  • It's a shame when crappy mainstream chart artists are advertised on beautiful songs like this. Just makes you think about how quality in music can digress over time. Bob does the music business proud.

  • "The boots are a metaphor" - don't analyse, just enjoy! Gorgeous words which may (or may not) mean something, tender song, great performance, great man.

  • Could someone upload or link to the original Make You Feel My Love? I love Adele's version, but I need to hear his. I can't find it at all.

  • greatest songwriter in 45 years? you underestimate . HE IS americas shakespeare

  • im having an arguement with someone about the boots.

    Do the boots mean:

    A) they are an insult from dylan to her that if he cant have her, hell have boots

    or

    B) that he wants something to remember her by

  • @medicalhockey

I think that he means that without the girl he will also begin travelin', but byt foot. He will be a restless wanderer to escape the memory of her. He is sure that she's not thinking of him, and instead "the country where she is going". So he wants to do the same. Spanish boots are also of such a good quality, that he can roam for a long time.

As he sang in Mr. Tambourine Man a year later: "Wait only for my boot heels to be wanderin’".

  • @medicalhockey The answer is probably a combination of both. I believe that Dylan's response (if you my love must think that way...) is one of someone who is not only hurt but embarrassed and angry that his "beloved" chose a new life over him. He is ashamed of being so optomistic and spilling his heart out for this person throughout their exchange of letters only to be rejected. This is a feeling we ALL know. He impulsively writes back saying, yeah send me the boots in attempt to show that

  • @ColtonCernyMusic he is not as affected by the situation as he perhaps really is. "hey if i can't have you, i'll at least take the boots." Outwardly, it's an attempt to preserve his pride. That being said, we obviously know he is madly in love or at least infatuated with this person to whom he is writing. Deep down it is very plausible that he may want something to remember them by. This song captures the dynamics of a failing relationship so well. A great example of Dylan's brilliance.

  • @ColtonCernyMusic ....But that's just how i've always interpreted it. The boots themselves could be a metaphor for moving on too but the fact he is asking for fine, probably very expensive boots of genuine spanish leather seems to me to be more of an offensive play on Dylan's part. "Oh all I want is your sweet kiss. Wait, your leaving me? Well shit, give me some really nice boots then..." That's my 2 cents.

  • @medicalhockey I would say B. I think symbols are really powerful for people. Sometimes they evoke even more emotion than the person they symbolize.

  • this song is remarkably similar to an earlier song of his, "Girl From The North Country." This song sounds like a continuation of where he last left off. Leave it to Bob Dylan to craft a story this beautifully.

  • also, thanks for uploading the original song (instead of another cover)! good job.

  • The greatest songwriter of all time. Because he is.

  • I read this poem in my class and listened to this :3

  • Thank you so much for posting. I have missed this. Been a long time.....peace to you dear

  • Right now I'm listening to this song hungover in Russia on my 23rd birthday and I miss my girlfriend so much! And I won't be bringing her any russian dolls just my KISS that I hope she's still wishing to be owning. Thanks Dylan !!!!!!!

  • It's funny, I read this in an Anthology of Poetry before I ever heard the song. Says something about how well the lyrics are constructed.

  • Brilliant.

  • I find it so sad that such great music like this was almost completely forgotten when all the new, talentless music came out. We will never have great songwriters like this ever again, and it's sad that they got overpowered by all the abhorrent artists today that should be slaughtered for their nauseating pieces of music that sent the real musicians into a serrated hell hole where their worst nightmares became reality. When music like this is called "amazing", it truely is an understatement.

  • @JFTerson there will always be lyrics and music like this, whether or not its the epicentre of youth culture. Its how my generation works today-its all about money-so even if ive written a song thats even half as good as this (which i hopefully have/will do in my time on this planet), it will not receive the same level of attention and cultural influence as this song. I am a man living in the wrong time, to put it that way-sadly, of course.

  • My professor used this song in lecture.

The story of two lovers, the women departing for Spain. She asks is there anything you'd like me to bring you. And all he wants is for her to come back to him. But she keeps insisting let me bring you something anything but her presence.

Finally, giving up he asks for Spanish boots of Spanish leather.

She will never return. He has to leave with it. Give me shoes so I can learn to walk away.

    Poetically done quite nicely.

  • I'm feel very proud for Bob Dylan sings about my country, Spain, and my city, Madrid... Today aren't someone like Bob Dylan... Excuse me for my english.

