  • i just got my first guitar and i'm trying to learn this song

    fucken love it

  • @HateHumanity It sounds pretty simple, good luck with that.

  • @HateHumanity Make us proud dude. \m/

  • Not sure why but this reminds me of faith no more

  • i feel sorry for anyone who will never listen to DTP

  • goddamn!!!

  • BE A GOD DAMN MAAAAAN BOOOOOOY!

  • This song is the epitome of built up anger, i feel my inner hulk twitch whilst listening to this >=@

  • wht, WHY Devin doesn't collaborate with mike patton or maynard james keenan???

  • This is heavy as all hell.

  • Heaviest clean song ever. EVER.

  • @BioGeometric066 I just realized after really going through the song that there's no distortion.

  • @megaterra69 Well at least until half way through.

  • This song grew on me. Didn't like it all that much at first, but musically it is amazing, Builds tension in all the right places

  • is that mike patton?

  • The perfect song to get your energies really pumped up before some high intensity doing.

Always brings to my mind this one interview where Devin told about making Ki. He couldn't play any loud music because of his little child so he was stuck angry-silently strumming his guitar in the living room and muttering "You bastard.... Goddamn fuck..." under his breath. This song just brings out that side out of the album perfectly.

  • What a groove and intensity! a bit similar to Heaven Send and Gato in a way!

  • 5:50.... IS THAT AN EGG ROLL??

  • Amazing. Just heard this for the very first time. In 5 minutes, I'll have this and a few other Devin Townsend Project albums ordered.

This was very, very surprising and refreshing after all the crap on the radio.

  • devin + skinny puppy: ultimate vancouver noise!!

  • Devin Townsend is one of the most original and unique artists out there. You don't even have to like the music to appreciate that. I have a mixed reaction listening to this album to be honest, but it's uniqueness is mindblowing.

  • Devin Townsend - Guitar, vocal, rhythm composer

John Petrucci - Guitar, lead composer

    Alex Webster - Lead bass

    Tomasz Wróblewski - Rhythm bass

    Tim Yeung - Drums

    Joe Nunez - Percussion

Rob Swire - DJ, synth, clean vocals

That setup in a band would kick so hard ass!

  • @eliten0Ob That'd be pretty sweet though I'd rather Townsend as the lead composer.

  • @Maddolis Rhythm and lead composer refers to that Devin should write the main riffs and rhythm guitar parts, while Petrucci writes the solos, harmonics and leads. They both alternates between lead and rhythm duty. :P

  • @eliten0Ob I'd just keep Devin Townsend to do everything, but have Gene Hoglan on Drums. If it aint broke, don't fix it!!

  • @eliten0Ob Rob Swire?! Bahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

    Baaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @RepusDuts I wouldn't be suprised if Rob Swire and the Dev do a collab. They're good friends.

  • @eliten0Ob Yeah Idk about Petrucci doing anything over Townsend. Used to think he was good but meh, Dream Theater was kind of a high school phase for me. Townsend is something to hang onto for life,

  • @AkemiMusic01

They're both amazing guitar players, but Townsend is just on another level entirely when it comes to songwriting.

  • I blew the speakers in my car out listening to this song.

  • I get to see this guy live tonight!!! Should be epic. I hope he plays this song cause I love it.

  • Another Gem of artistic brilliance !!

  • @InquisitorCorteaz THAT'S FUNNY, because addicted ended up being one of his LEAST BRUTAL albums, and deconstruction is gonna be experimental and a musical.

Also, everything Devin has done since has been better than SYL.

  • @parade it was less brutal, because hes putting the brutalone out last, after he does destruction

  • I listen to all his stuff religiously. Even Physicist, granted not nearly as much as the others. That being said, this is actually my favorite album of his right now. It's weird, yes, but that's why it's great. You give it enough listens and you start to understand and fall in love with its twisted eeriness.

Musicians that aren't afraid to try new and strange things are the real geniuses if you ask me. Dev never has been and that's why I love him. :)

  • Great Song!!!

  • saw he live.....hw fuckin' kicked asses!!!!!

    a geniuos

  • nah dude... Ki is an amazing album in itself, I doubt Dev considers it just a "warmup"... it may be different from most of his stuff, but it's excellent... just because it's not classic Dev/SYL style does not mean it's just some bullshit Dev spewed out to hold us over til the next few albums...

