I mean, I wouldn't have a problem with the guy if he wasn't such a public gimmick. Look at him in this video - he's laughing, waving his hands, running around. No mayor in the past would ever have behaved like that. I just wish he'd stop trying to be so 'funny'. I hate this whole 'John So, he's my bro' thing...it honestly makes me sick. He's not a comedian - he's a mayor.
Disrespectful? No. I just think that he makes a mockery of his position by over-publicizing himself, turning up at big public events in Melbourne, and finally by adopting his exaggerated foreign accent just to try and get a few laughs. He's lived here for over 7 years - I've heard that his accent is nowhere near as thick as he lets off. I've got a bit of a problem with people like that.
And do you know what? My point wasn't even about him doing his job properly, I didn't even mention that in my initial arguement. REGARDLESS of wether he is the longest serving Mayor, REGARDLESS of wether he is doing a superb job or not, he is overly publicised and promoted by the media, he's a show pony, and ONLY because he can barely speak the language properly, despite living in Australia since he was 17.
Furthermore, where's your evidence that John So is doing his job as he is supposed to? The Mayor position is a PART TIME position, yet John So has become a stupid little celebrity for rediculous reasons, such as talk back radio hosts on 3AW mocking him - this was NEVER what the Mayor job involved.
I don't know how many times I have to say this - leave your obsessive, paranoid political corectness out of this. You continuously claim that I'm a 'bigot', yet you have absolutely no evidence to support that - you're the kind of person you can't have a normal conversation with without accidently offending seven different races, 3 of which you didn't even know existed.
Furthermore, you've made a rediculous and unlearned assumption in saying that I am 'racist' or a 'neo-nazi', purely because I don't like someone who happens to be asian. Maybe if you put down your banner for a minute you'd realise your little political correctness paranoia is a blatant crock of shit, you fear-mongering, conspiracy theory little shit. Stop wasting my time.
This then leads me to my next point - John So is not, as you seem to think, 'so damn good at his job'. AND he's a gimmicky little cartoon character. I'd prefer to have someone that does their job properly and turns up to meetings and stays out of public than some attention-whore little gimmick character who spends all his time at charity events when he should be making decisions.
First of all, I did not understand what you were trying to say in your little introduction, though I'm assuming it was an attempted insult.
Secondly, if you had your facts right, you'd know that John So's contemporaries are as frustrated with him as I am, on the count of him not doing his job properly. Ever since he made this comfortable little niche with the public, he hasn't even been turning up to meetings.
Haha, believe me, I'm no fan of Australians that adopt trendy little grammatical errors either. I just find it offensive that this guy is making a mockery of this country, and these fools all love him because he's a stereotype. The main reason I resent him is because he's the mayor, a very important role, and yet he's worshipped almost like some kind of rediculous foreigner cartoon character. You wouldn't see some white guy in a position in Singapore, should the roles be reversed.
It's great that Melbourne is multicultural, I'm behind that 100 percent, but there are limits. For example, if I can't understand what our mayor is saying half the time because he hasn't even fully grasped the language properly, that's a pretty clear indication that Australia is not a multi-cultural country, so much as it is one big cluster of every other countries bits and pieces.
If the best arguement you have against what I said is a stupid little trendy msn acronym followed by a rash generalisation and a meaningless vulgarity, then in future, don't bother saying it at all. If anything, it only serves to prove me right, as it highlights your absence of anything to say with actual substance or a legitimate arguement. Shouldn't you be waving a sign at an activist rally somewhere with your hair died purple?
I don't understand why acting ignorant, naive, and oblivious to Western culture (and pretending to not even attempt at grasping the English language properly) can in any way be considered cute, or appealing in any way, especially when the subject is in an important position in a WESTERN COUNTRY. No one that behaves like this - so disrespectful towards Western culture and the English language - should be allowed into any important position whatsoever.
How the Phuque did that zip head get to be even IN Australia let alone be Mayor of Melbourne. No wonder the place is going to the 'dogs' !.