  • @JaBo0or Me encanta Madrid! He vivido 4 años ahí y lo hecho de menos mucho. La vida madrileña es incomparable. Estudié en la universidad Complutense también. Me encanta España. No hay muchos como Bob Dylan tampoco. Es un poeta. Paco Ibañez es bastante bueno también.

  • To say anyone could sing Bob's stuff with more soul than he does, piffel.

  • one of my all time favorite dylan songs! thanks for posting!

  • this song moved me to tears

    she's not coming back unspoiled

  • your right this song wasn't posted at all and it is also my favorite Dylan song so thank you for doing us all a favor and sharing it

  • so beautiful.

  • oh i've known this in mcs cringe for souvenir so but return to resume as even me to get in car out of mercury or have ferment mechanic for more improvement than chassis. but today this means a lot as family has leery road with reminder for me there could be $50,000 and i was speechless but to quote 'just carry yourself back to be unspoiled' and it resonated for reassurance of driving carefully as no rush after short message understood as 'take heed take heed' of which i'll repeat replay. carolyn

  • seldom scene did this really well.

  • thank you so very much for posting this song, I searched you tube previously so glad to find it here now.

  • I was discovering both the artist and the beautiful world of Folk Music recordings that I hadn't listened to yet when I heard this song begin. Soft introduction and the most personal and vulnerable voice that I've ever heard a man sing in. What a revelation of the human heart and loneliness captured on tape. Many other artists have also paid tribute to this recording, but the intimacy and loss of a personal relationship that is ending have never been told so beautifully.

  • This song is associated with the most wonderful night in my life- with one of the most wonderful human beings I've ever met in my life. I'll never forget going 80 down the empty fog-bound road with you. I'll never forget flying. I'll never forget to die happy. Now remember to hold my hand- and we'll live a perfect life together. It's me you want, my dear. You're all I want. :) <3

  • @Veektoereeah You are such a gaylord

  • @Banuel Nah, brah. I'm just inloveee.

  • @Banuel yeah brah, don't be a dick nugget

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs bob has ever written, if there really is something like a "most beautiful dylan song". i recently found out that suze rotolo, bobs girlfriend in the early 60s (and who appeared on the freewheelin bob dylan cover with him) died in february; this song was written for her. listening to it makes me even sadder now.

  • @BobDylansPet This is easily my favorite Dylan song also. I wonder if Suze broke bob's heart all the way from Barcelona.

  • just bought the the times they are a changing remastered on vinyl, Dylan I think can only be appreciated on Vinyl, plus I think it adds to the nostalgia

  • One reason I picked up a harmonica

  • We had to listen to this and "Patches" by someone else

  • Been looking for this forever

  • I coinsider Bob Dylan to be the Greatest Songwriter of the last 45 years. Even though he wrote this song, I am more partial to the version as recorded by Nanci Griffith - Sorry Bob.

  • @bigbadm1 that version is pretty good too

  • Who in the world is Nanci Griffith?

  • @bigbadm1 Have a listen to the version by Dervish -- it is exquisite. And I agree about Bob being the greatest songwriter.

  • @bigbadm1 The best version is the Martin Simpson version

  • We Had To Listen To This In My English Class

  • @00iloveshanedawson - i had a friend who was an English teacher. He would make his students read Dylan's lyrics.

  • @obunkystaind Lucky? Everyone In My Class Started To Laugh!?!?!?

  • Im blessed to know my lifetime crossed with Bob Dylan's...

  • My favorite too!

  • the 1963 carnegie hall is the best version i believe.

  • Simply a beautiful tune...

  • @CaptainZanetti4 yes sir.

  • This song is beautiful.

  • This is proper, timeless music. Bob you are immortal through masterpieces like this.

  • I agree with vodkarodriguez. If you ask for Dylan, Dylan is want you want to hear. I raise my glass of ouzo to you, vodkarodriguez. Yammas!

  • This is so beautiful... makes me cry every time. And I listen to it almost daily, hahaha.

  • This song is perfect.

  • "...I'd forsake them all for your sweet kiss, for that's all I'm wishing to be owning."

    Great lyric, beautiful song!

  • What a beutiful song ......Im 16 year old guy , haha and this makes me cry...... especially when i think of a certain someone.......

  • Thanks for uploading this, its so hard to find the original, also my favourite dylan song

  • Absolutely fuckin beautiful. In every way.

  • This song damn near made me cry the first time I heard it...