  • love the progession of this...so maniacal in its waysXD

  • BTBAM = Between the buried and me.

THIS MUSIC IS FUCKING EPIC..... GOD DAMN I LOVE IT.

  • FINALLY I HAVE A FOUND A NEW ALBUM THAT MEETS MY LISTENER DEMANDS!!!!!!

    this stuff is so orig.

  • sorry if i sound like a t!t, but who is BTBAM?

  • @vonPickles Hah believe me, you're anything but a tit if you don't know who they are.

  • This song is absolutely phenomenal live.

  • Over, you don't know how bad I wish they would have came closer than a 4 hour drive to Vegas.

  • saw this guy open up for BTBAM. this was his opening song.. heavy as fuck. he puts on a very entertaining show. and plays good music

  • ah now I remember :D! I just wasn't able to know what was his opening song!

But it was more intense on stage...less calm

  • Mike Patton is actually my favorite vocalist of all time, so I cannot comment without excess amounts of swearing.

  • dev and patton have been my idols for most of my life and i don't think either is better they are both genius just in different lights i love this song btw it seems to have come along at a time in my life when it was truly needed... thank you dev

  • Love this album , awesome stuff and the best from Dev in years. Easily his best since the epic biomech album which is still my favourite album of all time

  • I know it's just your opinion and all but I myself would be very insulted if I were Devin to hear you calling this his second only to Biomech. Infinity and Terria were leagues better than this. This album is

  • and Synchestra. Don't forget synchestra...

  • Anyone know what makes the sound which appears at around 22-23 seconds into the song? Sorta sounds like a damp fart!lol

Just got this album and I rank it up with his best work! Awesome stuff!

  • He's raking the strings while muting them with his hand.

  • right on thanks!

  • @frippsfruition ..it's the floor tom with the kick drums..I was there in the studio.

  • ok fucker il but ki lol

  • I don't think Mike Patton is terrible, I just think he's reached a higher plane of musical understanding than anyone else. While I don't like his music I can still have mad respect for his creativity. I'll probably end up liking his music after a while anyway.

  • Listen to Delirivm Cordia in a dark room, with head phones on, I dare thee.

If you don't like it mad, at least it will send you mad.

  • You're ignorant as hell if you think Mike Patton is terrible. You may not like him, but that's just your taste. I don't like Yanni, but I'd never say he's terrible. That would be stupid.

  • "Somebody get me alone, I need to feel at home

    I need a brain massage"

    i love devin

  • somebody get me alone

i need to feel at home

    i need a brainmassage!

    somebody get me a docter

    i am feeling ill

but i ain´ t feeling this at all!

    No!

da da da da da da

    i come from the!

center for the universe! genius! :P

  • smooth, build, fade, build fade. This whole album Dev just makes a wicked ambient flow. one of the best concept albums of the last decade. Its really him exercising control over his music which is much different than SYL which was about unleashing. As a musician this is true progression in his music, and he doesn't let nostalgia get the best of him. Love it Ki is aptly named

  • this is just god making music once again!

  • all these songs are structured the same on the Ki album. mind that they all sound amazing and send you into a personal nirvana, it's hard for me to remember which song i like better because they are so similar in sound.

  • Beginning reminds me of the music from the first two Doom games mixed with Mike Patton.

  • Gosh ... Unlike Cannibal corpse, Devin never dissapoints

  • Cannibal corpse can do nothing else if you ever expected anything from them! lol!

Wicked album from what I have heard so far!

  • BE A MAAAAAAAAAN

  • I've just listened to this song and a few others from Ki for the first time and theres no doubt it's amazing musically but am I the only one who feels like it lacks the energy of songs like Almost Again, Love? and Bastard? Maybe it will grow on me more if i hear it more.

  • It doesn't lack energy, it seems to me that it's brimming with it. It's a very different kind of energy than those tunes, mind you. I know what you're saying.

  • It will grow. Thought the same first time i heard it. Cheers

  • i want to get signed by Hevy Devy Records just to work with devin

  • Musically this might be a quite controversial album. But I think it's brilliant all the way.

