  • Who needs who, when and what the hell for?

Who wants to suffer and be hardcore?

And who's strong enough to peel off the dead skin...

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I'VE EVER HEARD......PERIOD!!!

  • So much lyrics O.o Typical Tony and his amasing lyrics :b

  • ouch, so epic O_o

  • If you are here to critisize this band GTFO your not famous or have abything STFU and enjoy the metal man

  • Their lyrics are always so wonderful, not that mainstream shit you see nowadays, Sonata Arctica are the best band ever, every album is awesome

  • This is just as awesome as White Pearl Black Oceans... one of their best!!! and they have a LOT!!!!!

  • fraquinho ....

  • I think this is the best album yet

  • this song is sonata Arctica !!! yeah !!

  • i can only say: i love it !

  • i don't like the "i´m protected" line.... but the song is amazing !! (very)

  • muy buena la canción si las siguientes son iguales serian muy buenos discos

  • destroying lyrics. I can't believe he feels this way. I tought he could give our love a chance, but he doesn't. I hate my heart. It's so weak. another unheald, infected wound..

  • the last 2 minutes of this song are jsut awesome, the whole song is a masterpiece

  • With this album(song) you can see how muscial mature Sonata has come. This song for example is complexer and has way more elements than Dream Theaters Glass Prision. Sonata is a all around band.

  • I love the line :if loves the neck that kept us together and apart. - magnificent!

  • I love their new more Progressive style as much as their old works or even more, some fans are just stupid nd lame asses.

  • @skred8 100% agree

  • the moment from 2:37 to 3:19 is so terrific!

  • @frederikkoeppe in a good way, yes

  • My rating:

    3/5

  • Comment removed

  • 3 people are not strong enough to peel of the dead skin

  • Tony Kakko outdid himself on this one. The song is near perfection and the lyrics is pure genius!

    "Unprotected, one torso, no head

One valid reason, the life's suspended

If love's the neck that kept us together, and apart...

    Now it's broken..."

only a God can come up with that!.....Sonata Arcticism ftw xD

  • Since Elias came to the band they sound more melodic than before.. focus on guitar... Janis was more "progressive-power" but i love this damn guitar! especially the solo!

  • MY NEW FAVORITE SONG!!! GOTTA SAY THAT THE DAYS OF GRAYS IS WITHOUT ANY DOUPT THEIR BEST ALBUM SO FAR!

  • @Supersomonerandom If this is the one with Flag In The Ground then i would agree.

  • @XVmercylessVX Yes, it is

  • "who nneds who? when, and what the hell for

who wants to suffer and be hardcore" i dunno what it means but its awesome

  • @aprenticeOFdarkness Who will be the first to admit that the relationship isn't built on love anymore, it's built on being used to each other's presence and who will break that up despite it being extremely fucking hurtful.

This is what that means. At least for me. YMMV.

  • The new style Is fine, there are really great songs in this album and Unia.

However, I´d like to listen a combination between the new and the old style in a future album. That would be amazing.

By the way, anyone besides me thinks that this song is the best of this album?

All the power and the melody in one!

  • 5:15 - 5:36... Epic lyrics. One of their best.

If love's the neck that kept us together, and apart...

    Now it's broken...

There's no cast, no real solution

When it is broken, it will stay that way

  • The new style is nice, although I do prefer their old sound. I will however keep being a fan of Sonata Arctica even if they turn to pop, since they were the ones who introduced me to metal, and I love Tony's voice.

    1:58 - 3:00 is my favorite part.

  • nice guitar at 2:40

  • this is the music !!!!!!!!! JUSTIN BEEBER SUCKS !!!!METAL IS THE BEST!!!!

  • damn, anybody knows what's the tune of the guitar in this album, or at least, in this song?

is elias using a 7 strings guitar?

    thanks :)

  • I FUCKING LOVE THAT LYRIC!

what the hell have tony kakko on his mind?!

i dont know. but i love it.

  • @Ziincito a fading relationship that should have ended but hasnt so far. at least thats what he said b4 playing that song live. where he btw messed up the lyrics, but was fun nevertheless. :D

  • @Ziincito I guess he is ending (or has VERY recently ended) a relationship which was already failing, but the girl didn't end it. At least that's how I interpreted it. Possibly because I was through this when I first listened to this song, but still, I guess that's close to the original meaning.

  • I'm SO in love with this song.

    It's a masterpiece.

  • Who needs who, when and what the hell for?

Who wants to suffer and be hardcore?

