Robert Downey Jr. would have won an Oscar for this if people wouldn't have taken this racist. The story-line is that Robert Downey Jr. plays the best actor in the world that can become ANY kind of character. The comedy is that he can play a black guy perfect. I thought Jack Black's portrayal of a drug addict was the most potentially offensive thing in the movie because unlike Stiller and Downey who are playing stupid actors, Black is supposed to be playing a real drug addict. Blacks seem to be less offended by Downey trying to look black than Beyonce trying to look white. She has had a very minor nose job and seems to wear a wig on stage. For just these makeup effects she is viciously attacked as being inauthentic.
I think the news story here is that there was no significant contoversy about the Downey blackface.
There is also a clip of Bing Crosby in blackface. It celebrates Lincoln freeing the slaves yet it seems to offend a lot of blacks. Go figure.

Okay. First thing I gotta say is that I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! And to all you people out there claiming it's "racist," chill. I thought the lead farmer scene was the best scene, and I'm fuckkin Asian! I didn't find it offensive. The kind of blackface that's meant to make black people look idiotic/animalistic is offensive. In this movie they so obviously addressed the ridiculousness of Downey's character (even having a black guy correct him). im a minority. and i gotta say that Downey is just an amzing actor. i mean a colored man couldnt have made that character funny.....it was a great performance by a great actor trying to break down this barrier of racism that is around us even if we dont want to admit it. i respect the man for taking such a risk, and pulling it off with flying colors..great movie...will watch it again and buy it for sure.

I thought Jack Black's portrayal of a drug addict was the most potentially offensive thing in the movie because unlike Stiller and Downey who are playing stupid actors, Black is supposed to be playing a real drug addict. So while Stiller and Downey are making fun of how stupid and insensitive actors/hollywood can be, Black is making fun of drug addicts, which is a very serious and not funny condition.

My point about the Holocaust is, you don't see anyone making jokes about that; Clearly your understanding of Slavery is limited to only the times when blacks were in what's known as "Physical Bondage" - You do not take into account, the Effects of Slavery - what's often referred to as "Mental Bondage" - There are many, many effects of Slavery, including Refusing to speak "Proper English" to avoid what's referred to as, "trying to be white."