  • "Girl From The North Country" > "Boots of Spanish Leather"

  • @Zargon314 I agree

  • @Zargon314. Same chord progression. The two songs are certainly great.. But Girl From the North Country is bitchin'

  • Web Sheriff is on the prowl and just whacked another version. Enjoy this while you can.

  • you know what send those boots. Bitch!!!

  • Thank you for uploading this. This song means alot to me.

  • me too actually.

  • i've always wondered what he was staring at in that pic...

  • After 50 odd years it dawns on me, just tonight, that at least she had the decencey & courtesey, maybe just the civility, to make an effort to dump him gently & preserve his dignity. I wonder if that was intended?

  • so lovely. the first time i heard this, it was like getting the wind knocked out of me very, very slowly.

  • this song gives me goosebumps

  • One of Dylan's most beautiful songs. Thanks.

  • Une des plus belles chansons d'amour jamais chantées !

  • @ vodkarodriguez damn straight, im sick of people covering dylan records. Its swamped on here when you are trying to find the original record.

  • @jjionner if Robin Pecknold covered dylan it would be cool though

  • @TheHummingbirdsong he sang this song to his brother when he was 14...if i couldve been there...oh man,

  • @jjionner some years back I saw Dylan, here in Dallas. He was . . . . may he live forever in our hearts and minds . . . .beautiful to see. Detached from the audience-connected only to his soul-to his music. This was was the only "old" song he performed. I cried.

  • @jjionner ...why dont you do the artist a favour and do something radical? Try BUYING the record and stop knocking people who play and sing music.

  • Two of the most beautiful songs ever written, Boots of Spanish Leather and Rainy Night in Soho by the Pogues. I cry every time....

  • quite good

  • Comment removed

  • such an awesome song. Bob's the best.

  • This is great! Could you post the whole album? :D

  • This is a peaceful song, please don't ruin it. Please stop the altercation.

  • @TheHummingbirdsong

So well said...such a majestic song....

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm glad that so many people have covered this great song, but it's worthwhile to re-visit the original recording. The Singer's voice is warm and strong throughout the song. That's got to be a testimony to how his unique vocal quality got recorded. I've heard this song recorded by others and this loose, familiar reading is like an old friend.

  • thanks for posting this

  • Very greatful for the post. Hope to see the Carnegie Hall version on here again. Fuck Sony, Web Sherrif &, of course youtube

  • Thanks for this, the original,it's only the master that counts.

  • glad you posted this... i wanted the original... not covers! lol love the words to this song... makes me think of my bf [hes in the navy] cause no matter what he could or would ever bring home and from where in the world... all i want is him home safely (:

  • love this song, I have also lived a situation alike to his and I can relate to it. However, what I would really like to say is thanks for the link, because I am sooo sick of typinc Bob Dylan and the name of a song on youtube and finding hundreds of morons uploading their crap covers up.

  • @vodkarodriguez no problem dude

  • @vodkarodriguez same. keep your mediocre covers to yourself, no one know who you are and no one cares.. let Mr. Dylan do his own songs! My girlfriend is moving to Barcelona in 4 days... this song is eerily close to us.

  • @jakep34

I live in the UK, mine is moving to Canada, coincidence i saw this.

  • @vodkarodriguez Let's see...you just love Dylan soooooo much, yet you are "typinc" Bob Dylan up on You Tube. When I want the original I can play an LP, a CD or an MP3. You should check into such possibilities and thereby avoid all these morons and their crap covers.

  • @corticalmass Oh I am sorry Mr.Smart Arse, so when I'm on holiday abroad, and I want to show a song to somebody, I have to bring up all my goddamn LP´s or make sure that I have put every song I have on my MP3 player just in case. Don't be such a prick, and I think it is kinda clear that I don't usually write "typinc" that way and that is was an error because I was t-y-p-i-n-g quickly. If you are trying to sound mature or clever, you just sound like a gimp. Spelt G-I-M-P.

  • @vodkarodriguez exactly, all us dylan fans know that only bob can do justice to his songs because he feels the song with every bone in his body. bob is the greatest

  • @vodkarodriguez ...have you got any songs on here dude? It is a tribute to the man himself to play and sing his immortal songs.

  • agh!! THANX!!

  • hello everybody!

  • @TheHummingbirdsong hi yourself....

great song remember my dad strumming this to me as a little lad got me hooked on Bob since then long may his music influence people across the globe
