instead of all this nonsense why doesnt the UN do its job and go kill them some warlords so the food and medicine drops stop getting seized. the impoverished african countries are impoverished because of corrupt governments. you want poverty to end, train the locals and overthrow those governments. otherwise every cent given will just go right in the pockets of psycho dictators who use 10 year olds as soldiers.
@JAT763 Well said. But if such a plan were implemented, many people would protest against the violence. It seems to me that many people can't face the fact that violence is,at times,a necessary condition for improving otherwise appalling conditions.
You all see how they're all wearing the white wristbands? THEY KNOW WHAT THEYRE SNAPPING FOR. And I'll bet you 100 bucks none of them got paid to do this ad. :P
Who said they were paid. Large assumptions made people. Generally ads for development cases are arranged by NGOs and charity organisations which do not pay for this. They chose celebrities, specifically as they are influential (like it or not). Who said that they do not donate money? Anyone in the Western world that can afford take away coffee and bottled water, can afford to help these people! Stop bitching and work out how YOU can make a difference. We all have the power to!
People are rich because of their talent and lucky... But who doesnt want to be rich and famous and made a clip for poverty with cliking their fingers with style? And i think they help people who need and it just has to have famous people because we pay more atention and be more inspired... thats how we work.
I remember when I was 15 and the teacher put this ad on during a lesson to get us to think. Once it was over we sat in sullen silence for a moment, before some kid started clicking his fingers jovially and said "I'm killing people".
The people in this video alone could make poverty history if the really wanted to. Or maybe they just like to be praised for giving 1% of their fortune to organizations that make money off of poverty.
At the make poverty history campaign bono says 'every 3 seconds a child dies, every time i click my fingers, every 3 seconds' and clicks his fingers every 3 seconds. Suddenly someone shouts from the back 'WELL STOP FUCKING CLICKING YOUR FINGERS THEN!'
It doesnt make a differnece if we donate a x amount of money to the poor they will continue to die our donation just prolongs the process to really change something we have to change the system to a system in which poverty isnt possible to arise.By donating a x amount of oney we just buy ourselfs a clear conscience. Watch this It doesnt make a differnece if we donate a x amount of money to the poor they will continue to die our donation just prolongs the process.
you do no that the celebrities in this video did NOT get paid.. they did it voluntararly so all you people bitchin about them.. Just think they actually doing something and look at Brad Pitt... he done something for these kids.
Do we actually care about the celebrities in this ad and how much they earn?? Or do we care about making poverty history, making these disasters history.
Everyone is complaining and bitching about how these are celebrities in this ad, they're so rich and they don't give a damn, blah, blah, blah. Even if they did get paid, at least they're using their high proflie status to get this issue back into the public eye.
If there were just a bunch of 'normal' people in this, as sad as it sounds, it wouldn't be as popular. Not as many people would have paid attention.
Maybe you could act on this, instead of bitching about the people who already have.
don't tell us about it you rich bastards, the rich get richer and they come telling us about the poverty in the world when they can resolve it themselves but just want our money so that they can get richer. I'd like to say to the makepovertyhistory campaign a warm and heartfelt fuck off and die you cunts.