  • Comment removed

  • fascinating how he builds up the tension - but it doesn't culminate in heavy metal riffs - it just implodes...

  • this song reminds me of a mature Bad Devil.

  • If Devin and I made children, they would be half-balding gods and goddesses of metal.

    Just saying.

  • And what will that child inherit from you? :)

  • The way he sings this reminds me of Mike Patton on some Tomahawk albums

  • Tomahawk was exactly what came to mind when I head this too, but in a good way :)

  • HOLY SHIT. you're not kidding!

  • All I need to hear is a collaboration between Mike Patton and Devin Townsend.... and I can die happy.

  • ooohh man, you're soo right! probably the best collaboration ever.. I would die too after!

  • FUCK YEAH. Great collaboration.

  • @lupine73 its got to be just a matter of time.

  • @lupine73 I want to see a supergroup with Devin Townsend, Mike Patton, Dave Mustaine and Buckethead.

That would be the sexiest thing that ever happened ever.

  • @Seligsuper i disagree. i mean yeah they are all great musicians, but i don't think it would work out with such vastly different styles all trying to work together.

  • @Seligsuper That probably wouldn't end up good at all.

  • @lupine73 That would be perfect

  • @lupine73

Wow that would be a dream come true man, we can only hope that one day it will happen...

  • Devin Townsend is a good start :) Or I dunno...as a teenager my friends and i called it "white metal" or spiritual metal.

  • metal is a very spiritual music, at least most good metal is

  • ive heard SYL and loved it, now im listening to his solo career, its awesome, so chilling.

what would this style of music be classed as?

  • Devin covers many different styles of music, often within the confines of the same song.

Devin pretty much IS a genre on his own :D

  • genius

  • couldnt agree more

  • yeah cool it seems like a song tarantino would use in his films.

  • Great song. Great album. Love it.

  • AMAZING song... DAMN!

  • All his songs have deep meaning, this one in particular spoke to me.....

    3 more days.....3 more days......3 more days....!!!!!

  • The Chosen one has returned!

    Absolutely mindblowing.

  • Devin Townsend is a fucking GENIUS.

  • I'm gonna remain a Ki virgin till the 25th =)

  • but yet your on the videos.....you have listened havent you admit it :P

  • Hahah yeah, he's like god... or something. :P

  • Hi IS GOD!

  • Why couldent people just fucking wait till May 25...

    fuckin' leaks

  • Wait? What does that mean?

  • i accidentally rated this 2 stars buggar 5 stars!

  • ONE MONTH FROM NOW :D

  • Where did you get this leak?

  • Remember that Disruptr, as with all of Ki, is just a warm up. if you like the heavy side of Devin like SYL or ZTO, wait for Addicted or Deconstruction. It will get heavier and a lot more brutal with those 2 releases later this year.

  • @InquisitorCorteaz Except that Addicted wasn't heavy or brutal, it was more pop influenced

  • @InquisitorCorteaz can't wait for Z2

  • @InquisitorCorteaz though Addicted didn't prove to be much heavier.

  • @jambii Deconstruction is gonna be the one!

  • Not sure how I feel about this. It's not grabbing me yet, but maybe in time it will. I normally love all of Devin's stuff, but this might take a little getting used to.

  • I was the same with a few songs on Ki. Not sure about you, but for me, when a song has to grow on me, it typically ends up becoming one of my all-time favorites. I'm happy to report that a lot of Devin's work took time to grow on me.

  • anyone who cant get into this is shallow and doesnt know what true music is, Devin Townsend is a true innovator of metal and my main influence in basically everything i do

  • shallow? whatever man. that's a B.S. statement, and I even liked the song. Those who don't like it probably don't like the "odd" tuning or growly vocals.

  • Man I'm excited for this to come out, I already pre-ordered it on Amazon and yes, I know it's available for download.

  • Metal isn't everything. I think this is incredible. Truly epic and beautiful.

    Definately buying this.

  • If you go to the devin townsend myspace, and read the interview you will realise that this is just an introductory album, as the second and third albums will be much heavier, the third (deconstruction) will be 'the heaviest music hes ever made'. fear not fellow metalhead
