Wow, of all the myriad ports made of this game, this is by far the best. The team who ported this actually went all out and made this an actual game with a fair difficulty curve (more max health). And the extra detail/animation for the enemies are amazing. Too bad it was only available in Japan :-(
It was critically lauded (except for the difficulty) and was a hit. It inspired like half of the games to come out on the Amiga. It has so many crappy knock offs

I personally prefer the MD-Genesis version. maybe cause it's faster (and MORE difficult due to this)than all the other versions, and the music being at a much faster tempo and rithm, sounds more tribal in it...but that's just me, tho!
Interesting, all these years and I never knew SOTB was ported to the FM Towns. What's the best version of this - Amiga, PC Engine, Megadrive/Genesis or FM Towns?
Well Amiga was based on 68000 processor which is a 16/32bits. The music sounds better on the FM Towns as it is from Audio CD however, I'm probably a too much "A500 owner nostalgia" but I prefer graphics and musics from the Amiga. For me, the graphics on the FM Towns are a bit too "cartoonish".
Well the game remain the same, excellent however my preference is for the Amiga. FMTowns was an impressive machine at the time but too much expensive, mainly due to the import :(
The music isn't sad enough, instead quiet funny.

The artists that draw the extra graphics for the FM Towns Beast games really needed to work on their style.

Better sprites, animation and colors than Amiga original but worse scrolling and music.
It seems also easier to play.
