Don't get me wrong, I like Federal Signal. I do not like the 2001, though. I would put in a Whelen before a 2001, because a Vortex or 4004 is pure metal and steel, and I haven't seen one fail yet in the cities surrounding me. The 2001 is a mixture of metal and (SOME) plastic. They are damaged easier due to this. I also have seen more 2001's fail than how many years I've lived.
I used to live in Dallas and these sirens should be used to warn people of the high crime areas, not some rare 100 year storm. If the siren would go off for each murder or robbery in SE Dallas then it would never stop functioning.
Those sirens are only meant to warn people outside anyway, you should really get a weather radio for indoors, besides tornadoes CAN and DO spawn with little or no warning so you shouldn't always rely on the sirens going off because they might not if the tornado isn't spotted in time
Aww, poor Thunderbolts. They were all replaced the same day? *sigh* I guess the 2001s were the best they could do, because the only other option was electronic sirens like the whelen which fail too often. R.I.P Dallas Thunderbolts. Hopefully the ones that still worked found good homes elswhere.
cool i saw this on the news too! its good that they get them up and running soon. i remember going to the Huelen mall and there used to be a ACA alerter there and now its gone :(
well this sux... t bolts are good and most of them in the dfw metro still work very good. the only prob is cosmetic stuff.but atleast they are staying with federal signal.
Yeah, it really sucks since most are still working great when removed. This one kind of surprised me, since it seems most of Texas is going the way of Whelen or ATI.
thats so stupid! you can't depend solely on outdoor warning sirens! He needs to get a weather radio as well. Sirens were never meant to be heard inside a building.

It would've taken them alot less time if they just filled the gaps in with the new sirens and let the old ones be until storm season was over.

Dallas got 2001-130's in spring 2009, too? Dang, it must be national Midwest siren awareness year!
And with 150 new sirens, those people won't miss a tornado!

I think that these 2001's arent gonna last in the long run it think that within like 5-10 years they'll all be breaking down
rhett443 2 years ago 2
there`s several that have lasted years and still work today Euless has had their FS 2001s for a while and they work fine

Is the the old ThunderBolt's pole at 1:49?
JustInn014 2 years ago
No, Dallas' Thunderbolts were mounted on steel poles, which also acted as their blower pipe.
murrfarms 2 years ago
Oh, I see.
Still sucks they got rid on them. Seems like lots of TX towns are doing this, bleh.
