  • WOW! This was really good. It made me realize the thing I like most about hearing Chinese is the tones. The cadence is so natural and human. After this I can't wait to go to the China buffet place I go to regularly and say, "Zui Jin Hao Ma". They've already heard me say "Ni Hao" and I must say it funny because that's what they call me (with respect) behind my back, "Ni Hao is here" they say.

  • @NelsonClick Thanks for watching and commenting! Subscribe for more lessons~ :)

  • Thx huni ^.^ I'm learning Mandarin and this is really helpful. I love the language and how relatively simple it actualy is to learn (well the spoken part anyways) =)

  • @samantttha Thanks a lot for watching. I am glad to hear that you find this lesson easy to follow. :)

  • Great video!

Only suggestion: You have a lot of filler words when you're speaking, such as "uhms", "so...", " okay...." "I,I,I ..." Just watch those. It will bring your message out a lot more clearer.

    Loving your hand motions!

  • @CrimsonHeroKohei Thanks a lot. This is my first video lesson teaching Mandarin. I think I have become a much better speaker in English in my recent videos. Please check them out if you have a chance. Thank you for watching! :)

  • Dear Peggy. I am from Brazil and I visited China recently in business trip. I am working with 5 Chinese companies now and I have a co-worker in China. Your country is powerful and very beautiful. After visiting China I felt that I should have gone there 20 years ago. But it is never too late. My son is moving to Shanghai in February 2012 to improve our businesses there. He is very happy. I will do my best to learn Chinese and more from your culture. Congratulations for the teaching skills.

  • @evilquagmire1 What kind of business do you run in China? Brazil is booming! Very soon, people will also be learning Portuguese! :D

  • When I tried going to ustream link I got this message: 'We're sorry, the page you requested cannot be found."

  • Some years ago someone taught me how to say, "How are you?" in Chinese. It was actually the same phrase you said that we should probably not use. One day I thought I would call some Chinese people up on the phone and say, "ni hao ma" and they all got very angry and started yelling in Chinese at me! Why did they do this, and what did I do wrong?

  • You are a good teacher, and you have a nice, slow pace.

The only thing I might improve is the video's sound quality.

My Hong Kongese friend tried to teach basic Chinese to me and had a very hard time explaining the vocal inflections. It's a very difficult thing for an English speaker to grasp. I thought your hand gestures were helpful, and you explained it very well.

  • Why does 'zui' here sound more like zué? (Rather than the i' rhyming with English 'see')

  • @IAmPinkStars Well, I gotta look him up!

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese Do! he's not a bad looking guy either! lolz atleast i don't think so! *-*

  • I love your video!!! (But maybe make the characters bigger and have them stay on the screen longer so learners can learn the symbols.) I want to learn mandarin so I really love your video!!!

  • @CharityBrown20 Gotcha! Thanks for watching!

  • she is hot.......y all chinese ppl r hot???

  • peggy tiene unas tetas enormes!!!!!!!

  • 是普通話「Mandarin」不是「Chinese」,這都分不清你怎麼教書呀?

  • @TaiGekTou 我知道是Mandarin啊 不過還是有很多人用 "Chinese" 來表示華語 下次會多注意

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese 就是因爲這樣所以才要改正嘛。好吧…繼續加油!

  • hi, i am studying chinese in school and our teacher taught us a word he said meant "basic chinese" or something like that. it is pronounced something like "putongwa"... would you have any idea how to write the pinyin for this? thank you :)

  • @brambleface "普通話 pu3tong1hua4" is the term referring to "Mandarin Chinese" that is used in Mainland China. You can also call it "中文 zhong1wen2" or "華語 hua2yu3 as in Mandarin Chinese in general.

  • I liked this video, you are a great teacher! I wish my world language teachers at school would teach like this. I would be much more interested in learning a language.

  • Ni Hao Peggy Laoshi! :D

  • 安家明

  • i absolutely love that you put this up!

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese thank you thank you thank you!!! you are a godsend!!! im starting mandarin soon at school and what with french spanish and italian already i wanted to find an easy way to get a rough start before classes :) panic over!

  • Chinese pronunciation had changed a lot during the past several thousand years.

  • qlig njis suum hljids ngaa rug snhid preed gu gjub praag snhin mans qeg lew

kroon kroon tshja ku dze gaal tie tiiw

No, the phrases above is not an alien language, that's how ancient Chinese sounded like, 3000 years ago.

  • Archaic Chinese do not have tones.

qlig njis suum hljids ngaa rug snhid preed gu gjub praag snhin mans qeg lew

That's how ancient Chinese language sounded like, 3000 years ago.

  • Numbers in archaic Chinese ( 3000 years ago Diiw Dynasty ) qlig (one) njis (two) suum (three) hljids (four) ngaa (five) rug (six) snhid (seven) preed (eight) gu (nine) gjub (ten)
  • good

  • WTF!!!!!!!! chinese is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard.i think they made it like that so ppl won't learn the language

  • @LilBlitz116 LOL !!

  • @LilBlitz116

Chinese is not hard at all. Mandarin is so easy, ancient Chinese was harder.

  • @TheXanian maybe ur chinese or something but im black i can never in 100000 years pronounce this language

  • @LilBlitz116 There's a black guy with a channel teaching Chinese. Just search emkid, you'll find a few of his vids :-D

  • is it also ok to ask "ni3 zui4 jin4 zen3 me yang2 ?" that is how i had learned it. is it to formal or casual comapred to "zui4 jin4 hao3 ma"?

  • @worldtravel101 Both are acceptable except that "ni3 zui4jin4 zen3 me5 yang4?" means "How is it with you lately?" :)

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese thanks peggy. you are the best mandarin teacher. your vids have come a long way. you make learning it fun... some teachers are so boring. if its fun we will enjoy to study it. we appreciate your humor and skits in your lessons :) i tell everyone to check out peggyteacheschinese

  • thank you this is so helpful

  • Thank you so much. I finally learned the tones.

  • With the tones, is there anything to make it easier to know which one to use for a word. Or is it only specific to the word?

  • thanks Peggy!!

  • You are so awesome i love you life saver

  • Your video is too redundant. It's hard to learn if you constantly repeat things you have already explained.

  • xie xie ni x x x x
