Oh, I'm not sure if you know, but it's not exactly as simple as that. In this case it's a low resolution model, created in Lightwave, then Zbrushed displacement maps and eventually you'd load the model into messiah, give it a texturemap with the displacement, do your surface design (color, spec, etc...) and render that. ...roughly speaking, of course.

In particular, how are the nodes linked within the hypershade to be driven by the corresponding animated blendshapes? Oh, this one is actually horrible, because it's off-sync for some reason. I often use motionJPG and the classic sorenson 3, but nowadays it's most of the time H264. It's tricky though, because you have to hit a magic compression setting for each clip. Don't ask! :P

YouTube recompresses everything and it won't ever look as good as you gave it to them, but well. Trail and error is probably still the only way I know myself. Sure, bust is a simple geometry (488 polygons). A bone setup for animation and displacement maps for rendering do everything. Maps get exchanged over a slider expression, also changing the eyecolor. That's all.

this is not impressive, i mean sure you made all this voices and characters and shading and everything, but the faces are all wrong, they just look wrong, creepy and weird, the eyes are too flat, the lips are out of proportion, and the head shape is unrealistic. please, for your next work try making a more realistic human face. unless of course you were going for the whole "monster" look then great job

You are absolutely idiot...this is a demo to show how messiah studio can animate displacements and the work u can do whit really low basemesh and some zb sculpt. Btw Taron is one of the most talented artist, programmer, painter, musician in the world..and 4 shure is the most INNOVATIVE. Do you know what is innovation? This is not LOTR..shut up.

Oh, I'm not sure if you know, but it's not exactly as simple as that. In this case it's a low resolution model, created in Lightwave, then Zbrushed displacement maps and eventually you'd load the model into messiah, give it a texturemap with the displacement, do your surface design (color, spec, etc...) and render that. ...roughly speaking, of course.

Great work Taron. Now does anyone know how to setup a shading network for multiple displacement maps within Maya? In particular, how are the nodes linked within the hypershade to be driven by the corresponding animated blendshapes? If anyone can post or direct to a link, (Aside from setting up MRay & I've read Miller's Hyper-realistic creature book too, but how do you link the nodes?), I would appreciate any walk-throughs or advice. Thanks.

Taron, could you please tell me what compression method you use to upload your animations to youtube?mine are, of course on an inferior level compared to yours, but they always get so crappy after uploading them, i can hardly make anything out. Oh, this one is actually horrible, because it's off-sync for some reason. I often use motionJPG and the classic sorenson 3, but nowadays it's most of the time H264. It's tricky though, because you have to hit a magic compression setting for each clip. Don't ask! :P

Hahaha, you're very welcome! Well, honestly, I went by it very naivly so to say and just uploaded my QT in the best ratio I could find between quality and size. YouTube recompresses everything and it won't ever look as good as you gave it to them, but well. Trail and error is probably still the only way I know myself. Animation and renders are done with messiah:Studio professional. Zbrush doesn't have animation.

dude. that is sick and i want to do that. but im still saving for zbrush 3 and i know it have an animation program in it and i was wondering is it good? because my friends use a differant animzation program and they make the models on zbrush because its more detailed and easyer. and i was wondering if u have an aim so since yur a good artist i could ask questions when im having trouble with the program. i mean not like for everything but for like things that are worth your time.

Sure, bust is a simple geometry (488 polygons). A bone setup for animation and displacement maps for rendering do everything. Maps get exchanged over a slider expression, also changing the eyecolor. That's all.

oh ok so the low poly mesh is rigged i dig, thats how i am doing my zbrush workflow into max/maya, great video dude!
so the maps are exchanged thru a slider expression, i will have to see if i can replicate this in max or maya because the technique looks great
