Uh...this is a television program. They make it seem significantly cooler than it is, to smoke cones and take pills.

Actually when I was a teenager I smoked plenty of bucket bongs...I used to love getting high. We went out on the pills when pills here were still good MDMA....I used to stay awake all weekend. Friday I'd be munted, Saturday pretty out of my head, and Sunday just ratshit, terrible, heart racing, skin flushing, tired eyes.

I remember one Sunday morning, we came back from a nightclub in Sydney called 'Home', which was called that because on Saturday they played House music.

On MDMA you get the eye-wobbles, so if you roll your eyes around inyour head right now really fast you'll get agood impression of the visual effect.

Anyway I always got very emotional on pills...I remember dancing once, and I looked across at this beautiful girl, she smiled, and it was a beautiful emotional connection....though artificial

But I took my girlfriend out and we would dance, but whenever we got on the pills, we'd want to talk. Inside the nightclub you can't hear anything, the music is too loud. You end up shouting.

She was telling me about a dream she had, where we were in Saturday Night Fever and we were disco dancing.

We went outside, into the breeze, and the night. Right on Sydney Harbour, you could see the lights from the buildings flickering on the water.

It felt amazing, just to walk outside, into the night

My girlfriends feet were sore, because before we came to the club, she only had heels. The bouncers let her in with no shoes on, because one of our friends knew a DJ there, so we got in through the VIP entrance (which was just an entrance at the top, where they'd give you a wristband, and you could walk through all the levels of the club...rather than being restricted to the first and second levels).

So we wanted to talk, and there was a tiny park nearby, with swings. She didnt want to walk tho

So I picked her up, and carried her over to the swings...both of us were very munted. Our friends were still inside, they didn't know where we were.

She got in one swing, and I got in the other swing. We sat there, buzzing, and talking and looking out at Sydney Harbour, and watching all the girls and guys heading into the nightclub. We were laughing a bit, all the girls had the same kinds of dresses on...this was back in about 04, there was a particular style the girls were dressing in then

So we made a bit of fun of them, quietly. She turned in the swing and put her feet up on my lap, and we just sat there, talking, kissing and mostly being quiet, so totally absorbed in each other...in a way that was, at that moment, beyond all lust. Beyond all worldly feelings, whether of sex, or desire. Euphoric and totally in love and at peace with each other, and the world, in the middle of Sydney, at 3am.

Absolute empathy, and a deeper feeling of love than I'd ever experienced. MDMA

Taking it too often reduced the effect, though.

I couldn't get that high anymore. I'd just get really messy. We went to 'Utopia', a rave party. Everyone was smiling - that's what you get, when nobody's drunk, and everybody is on MDMA. There's no violence. Random people, strangers would smile and talk to you.

If you wanted pills, or drugs, you'd just ask people.

Pills then were identified by logos and colours, so you'd get, say, a "Beige A" which was beige with an A on it.

I took a Beige A that night at Utopia, the rave. I remember sitting in the hall between the main stage and the toilets, and my eyes were shimmering from side to side. I got a text message, but I couldn't read it, because my eyes were wobbling so hard ('nystagmus' is the term for it).

I looked up at some people, and I couldn't focus. Their sillhouettes would shift, and change, into intricate patterns - yes, MDMA would make you hallucinate, if it was good enough MDMA.

I danced for hours: 11am to 4am, without a break, five hours, totally absorbed in the music. I went to sit down with my friends, and I heard sobbing.

A girl near the taps where we were sitting, was crying and was sick.

I felt I HAD to help her, even though I didn't know her, and she was another girl of thousands in the crowds. I couldn't bear to see her crying.

I went up, and gave her water, and we sat down on the grass together. I told her to lay her head back on the grass. I just talked.

She lay with her eyes closed and listened. I just talked, and she got better after a while. We were totally comfortable together. She had long brown hair. I asked her if I could touch her hair, because on MDMA you need physical stimulus ... touching feels amazing. Her hair looked so soft.

She let me, and I ran my hands through hair hair, first one, then the other, then both, really slowly. She sat up, and she asked if she could give me a massage. I put my head on her lap.

She gave me a massage, and her fingers, she always had really slender fingers, just lightly touched through my hair, and onto my shoulders and my neck.

It was such an intensely beautiful experience: I hadn't known her for more than three hours. We were both buzzing on very strong MDMA pills. We were both enthralled by each others physical presence - and emotional presence. Having another human, especially of the opposite sex, near you when you're on MDMA creates the chance for amazing connection

And while she was a very hot girl, I thought then (and still do now), I wasn't 'checking her out' as I might do, as most blokes do, when we're drunk. It didn't occur to me. She was beyond that - someone whose words and actions, whose very personal essence was so unbelievably intoxicating, so deeply beautiful...that I only thought about love.

I fell in love with her, as she was massaging me.

We talked, and I knew her like I had my whole life, because of the deep nature of our talking.

Perhaps it's hard to convey.

We didn't even kiss that night, because it would have been too intense. The MDMA was running so strong, we just carressed each other. I touched her hair, her eyes, ran my fingers over her lips, and she just really lightly ran her fingers through my hair, and over my neck, and my back.

All the while we talked. We fell in love.

When the morning light broke over the rave, I had met the first, and last woman I'd ever love.

Now she's my wife.

So...well, MDMA wasn't glamorous, for me, like it's portrayed in this show.

It was an utterly euphoric drug, in a serotonergic, empathic, true-love sense.

I stopped taking it when I could no longer receive that beautiful intensity of intoxication, and when the pills in Sydney started being made of poorer quality drugs, speed and ketamine and who knows what else, mixed together.

Anyway - my advice is, don't seek the perfect relationship.

There's no such thing.

I'm not saying settle for a bad one.

But all relationships have flaws. Try to make it work, give and let your partner give too - and you'll come to a union that will last the rest of your life.

27 or 28 or 30 comes quicker than you think, and you don't want to be desperate, looking for whatever you can get, at that age.....should you decide you want a long term relationship.