another three seconds gone, and a new born child has just died, in the arms of it's mother, or just alone in an abandoned hut of a village.
i'm a part of the Generate program, 18-25 yr olds who organise events and fundraise for poverty stricken people. over the next two years we're focusing on Timor Leste (East Timor).
i find it annoying how someone like pdiddy stands there and dus that when we know how filthy rich he is! he could x10 whatever money I give! I still give to charity though.
you people make me sick. saying these people are two faced and hypocrites. did you even go to live 8? they aked for NO money. they asked for a text message or an email so the people would keep there promise to help with poverty. you people aren't thinking about the real cause. these people at the consert took out so much time and DIDN'T get paid that much to do this. maybe you should actully go to the website and read it before you start talking shit.
oh okay, after they got payed 15 grand to click their fingers in this video they drove back to their multi million doller mansions to plan their next holiday
oh booo hooo celebrities are rich! it's not their fault that you idiots go out buying all their merchandise and then turn around and criticise them because they have money. you gave it to them!
but now they are using their influence for good, so shut up!
well the thing is i dont think half the cerlebrities in this video kno what there snapping for and the ones that do know i bet they dont care cuz if they did they care they wouldnt just be using their "influence"as you say. They should be using there money to help....like you said they got money from peoplw buying there stuff...they got money for homes that cost MILLIONS of dollers that they fill with lots of expensive item that they dont need and they have like 5 or more expensive cars.
yeah but they do give money to charity. what more do u want them to do? there will always be rich people and poor people. they worked hard for their money and shouldnt be criticised because it's not their fault so many people are poor and they can't fix it alone.
well they made s lot of money on this thing and all thay did was snap there fingers...and acting is not that hard anyone can do it....and the money they do give to charity its not even a lot to help out
@ADSTGREY Actually most these people have done something, theres a reason why this advert has these people in the ad. These are the people who have done something. No offence but what have u done to help??
That's totally unjustified, Yes. there rich. well done for noticing that. But this is a video around Live 8, which was a massive event that over 3 billion people attended. and that is a massive commitment to make happen and they raised alot of publicity for there cause.
These celebrities set in motion those 3 billion donations through this, so instead of you being so self righteous & undermining of peoples efforts, how about YOU go out and do something beneficial for the world
What they're doing is a great idea, but don't they understand that we are just people? They want everyone to do something, when we all have serious porblems of our own. I don't have health insurance so when I get sick, I am screwed, and I have to worry about every one else? They have more money then I could ever dream of and they want us to do what? I can barely even afford college and I only make 6.65 an hour, I have my own poverty, so I can't really deal with the world's.
End global poverty? This is quite naive and grandiose. Can we all take a step back out of the Hollywood bubble, where everything ends up great at the end, and realize that this is real life. The sixteen celebs in this video could probably adopt as many third world countries with there own money. So who is stopping you? Go out there and save the world. I'll stay here and try to deal with the tax hikes put upon me by the political party that all celebs continue to shill for.
child poverty will never be avoidable becuase wonce youve helped one lot another lot of childen get born into poverty its 99% unavoidable sorry but its the truth
Make 'shameless celebrity self promotion' history only 450 pounds would buy us a machine gun and enough bullets to waste away all these self promoting bastards!
shut up ur all being stupid fighting about how they have money & they should help it does'nt matter admit it most of you were more likely to watch this vid because celebrity's were involved....it's true not all of you but most.....does it really matter .. all that counts is right now people are dying & we have the power to save them
Phew, that's a relief. I thought I'd actually have to do something to help improve my human brothers' and sisters' station in life, but I'm so glad this has been cleared up for me. Now, where are my sweatshop-made shoes? I need to get me to the store and consume.
That's called "irony", AngelxFace08. I was trying to make a point, in response to PabZ2K's dismissive comment. Of course I don't believe what I said. I get concerned when people make blanket statements about "it's impossible to fix world poverty", and all they're really doing is giving themselves an excuse to not get involved.
And PabZ2K may not be like this, but the comment needed a response.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's their own fault that they die of poverty. There's fresh meat everywhere, and that is the meat of weaker and sicker children. We should feed the poor and sick to the less poor and sick. Besides that, children taste great. Their meat is so tender and bakes very evenly.
you think the celebrities that did this actually give their money to help them no but some people belive they do so that they will give money and i bet u they got paid for doing this celebrities dont give a fuck about this y should some of us
Just because they "don't give a fuck" it doesn't mean that you should automatically be the same. Yes, they might be stingy bastards and they might not give a fuck, but I don't see why their behaviour should make any difference to your commitment to the idea of making poverty history.
How you can watch a charity advert with Bob Geldof in it then say that he doesn't give a fuck? are you the only person in the west that hasn't heard of Live Aid?.
XtreameCone does have a point though. The rich are the ones who can really make a difference, but choose not to because they'd rather keep their money.
wow imagine if all those celebs gave there money how many they'd save, but no they expect the tax payer (something they avoid doing to do it) hypocrites
Wow, your sympathetic. Washing meat or your hands isn't easy when your running water system is either dirty or non-existant. It is appalling you would compare the ongoing African poverty crisis with abortion, which I'm sure many Nigerian families wished they had access to.
You're right, for a change...I am sypathetic. I don't enjoy seeing people die (human death rate last time I checked is 100%). I don't enjoy seeing someone dying of AIDS, it's heartwrenching. AIDS key word is ACQUIRED though, and while children born with it don't choose it, their parents did. Just like an abortive mother choosing to have here child almost fully delivered, then dismembered (in pain) an then have its skull crushed and cleverly sucked out, so my sympathy goes towards both cases.
I think Nigerian families wished they had the resources to prevent pregancies they don't want, form monogamous relationships, strong moral values and instill them in their children they can support, rather than have access to routine abortive services, regardless of the stage...23 million females aborted in the US since Roe, so much for women's rights. Her body, her choice, so why does the man then have to pay if she keeps it, didn't he contribute half, she should pay him if she aborts.
Yes, poorly prepared meat CAN contain anthrax. I happen to enjoy life, but I wouldn't if I was an accident who ended up as a foster child, moving from place to place every few months and never knowing my true family.
It can also contain Salmonella spp., Listeria spp., Campylobacter spp., Staph spp., and any other microbe. But as you said poorly prepared meat, tell them to wash their hands and get over this anthrax thing. But anthrax is soilborne, and reflects hygiene issues, or of course terroism.
Meat doesn't contain anthracis bacilli, it is a disease primarily confined to wool-sorters and the like, and is not contagious. I find that all the pro-choice peole seem to have one thing in common (aside from filthy mouths), they all happen to have been BORN. Seems you would feel differently if you were on the other end, or don't you enjoy life? And caring for a "creature" that is totally dependent on its mother (gee, how else would anyone be born?) is sort of humane and kind, egh?

