@JoltinDjango Dukakis wasn't actually the one who started the furlough program, it was done by Francis Sargent (a Republican governor) back in the 1970s. The 1988 Bush campaign was the nastiest and dirtiest campaign in history. Of course the Republicans loved talking about Willie Horton but didn't want to hear about Angel Medrano, a convicted heroin dealer who was furloughed from a federal prison during the Reagan administration and raped and murdered a woman while on furlough.

Im sure therer must have been a review process of Horton's potential to committ rape and murder again if he was released. They probably gave even more lienency because he was black than anything else. Dukaks as the governor, was responsible, he and he alone was responsible for the rape and murder that Horton committed, not Ronald Reagan. If he signed off on any plan that came from California, which I highly doubt, than he could have made changes since he was the governor of that, not Reagan.

Affirmative Action is also not a good social experiment either. Im not afraid to speak my mind against Affirmative Action. Most people are afraid because they don't want to be branded somehow a racist. I don't see how its racist at all to be true equal opprotunity and the best qualified person for getting a job instead of the least qualified just because of their race and gender. And yes, I do believe that it wasn't for Reverse Discrimination which Affirmative Action really is, a highly educated,skilled former servicemember would be employed.
