Vinnie is a humble man. He is good enough to know that there is a spiritual force out there. Jaco used to say "music is always flowing by, I just learned how to reach out and grab it.
but, I agree with bensoncarlos- it was his practicing constantly that got him to where he is. I can testify to this fact because he ruined my dashboard in a beautiful 1965 Pontiac station wagon by playing rudiments into it on the way to our lounge gig 5 nights a week. Bill Frisell was the guitar player in the band
@KermitDriscoll1 yes. discipline & devotion & a great deal of natural ability (all of which are a gift) contribute to Vinnie's talent... but it didnt bring Vinnie happiness or spiritual awareness. His was written long before he ever touched a pair of drumsticks. Faith & believing is a choice. I'm happy for Vinnie. In a band w Vinnie and Bill? Tell me more about that.. I'm hoping you have a safe dashboard now. peace.
@spamtree in John 6:63 it says it is the spirit that gives live, the flesh (Human effort) counts for nothing. sure Vinnie practiced Ten hours a day most of his life, but that wasn't all of it. It was God through Vinnie that put him over the top, and that's why most RnB/Gospel drummers are so influenced by him.
I love the Lord Jesus Christ and I've been a jazz fan for years. I've seen the greatest drummers like Steve Gadd, Rick Marotta and Chris Parker. They have a gift that is truly from God,but I believe they practice a lot too! I play keyboards and can improvise well listening to some jazz CDs, but some I can't play to at all. So....I'm going to take some online courses from Berklee. To God be the glory for He is the giver of gifts and music is one of those. God bless you all!!
what Vinnie did before has changed he is amazing drummer period. but he has found a new way of living through Christ .His drumming has inspired and motivated many drummers today including myself his decision to find Christ has brought this smile on his face an in his heart the experience he has gone through only explains him this is the way he expresses himself toward God.Many people know him and if you know him you should know he knows God and that is a major success button he chose to press
just as Rodgebi said: @bensoncarlos Well, you should not take a great offense about my thoughts, they are mine, I let you yours, to each his own...
If you were islamic you would say that Allah would be responsable of Vinnie's gift, you see what I mean ? Anyway, I love Vinnie, and I know him since begining 90s, all is great between us, have fun Carlos.
Vinnie was excellent before. But now...omg...He got Annointed and its blessing multitutes just because he let Jesus into his life.He definitely knows who the greatest drummer of all time is...God...No one else. What an inspiration to all of us.
@cansamuchonia - People have the choice of free will & what they do with the truth. Jerimiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you " declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
@cansamuchonia - What Vinnie & Teddy are talking about is encouragement & hope. That's what Jesus brings.the peace that surpasses all understanding, the hope for life after lost dreams, life's mistakes & even death.Having the faith to be a true believer in Jesus is not about keeping it to yourself, its about sharing it ,that's the good news.
@steldrums87 What's "too bad" is that people like this can not understand what it means in the life of Vinnie and millions of Christians around the world to have the spirit of Jesus in your heart, in your life.. but its all in the Bible, there will always be people like this.. but there's hope for you, just like when Vinnie was so depressed and lost in 1998.. the spirit of Jesus in his changed everything for him and because of that a LOT more people have come to know about Jesus. TOO COOL !!!!
@Rodgebi - So, why do some people relate his comments "I just pray.." to his drum ability. I saw Vinnie with Sting in the mid 90's (or around that time) and he was very depressing looking when he played, very lethargic with no "life" in his drumming, just going through the motions.. he found out about Jesus in 1998. Since then, his playing has got a LOT better, I mean he was always great, but I can tell a huge difference now.. he smiles when he plays, he looks like he's having fun and he plays >
@bensoncarlos It's true that God saved his life, sure his attitude is different maybe for the best in some ways sure, but I knew him at that time already, he was not that sad, and was killing the drums not for joke, he always did anyway.
@Rodgebi By Vinnie's own admission and testimony, he was a mess, maybe not on the outside, but on the inside he was in a dark time, and searching for truth. And if you really know him you know that he is changed and so has his drumming.. I know him, too.. I take great offense to your choice of words..WHY would you denounce the power of God to give Vinnie the gift of his talent, God gave him that gift LONG before Vinnie knew it.. the same thing happened with me. peas and lurve, Los <><
@bensoncarlos Well, you should not take a great offense about my thoughts, they are mine, I let you yours, to each his own...
If you were islamic you would say that Allah would be responsable of Vinnie's gift, you see what I mean ? Anyway, I love Vinnie, and I know him since begining 90s, all is great between us, have fun Carlos.
@Rodgebi > his attitude and the realization that the drum ability that he has been given is a "gift" and he doesn't take it for granted anymore. His "desire" to play the drums and to play for the Kingdom is what has taken him so much further than 1998 (and if you're a true student of Vinnie's drumology you KNOW that to be true). So, Vinnie prays to God that he will make him better (and not just in his drumming, but in life), to glorify God, and to thank him for his marvelous gift.
@Rodgebi So, in short, "how does he do that, or how does he do this? He prays man.. its a whole new world for Vinnie and you say that you are a Christian but to say that his ability coming from God is bull*^#* , mmm, I would have to question your belief that God can make even the number one drummer in the world BETTER and with purpose and exhuberance for life itself. Pray man, it works! <><
@hyde2042 I know Vinnie and I KNOW he practiced a LOT to get that good. I think what Vinnie is talking about when he says "I JUST PRAY" is in relation to the Jesus experience in his life since 1998. Jesus professes to excellence in love and in skill. The Christian realizes his gift is of GOD and we want to HONOR that gift by treating it with excellence, both w dedication, love and prayer.
Since 1998, I believe (which doesn't HAVE to be anyone's else's observation) that Vinnie has prayed for excellence with his drumming talents in both skill and CREATIVITY, which I believe have reached an almost 'supernatural' level with no end in sight. But, I DO agree with your statement.
@hyde2042@hyde2042 I know Vinnie and I KNOW he practiced a LOT to get that good. @Rodgebi You are funny!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! God bless you!!! God anointed Ben Tankard, the gospel jazz piano player and I don't think he ever played a note. I love Ben Tankard's music. Go check it out.
I'm telling you this now. Gospel drummers are the most dangerous Motherf***king drummers on the planet! Vinnie Colaiuta, Thomas Pridgen, Skeeter, Jeremy hanes, Eric Moore, Tony Royster jr., Jonathon Davis, and Many MANY others!
Insulting religious people is quite interesting to me - you're mad that they're happy / trying to make you happy? Especially someone like Teddy Campbell - he's not trying to shove his god in your face; he's just living. Leave those like Teddy alone, let them be happy.
@Pourhadi1 As it says in the Bible, those who truely follow Jesus will be hated. Fair?...no...but we proceed towards the kingdom regardless, and pray for the haters, who need Jesus as much as we do. God bless!!!
I don't get people's deal....Let the man talk about His Savoir! Everyone here just wants to start well prove this and prove that...blah! go ask someone else. And the let the dudes drum and talk about God.God's real, Jesus is real.... Faith,hope,love..is real! People only start saying well God's not real because religion,(people) are flawed! Wrong there's more to it!!! Go this video is about Drummer (famous ones) that love Jesus! Let it Go!!! and move on please to all the atheists!
Thx for responding.. blind faith bothers me too, passionate faith is really a different story, not in a "beat u over the head w a Bible" or "You're going to Hell if" kinda way, or fundamentalist hypocrisy - I'm talking about taking the time to search your spirit for truth - and yes, an online comment can change a mind, or at least start to.. peace and love.