And who's strong enough to peel off the dead skin...

    God damn, viva la sonata.

  • The best Band ever the new album is really great

  • They played this live yesterday.

  • Great song!

  • Reading through the comments, I had to remember that this was Sonata Arctica and not Nightwish, seeing all the old VS. new fights.

This is Tony Kakko's style choice, and its more in line with what he wanted originally. I can hear more of his influences in this album than I can the earlier ones, and he'd complained about that himself.

Still no Reckoning Night, but this album is a close second, and has some of my favorite songs, Dead Skin included. And way better than Unia.

  • Absolutly amazing, the voice, the lyrics, the guitars...

Without any doubt one of my favourite songs.

  • 5:03 - 5:54 I love how he just sings without any pauses.

  • yaya

  • @BlueBajs Even though there are pauses... What song are you listening to...

Saw these live at Bloodstock the other day, they were amazing :D

  • @dannyfreeman11 I don't think you get it..

  • @BlueBajs there are little pauses in between them, it's not physically impossible to sing along.

  • 5:41 - 6:14 is just amazing...

  • I agree :)

  • love this part 2:39

  • Lol I look at everyone arguing and I am made whole.

Days of Grays was out when I first heard Sonata (Black Sheep at the end of an unrelated AMV) and then recently bought Unia, listened to it, then picked up Days of Grays, and so on and so forth. I live in the US so I don't have access to the albums before sake of revenge, though. I like getting music on CD, before anyone suggests digital downloads. I have unreliable hard drives on my music computer.

  • Sonata Arctica are still my favorite band.

First time I listened I thought wtf is that?!

Then I listened twice...and again and again and know I love it.

Sonata are trying something new and i like it.

The lyrics is so awesome...thats why I love them.

    And Tony's voice xD

  • yes it`s true that new sonata isn`t Power metal it`s like Progressive/power metal now but i really like this new sonata too and this is more complex than old one ^^

  • @elamaon23 I like this album, but i disagree with the not power metal point. The album it reminds me of is Dragonland's Holy War- an almost pure power metal album. Listen to "A Thousand Points of Light" if you don't see my point.

  • Just something I'd like to throw out there, I would say that their style really started to change at Reckoning Night, and that album has received the highest scores by professional music critics, Days of Grays comes second. Ecliptica-Winterheart got pretty bad reviews.

The reviews are getting higher, all I'm trying to say.

  • The older ones got lower review because their sound up till WHG was pretty much that of a Stratovarius clone. It had been done before.

  • I don't agree with you nalkainen, when i listen to this song i still hear Sonata Arctica. The difference is not that big. They still have the same genre, only the sub-genre is slowly changing.. Perhaps just because of Elias.

If you realy listen to this song, the setting, and the sound of it, you could say it would fit perfectly in extention to "Silence" but then with some trash-metal influences.

While if britney suddenly made Deathmetal, it wouldnt ever sound like anything she'd ever make.

  • hey i know what you say about the band evolving is a great thing , but its not. how can it be a great thing if you dont like the change. i wont listen to sa for the sake of it. ill only listen if enjoy it. all theyre past albums were power metal and sorry if u dissagree but, this is not power metal. how many people would still like britney if she became death metal ? no one of her past fans . the genre of music is changing or evolving as you say, in this case evolving is a bad thing.

  • This new sound is tony's own choice. It was never his intension to even let his music be power metal, he even hated it a little bit. And now he is writing what he thinks to give him pleasure.

If the fans don't like it, it's not his problem, he enjoys the music he makes, and if others can't well just so be it.

It's his music and he is not going to let his fun being influenced by fans.

He said this in an interview once, about the album unia. I agree, you need to play for your own fun

  • @Weerwolfboy If you don't play for fun, your music becomes repetitive and boring. And soulless. Sonata's music has always been anything BUT repetitive, boring or soulless.

  • @Weerwolfboy It's called not being a sellout. :)

  • @Weerwolfboy

That is the exact deal. But also, if people don't like the music SA plays today, they have listened to it because of power metal. It is seriously marvelous to listen to SA because of SA:s OWN STYLE!

  • @Weerwolfboy That's total bullshit. Sonata Arctica were playing true power metal since they were named Tricky Means, and formerly Tricky Beans. Have you not listened to any of their pre-Sonata demo recordings? It's unmistakably power metal. After producing three highly influential power albums, the transition towards prog metal began with Reckoning Night. I have never heard Tony say that he hates power metal, only that he began to hate playing their old songs, and has grown weary of fast music.

