  • denzel washington mother fucker

  • Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer !!!

  • This is fabulous - forget comparisons, accept version for what it is.

  • Actually the original was an instrumental by trombonist, Kai Winding.

  • Excuse me, but what does Azazel mean?

  • Irma's version is the best!!!!

  • Oh, Irma---your voice gives me chills--love you, lady!

  • @gairid - chills for me too!

  • The Sopranos <3

  • I MET HER!!!!!!

  • Where did this version come from?

  • @Acoustyk

Irma Thomas released this in 1964; the Rolling Stones covered it.

  • Happy Birthday , Miss Irma. February 18 , 1941 . She still sounds great.

  • Happy Birthday , Miss Irma. February 18 , 1941 . She still sounds great.

  • OMG! The memories this brings back. Irma Thomas has such a unique voice and extraordinary talent. We were so very fortunate to have her in New Orleans when she could have been THE star anywhere else. She is truly New Orleans' First Lady of Music. Irresistable Irma!!!!! Now, I've got goosebumps.

  • Sing it Irma . . . wow!

  • what an amazing crystal clear voice

  • The photos look more like the 60s than 80s....can anyone confirm please?.

  • @paultess100

surely there not meant to be 80's?

irma was born in the 40's so this 60's music hence the pictures I assume

  • Fallen brought me here!

  • si bonita.... el tiempo esta de mi lado!!!

  • Anyone else remember going to hear and dance to Irma Thomas at the Golden Slipper on North 19th Street in Baton Rouge LA during the 60s? I did; she was great then and also put on a great show when I saw her again in the 80s. Geaux Tigers

  • Can anyone recall the Laborer's Union Hall on Tchoupitoulas St in New Awlins ? I went to many of those dances when I was a teen .F& M Patio was also nearby.Born, ,raised, left NOLA long time ago,but miss the romance and danger of the days.

  • @justcallmeassinine Sure do. And the concerts at the then Municipal Auditorium and Scotty's in the AM. Those were the days, but like you I left the romance and danger behind. LOL

  • @TheSocratease Thanks for the comment .I posted one on your channel. We might have crossed paths or seen each other anythings possible.I spent one year at Fortier High.

  • Is there irony in the fact that this video for an Irma Thomas song is made up primarily of white teenagers having a good time?

  • @weinerbongo You're so right! It's indicative of the times then. Us Colored folks were having our own parties though. Thank goodness!

  • this song scares me now after i saw the fallen, lol but good song tho

  • great voice!!!!

  • I love this! Classic!

  • Love you Irma!

  • Is this the original version of the song?

  • @ZLUGGO ... the original was by a Danish composer,.. then sang by New Orleans gal ... Irma Thomson and the Stones brought it up higher and higher on the tops ... here's the original (as a jazzy tune) KAI WINDING - TIME IS ON MY SIDE- VERSION ORIGINAL-1963

...enjoy it ... hope I was in help ...bye :-)

  • @laggie24

    Thank you. I appreciate that,

  • @laggie24 Do you recall when he played as half of "Jay & Kai" (the names rhyme in English, but probably not in Danish, because Danes know English better than Americans know Danish.)

Does Kai sing on the original? In the U.S., he's known only as a jazz trombonist.

  • Ohhhhhhhhhh... this tune always reminds me of a lovely friend who has gone already ahead

    ,- (

  • Great song, regarding the stills used in this video, they all come from the early 1980s and mainly from the Shepherds Bush nightclub Sneakers, which was run by Paul Hallam and me, Richard "Shirley" Early. The club featured rare R&B and soul music, and attendees wore sharp tailor-made clothing. If I recall correctly Paul took most of these pictures. I used to play this single because, while most wanted fast dancers like Sh'mon by Mr Dynamite, I also like to slow things down sometimes.

  • Mick knows how to learn from the very best. Irma nail this first!!!!

  • Nice pics too - what's the source?

  • good song

  • good song for always

  • So much POWER!!!

  • great song!!!

  • shame on the Beatles, no credit ever given to Irma for this.

