after watching this video... i was more in love with nature... and its little and magical surprises... :) this video/documentary is so magnificent... thanks so much for sharing this... :)
Beautiful video! I love humming birds,I watch them everyday. They come to feed on a feeder that I put close to my window and I enjoy to see how they feed. They sit still after drinking their nectar and relax for a while. I wash the feeder and change the nectar daily because of the hot weather.*****
so, I looked on line to get some idea about humming birds nesting. Hummingbird(s) brought lots of sticks to a small pottery shell, hanging from a tree. However, I have not seen any eggs but there seems to be some down in there. What do you think?? It's been awhile since I have seen the bird...if there are no eggs does that mean that they went away??
David, thank you very much for this amazing video! May I use it for my channel to explain Russian children how hummingbirds raise their babies. Russia doesn't have hummingbirds. Thank you, Yelena
Wonderful! We have a hummingbird nesting on a wire (!) in our tiki lounge right now. I have kept a healthy flowering fushcia in a hanging basket - and other red flowering plants -plus a solar water fountain- near by to keep her healthy. I do not dare come to close to her!
How wonderfully beautiful! Thank you for sharing this with us!
The little one left behind watches its sibling fly off and the tiny wheels seem to be turning...”Should I try?” I once had a humming bird land on my finger at a bird sanctuary; quite an amazing experience. The little creature felt like a feather so I cannot imagine how tiny these little babies were.
Glad you were able to videotape this event! I had an Anna's hummingbird nest in my patio, but did not have a video camera. I tried to take pics of them before they flew out of the nest too, but they sure are fast!!! They are such amazing beautiful creatures aren't they?
Their nests are so small and so well camouflaged, they are hard to spot. We are lucky to have witnessed such a neat event!! It's great you are able to share it with everyone!!
Thanks! Actually, there was no intervention. There was someone outside also taking still pictures during the end of the video, as it was very clear they were going to fledge any minute. I wish it did not look like that, but they both left on their own. -David
@netplaceus Right on. Thanks I understand now. I would have been capturing as much of the "last moments" as possible too. I should have realized what you were doing.
No intervention, just taking some final picture before the inevitable first flight.
I also recorded this moment on a other type of "tree", in my backyard. If you can see, go to my channel and watch the footage called "Beija-flor na Antena" ("Hummingbird on Antenna", translated for English), divided into 18 parts.
Here's a moment killer, imagine your mom barfing in your mouth to feed you.Aside from that little joke, I really do think that its beautiful how life can seem slow but when you reflect back in it you'll see how you grow and start to pick up yourself, I hope this video gives another mean to how you live your life.
I had a nest outside my office window and I had tended to it and set out a nectar feeder for them, I came back from the July 4th weekend and the eggs were gone and I cant seem to find the mother. I think a mockingbird got to them and I'm so torn up about it. It's so sad. I love these birds. :(
Absolutely amazing - you did a fabulous job filming this. We have a hummingbird that's built a next on our patio for the first time. We've done some video of her on the nest, but I don't think we can get such great shots as yours though. Well done!
Update: Just one chick survived and it has already flown away.. We saw the mom and the baby yesterday on a branch; the mother still feeds the baby, it was so sweet...
Oh! What a beautiful video!! So well done and I loved the music! "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." Colossians 1:17 Thanks for making the video.
thars a hummingbird's nest outside my house too! except there's only 1 poor little chick :< and mommy or daddy isnt with the little chick and i'm like DDDD:
I just realized that I've never wondered about this before- does a hummingbird (or any bird, really) ever return to the nest? Or once they take that first flight out, are they gone for good?
"They both flew safely into a nearby tree." ARGGGH!! They smacked that tree head on?? Ha! I guess how that should read is "They both safely flew to a nearby tree." Picky picky, eh? GREAT VIDEO and the music was perfect! I love those little guys; they must be the inspiration for faeries! With what is the nest lined? I've seen up close photos, and that white stuff looks like silk...maybe spider webs Mama has gathered and lined the nest with them - like silk, really?
Too cool. We have hummingbirds outside our kitchen window and in a bush next to the shed. Every time they come and nest we watch them just like this. Amazing.
Nature it is Nature ! Always Beautiful,Amazing & Very Soft ! & Fragile ! But the real question is ! What is the 'humans' ! - Beautiful,amazing, soft !!!!! Fragile !!!!!! Or,.......... ! Well, Let There Be LIGHT ! To the All ! ( : - )
I like 'day 24', where the moment the mother alights on the nest's edge two feathery little heads suddenly pop up. It's like "you're back... feed us, NOW!" funny and cute.
My wife left me for a richer dude; and I was on the verge of hanging myself at a nearby park; after watching your hummer friends there, they gave me plenty of hope to keep trucking down the road...
@fambothexterminator loved this hummingbird video and then saw your comment and hoping and PRAYING things are better for you. I am praying for you. May God keep you in his loving care. Best wishes.

Maybe somebody can help me! I live in the mountains of Colorado and hummingbirds are very common. Well, a few days ago, i found a young humming bird but old enough to fly on my sidewalk. She is missing half her feathers on one wing and cant fly. At the moment she is hanging out in a shoebox witha saucer of nectar. I dont know what to do! heLP!
That was interesting how their beaks were short when they were born, and how quickly they grew. I wish after they had flown, you had put a quarter in the nest, or next to it, for comparison. Great video though. Thank you for sharing!

We experienced a few years back
how adaptable mourning doves are
with humans. We were able to capture
via webcam and camera the building of the nest,
the birth of their squabs and the final flight into adulthood.
A priceless experience for us also!

That's so sweet. I love this video. It reflects how human mother behaves and how one day kids would have to fly on their own wings.
