Wow. Teaching a little boy to love the outdoors; what a wonderful thing. Keep up the good work, he'll love you for it. My Dad did that with me, and now I'm preparing for my 3rd AT Thruhike.
WOW yall stayed at like Resort style on the AT. My adventure was nothing like that. that fire, wow try it after you hike 4000ft up a mountain in the freezeing cold and rain and next day everything is wet. btw i stole some wood from the Priest shelter outhouse, but noone tell anyone, it was cold.
It's hard to imagine that a lot of thru-hikers hike through Maryland in less than 23 hours. They miss the history, not to mention the great shelters, like the Ed Garvey Shelter. Rocky Run was even a good ole time shelter. Great pics... Ron from Jefferson City, MO
right on, during my 1999 thru-hike I enjoyed most all the shelters, the West Va maryland harpers ferry area was one of the most historic, beautiful parts of the trail. The journey is the destination.
I was just at that shelter a few weeks ago when I was hiking on the AT. Great video by the way

The A.T is NOT an easy trail, be prepared for a lot of pain, and great joy. I can help you get in the right direction if you like.

@athiker7209 I love Rocky Run. There's now a new shelter near the historic shelter and the tent sites on the ridge are great.
