There was someone on TV some years ago (I forget who) who managed to hold a note for well over four MINUTES. The only reason he had to stop was because his mouth filled with saliva and he finally had to swallow or spit.
He claimed he had perfected being able to switch back and forth from exhaling to inhaling while singing a note with full quality, with no audible evidence of the switch.
Any time I try to sing while inhaling, I wind up coughing my head off!
Too bad the other guys couldn't really match his chest voice...