  • @czascheergirl ... Shame on the Beatles? What do they have to do with it. It was the rollng stones who covered this without creaditing Irma .... Beatles never sang it.

  • Love this video. The montage of stills from the 60's evokes great memories of those days, smart Mods n all.

  • Love the 60's B/W stills - remember thos times well. Great song by the way :-)

  • mick jagger who the fuck is irma thomas

  • @GuitarLoveRiff

The Original, asswipe. Just as Mick Jagger

  • waa demons

  • fucking great.

  • Irma Thomas, one of NEW ORLEANS FINEST, an amazing talent and a GREAT LADY!!!!

  • Happy Birthday Irma! We Love You!

  • Heard this song on an episode of THE SOPRANOS, now I love it!

  • the sopranos is a great show

  • GREAT

  • I am so glad this lady is still with us. God Bless Irma Thomas! The new Queen of Blues - KoKo Taylor our departed Queen R.I.P. They performed together lots of times. I loved Irma's original version better than the Stones.

  • This is Irma's song! She rocks!

  • Way down in Louisiana this was on the Jukebox, not the Stones version. Thanks for the post!

  • I love the Stones, but this version is better.,and this was the B side!!!

  • The stones' version is good too!

  • after seeing fallen this song scares me : /

  • People criticize Pat Boone for ripping off back artist's songs and arranfgements in the 50s. How come nobody mentions

the Rolling Stones weak cabon copy of this great Irma Thomas work. Wonder how much money they stole from her by what they did?

  • they did a cover. The original writer of the lyrics and melody gets royalty from that. They are probably not unhappy.

  • cc1873cc, where did you get these photos showing in this video. They are amazing. I'm guessing this is your original video?

  • This is a song to listen to when you killed all the zombies and sit all alone at your cornfield and thinking about shooting yourself with a shotgun. :)

  • Funny!

  • hahaha funny

  • @ChoirWalker

That is the single best comment I've seen about any video on Youtube...

  • @ChoirWalker you need to get out of the house more

  • @ChoirWalker I hope you get the help you need.

  • This totally kills the rolling stones version.Original is always best....

  • Kai Winding did the original recording of this song, and I'm not sure it's the best...

  • What makes the Kai Winding version are the great background vocals of the original Sweet Inspirations - Dionne & Dee Warwick & Cissy Houston

  • I can't tell you how much I agree

  • this makes me feel like.... everything is gonna be allllllllright

  • wow...

i have a picture signed by her... she was my kindergarden teacher's sister and i met her when i was five but this is my first time actually hearing her

  • wow that's awesome!

  • yep too bad i was really too young to remember it much... lolz

  • WOuld someone PLEASE post "WHen you need somebody"? It's NOT on youtube at all.........

  • This is the original version, right?

  • Yes, Irma's version is the original. Her version came out in the summer of 1964, and the Stones' version came out about September in the US.

  • Thank you. I appreciate that.

  • This is the first version with lyrics. The first recording, done without lyrics, was by Kai Winding and his Orchestra in 1963.

  • Thank you. I appreciate that.

  • One of the queens of Soul music dinasty..

  • Great! Thanks for posting it

  • nice song lovely

  • Who are all the hipsters in the video?

I want to party with them!

Actually coolest video for the greatest song.

  • I saw Irma once as a child at my grammar school in Mississippi back in the eighties, then more recently in New Orleans. She has a lot of great material should be better acknowledged

  • Rolling Stones did a good job, but couldn't beat Irma!

  • @6motion6 You got that right! She sounds like Etta James.

  • @6motion6 Hard to beat the Stones' church organ intro, though.

  • @6motion6 I agree with you. Irma had some pipes and she used them well on this song..... Wish I had her soulful voice.. This is one of my favorites....

  • classic song, i sing it whenever i am down, brings me right up with a smile :D Love this.

  • my singing would pit me down haha thanks for your comment

  • @cc1873cc Wow! I didn't know that the Rolling Stones didn't sing the orginal?

  • @DBlockn05 Our entire lives are secretly on our side, brother.