It is true what many people ... not want to understand that God can change our way of thinking and acting .. and really happy for this great music ... God's servant ... I hope we meet ... there in heaven ... we can share together ... for eternity ... I see you in heaven ...=)
OK, first off, are u saying Vinnie should practice? If that's it then..hello, WAKE UP! It's Vinnie Coliauta, dig? and 2nd, I'll pray for you, that God could would open the eyes of your heart.. its just sad when people think drums and practicing are all there is.. I mean look at all th drummers, musicians that are led to Christ, doesn't that at least make u think that there may be something to it, but if its not your time, then its not your time.. I pray you will come to know Jesus. peace
Oh yeah, the rest of the world never turns to drink, drugs or religion.. its just musicians.. uh, WRONG.. doesn't matter what business or class of people or race or color or whatever the path.. being led to Christ is something some people will never understand and some people will ALWAYS make fun of.. so that's it, join us next week when we hear another sad commentary about former KORN guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch on "Great Musicians Turn Christian"
hmmm.but vinnie smokes...he has a clip on youtube at a gig in japan...he's an amazing drummers...but now we just we need more MINISTERS instead of christian musicians
People always are ready to JUDGE but the only one that is in a position to judge is God - so, Vinnie smokes and YOU JUDGE, whats the difference in God's eyes? Nothing, we are ALL his children, He loves in spite of our faults and sins, we are ALL fallen creatures.. and some are called to minister and some are called to be musicians.. mature yourself in the word my brother and stop w the judgement.. love and peace, these above ALL, thats what Jesus came to show,
Vinnie and David Sancious both left after the Mercury Falling tour in 1997. He has rejoined Sting from time to time when available including a few gigs in 2003 filing in after Manu Katche' joined his touring band.
Religious (in some peoples point of view) signifies "going through the motions" as in saying "that person cleans their house religiously" .. but in the case of Christianity, someone can be "religious" about going to church or giving money and still not have the love of Jesus in their heart. Being "religious" can be for "appearance" sake only. When you are following the teaching and way of Jesus Christ, hopefully people will see that "in you" without you being religious.
he does pray,ok but you've gotta study infinite hours to be like vinnie and even if you do you might not be as technical or tasteful as vinnie because, firstly:every player is different and secondly: you might have no talent on the instrument, because talent is also a factor that can have an impact on your playing.
I give Vinnie a lot of credit for boldly speaking about his beliefs. In the world of rock and jazz music, being known as a Christian reduces your "cred" and definitely goes against the grain. Teddy Campbell says some nice words here too.
haha... that's so preposterous...Have you checked the session drummers who make the annual MD "best", they're mostly "christian". Russ miller, Zoro, Bissonette... It does not go against the grain.Christianity is the grain... Do you really think that being "known" as a christian reduces Vinnies cred?!

When you are following the teaching and way of Jesus Christ, hopefully people will see that "in you" without you being religious.

he does pray,ok but you've gotta study infinite hours to be like vinnie and even if you do you might not be as technical or tasteful as vinnie because, firstly:every player is different and secondly: you might have no talent on the instrument, because talent is also a factor that can have an impact on your playing.

mi hermano bensoncarlos, muchas gracias por compartir este video, muy poca gente sabe que Vinnie Colaiuta le sirve al Señor.
ser cristiano es mas que cargar una biblia bajo el brazo, ser cristiano es una forma de vida.

I give Vinnie a lot of credit for boldly speaking about his beliefs. In the world of rock and jazz music, being known as a Christian reduces your "cred" and definitely goes against the grain. Teddy Campbell says some nice words here too.
davidnat440 3 years ago 5
haha... that's so preposterous...Have you checked the session drummers who make the annual MD "best", they're mostly "christian". Russ miller, Zoro, Bissonette... It does not go against the grain.Christianity is the grain... Do you really think that being "known" as a christian reduces Vinnies cred?!
