Also, the Persians didn't really interfere with the conquered, things were the same before, just a unified identity. @horselips Well, actually the Greeks started the Greco-Persian Wars by aiding Ionian Revolts against the Persian Empire, and I don't think anyone would let that pass. Also, the Persians didn't really interfere with the conquered, things were the same before, just a unified identity. The Romans were also encroaching on Parthian/Sassanid territory, and constantly being a nuisance as well. And, the Persians were forced into Islam through persecution. But I agree wholly about the mullahs.

The Spartans and other Greeks at the Hot Gates, and then Alexander, who was also Greek. Macedonia is Greek. "The Greek Neolithic Culture spread northwards to Macedonia." -Greek Religion, by Walter Burkert, page 11. The very early Hellenes colonized Macedonia. But even that still doesn't mean anything because Persia invaded greece afterall until Phillip II and then Alexander the Great (half Illyrian/ Albanian) pushed the Persians back and ultimately destroyed the Persian Empire!

The source I gave was from Walter Burkert, an expert on the ancient Greek religion and the society around it. The very early Greeks, by obvious accounts, populated and spread their culture to what is now Macedonia. The fact that Macedonia clearly broke off and made its own culture is irrelevant. The bottomline is that Greece founded them. Taking a Western Civ class doesn't mean you know all.

@onmygoldenwings. That's not true. You speak as if the Persians took parts of Greece and held them. They did not. Even when the Persians took something, they were eventually beaten back. Xerxes included. They lost all 3 of their wars against Greece. To deny this in the face of history is just absurd and borderline insanity. The war you are referring to was the 2nd war, coming from Thermopylae. Athens was captured and burned, but the Persians were eventually kicked out and beaten back.

@onmygoldenwings No credible Classical Historian will agree that Persia ever conquered Greece. If they had, they would have continued to spread their influence on into Western Europe. Persia wanted this, but they were unable to get through Greece. After Thermopyale and war surrounding it. Persia retreated and left Greece alone basically, but then Alexander came and invaded Persia, conquering it and actually holding it until his death when it was then divided among his generals