  • @ROONTANG If you posted this 2 years ago, I could give you the link of the interview where he said that.

And no band is playing true power metal, it's all melodic/symphonic or something with power metal written behind it.

  • Haha, Sonata hasn't changed NEARLY as much as if britney became death metal. It's a huuuuuge difference and shouldn't be compared at all. Too bad for you if you don't like the new Sonata, but they're still awesome, just different. You just don't like it. Change is a good thing if one likes the change.

  • I feel there still is the ''atmosphere'' of sonata arctica in this new album. Tony is always really good but I also feel something is missing. The guitar is almost absent. Jani's style is missing.. and the texture to the sound is missing too sadly. Yes, it's still sonata, still good.. but .. less than what I expected from this spectacular group.

  • this is one of the best of this album. i think when people say that SA has changed... I think those are still stucked to the fullmoon. little bit understanding plz.

  • sonata artica seem to be really shit these days , whats going on there is somthing missing. it doesnt sound like sonata artica . they re invented theyre style into light metal. maybe rock. bland rock and unmelodic. i cant take anymore if this crap. i have tried so hard to stick with sa but i cant do it anymore. this new music doesnt please me at all. infact i really miss jani, infact thinking about it, hes whats missing. im dropping out of being a fan, anyways elias is such a dip shit.

  • Knowing that Jani only composed "my selene" for SA... HUM HUM.

If SA is changing, it's because of Tony. Not Jani nor Elias.

So... Stop saying craps of shit, please?

Anyway, this song is fucking great.

  • Man... shut up or at least use your brain before saying anything. Sonata Arctica is a band that, unlike others comun power metal bands, is evoluing, that is amazing because it proves that they are real musicians, and they don't need a "power metal overrated formula" to be great, if you don't like it, say that you don't, but saying that the band is a really shit these days, it's a sin.

  • If you don't like it that's fine, I thought the same when they released this album. But I was at their concert in amsterdam (yes I'm dutch) last thursday, and now I'm totally over that phase.

This album is not like their first. But still it's amazing, it's something different, but I can still find the sonata style inside this music.

And Jani may be out of the band, but I have seen Elias and he is awesome, not better then Jani offcourse but still a good replacement so my blessings to Elias

  • this is the new album's best song!

  • sonata always reinventing theirselves

  • This almost sounds like it could be part of the The End Of This Chapter series.

  • Pfft My favourite is from 00:01 To 6:15 :)

    Sonata Arctica PWNS!

  • i love how every sonata arctica album sounds different.A lot of fans fans may not like it when they make albums different like that but they always have a song that everyone likes.I personally like all of the songs that they have made though.

  • I REALLY LOVE this song, it's so amazing.

  • that riff at 4:42 sounds so Megadeth. I love this song!!

  • FANTASTICA

  • to awesomefordy...:some? all of Tony's works are truly amazing my friend ;-)

  • wonderful!!

  • Doesn't part of this song sound alot like that 1 song they sing in the really old show "Bunny Picnic" ?? It starts in the 40 second area.

    Sonata Arctica is so awesome!

  • that is true indeed

  • this song pretty much describes how i was about a month ago before i met someone very special to me

  • @Hydrassas Lucky you, I still feel this way :-(

  • 5:00 is the best moment...... :@

  • it's my ringtone, it's fucking sweet

  • The best album of Sonata

  • The worst comment on Sonata.

  • 2:35 - 3:05 ===>> The epic part of this song!

  • I love every album Sonata Arctica has released. Listening to them progress is amazing! I love their old style, but this new style is amazing as well. I would, however, like to see them do at least one more faster album, like Ecliptica, in the future.

  • this song and deathaura + no dream can a heal a broken heart are the best ones. period.

  • What about Juliet?

  • @Kudiz This+no dream... (+Tallulah, but that's an old one) describe my feelings no other song could. I'm sad because it's this way, but in the same time I'm glad they wrote these songs, so I could tell people how I feel with three URL-s instead of lengthy and awkward conversations...

  • This is such an odd, yet a good song :D

  • yes... just odd!!! but really amazing and very good!! I love'em!! thanks guys to exist!! and to be here next to me by your songs ^^

  • I really like the part at 3:42, but thats just me. lol

  • I agree

  • Loved this song since the second it came on in the car from the new CD I had just bought.

  • Loving it *__*

  • great song, really good.

  • so epic!

  • Go Sonata go! ♥♥
