@breaguy I know what you are saying....I showed this video to my students and they were unclear as to why there was a few seconds clips of a boy doing karate in it. The video did not mention the karate kid but showed a boy doing karate. I showed this video as part of summer school where we are focusing on environmental issues. I just told them I wasn't sure why it was even in the video.
Joseph Hazelwood was entitled to time off? how about required by law. The whole crew was over on hours. since the coastguard gave permission to sail an outbound ship in the inbound lane, id say theirs alot more going on that you people care to acknowledge. besides where would all that oil be know? burnt up in the atmosphere. so who cares, were all dead anyway.
Capt. Hazelwood's driver's license was suspended or revoked 3x by state of New York for alcohol violations since 1984. At the time of the Exxon '89 Valdez incident, his NY state driving privileges were suspended as a result of a DUI arrest on Sept 1988. -- I was USCG licensed capt '95-'02, urine-tested for marijuana, not alcoholism. Week-old traces of THC were cause to terminate my livelihood, but it's not hard to find alcoholics legally driving at sea. Smoke that and think about whats wrong?
Personal ethics, responsibility, intoxication. Yeah, I'd say they're all important things to consider when millions of gallons of toxicitiy are in your hands.
@HUSKY57887 You are absolutely correct. It was his lack of understanding of his personal ethics that, in our view, allowed him to let something like this happen and to cause it to happen. We are asking young people to explore their ethics in advance so that they can rely on them when emergencies happen that can affect the whole world or at any other time.
NIKOLA TESLA could have saved us from this 100 yrs ago! please look it up, he created a wireless energy system that allowed energy to be obtained anywhere on earth! i put up info on my youtube and i demostrate a 20 ft wireless transmission to prove that the system works! we could build it right away and get off of this oil dependence, you can run cars wirelessly and never need oil again. please read tesla's "increasing human energy"
@allinaday you AND husky are both idiots. The man still has his Master's License and was acquitted for what happened, all he had to do was pay a fine. The 3rd Mate of the watch was the man who dropped the ball, and to this day the major Maritime College's in the country teach proper watchstanding and radar operation to avoid, "becoming another Gregory Cousins." The Third Mate had the watch and clear standing orders. To this day Mates take watches alone, but they KNOW WHEN TO CALL THE CAPTAIN.
@ShaolinFambo: what you say is correct, they or we (humans) shouldn't be doing oil drilling and extractions for our sake, for the sake of our planet and all species that live in it.
The top priority of the captain should be and most be, in his case the environment, not his crew or his ship; he was responsible for a tanker with oil, and knowns it's a hazardous material and leave it as its last priority, that's so wrong
You people are whack jobs. I worked on tankers for 10 years. Here's why the Valdez went aground:

@breaguy I do not understand your comment. I never said the karate kid had anything to do with my video.
