Is she supposed to be like a live manequin or something? She should get out and walk around and smile, and show the car like Vanna White would do. How strange. and she jumps out and disappears all of the sudden. ???
I had a 1968 'S' with a 455, a '70 'S' with a 350 and a '72 Supreme with a 350. The 455 in the 1968 was worn well, but the engine was still the strongest motor I have ever seen. From 0-50 mph the low end torque was awesome. it would spin the tires as long as you held your foot down, and spin them hard again when it changed to 2nd gear (TH400 trans). Way stronger than a Chevy engine. And it was stock.
Well, obviously there is a 100 C.I. difference there, so you do have to compare apples to apples. Compare the 350 Olds to the 350 Chevy and the 455 Olds to the 454 Chevy. Both Olds motors have way more low end torque and punch. Those who put Chevy motors in Cutlasses are either ruining the car or completely missing the point of having an Olds. The Olds motors have a very unique sound btw. Do not sound like a Chevy at all.
question i bought a 72 cutlass supreme it has its stock numbers matching 350 still in great shape but i want to go with the 455 do you think i should stay with the 350 or upgrade?
No one said this is really a factory 442! Ironically we have another '72 probably not a factory 442 and a guy is complaining that it says "Cutlass Supreme" on the glove box so THAT makes it a clone!! We state honestly that we don't know for sure without a build sheet! Thanks.
very nice car though i had restored the record breaking 1972 442 convertible which was a u code 455 factory flame orange car with white stripes and interior sold for $52000 at ataltic city auction last summer such a rare care best of luck

not all 442s were 4-speed. a lot were TH 400 trans.
bulletman100 3 years ago
Many 442s were factory automatics.

How fast would a 1972 Oldsmobile go with a dated 1968 455?

Ya, but thats a 350. How would it face to a 454,in chevelle, 1970-72

carboy2278 3 years ago
I would leave the car just the way it is. The 455 would have a little more low end torque, but get 2 to 4 mpg less than the 350.
the olds 350 stock engine is way more than enough for the street.
bulletman100 3 years ago
up grade if you can drop a good 455 under that hood do it youll be a happy man.

You could easily run the vin to check if its a factory 442....
jllego 3 years ago
You could do that up until 1971 but no longer on GM A bodies in 1972.

thats not a 442 because its an automatic a 442 has a 4 barrel carb 4 speed and duel exaust thats what makes it a 442. its a fake
lincolnmantrey 3 years ago
4 speed was true in 1965 only. All other years offered automatic 442's.
