love with the sound! haha this is my absolute favorite sax group of ALL TIME! if gerry mulligan, charlie parker, and jeff coffin were to make a jazz trio, it wouldnt sound this good!

  • u guys r amazing!!!

    what saxophone's do you use?

    what makes?

    I love your sound

    :)

  • mk vi alto(s) and possibly tenor and yani baritone i think

  • very nice overall sound. and the solos were very well thought out. awesome job. keep it up.

  • very nice !

  • good

  • nice

  • is that solo improvised

  • dumb question,

  • good stuff....i hope that i can get as good as that one day....i play for my church too...yea man

  • That was great!

    have you got a CD?!

  • fargostuff<dot>com