It seems you would have a different attitude if you you weren't yet born, or don't you enjoy life? And defending something dependent on its mother...well that's kind of humane thing to do...
You conservative pro-life CUNT-you care more about a creature that is completley depedant on its mother and will probably be disowned the second it is born if it is not aborted more than kids who can't eat because all of the meat has anthrax? You fucking disgust me.

So while you celebrities are snapping off each life lost to poverty and AIDS (the ONE campaign), think about this too: In 1973, America's unborn children lost their legal protection. In the 14 years since then, some twenty million unborn babies, 1.5 million each year, have lost their lives by abortion -- in a nation of 242 million people. This tragic and terrible toll continues, at the rate of more than 4,000 young lives lost each day.
Yes, help us, the celebrities who make enough money to feed a third-world country for a year, make ourselves look like we care about starving children by giving them money to this organization. By the way, 6% of these donations will go to us, because those thousands of dollars we receive in royalties for doing these commercials will help us maintain our hundreds of maids, butlers, and chauffeurs with their minimum-wage salaries.
The same people in this video would probably be protesting against "Corporate American Exploitation" if companies were incentivised to create jobs for the starving poverty-stricken masses in Africa...but that is the BEST way (and ONLY way I know of) to truly make a difference toward eradicating poverty.
"poverty is avoidable"... preaches the people who live in mansions. preaches the people who wear designer clothing. preaches the people who have maids, butlers, drivers, chefs, pilates instructors. preaches the people who after shooting this commercial will get into their porsches and drive back to their beverly hills castles. haha. thank god I have a sense of humor.
Well we're certainly glad of your contribution, we know we'll never eradicate poverty without A BUNCH OF IMBECILES SITTING ON THE SIDELINES AND SNEERING BECAUSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ENVIABLE LIFESTYLES GIVE A FUCK ABOUT PEOPLE WHO DO NOT. THANKS A FUCKING BUNDLE, CHUCKLES. COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU.
dude, I used to be homeless myself, I lived in a fucking shelter in Hollywood for 6 months when I turned 18. clearly I can see the irony of the situation better than you, you know, having been one of the "imbeciles sitting on the sidelines" I'm not bashing ENDING poverty, I'm just pointing out some good ol fashioned irony. I choose to laugh at stuff like this so I don't cry.

POVERTY seems to be caused by 2 things.
1. Rich countries who subsidise their farmers.
2. Poor countries competing against each other to produce the lowest cost goods.
The Solution
is for the UN to direct the IOC, FIFA, Formula One, A1GP, MotoGP, and other sporting bodies NOT to hold international competitions in countries who
1. Subsidise their farmers
2. Don't have a minimum wage
Apartheid in South Africa was sorted out by sport. There is no reason why other issues can't be.

yeah but they do give money to charity. what more do u want them to do? there will always be rich people and poor people. they worked hard for their money and shouldnt be criticised because it's not their fault so many people are poor and they can't fix it alone.
92ZacEfron 3 years ago
well they made s lot of money on this thing and all thay did was snap there fingers...and acting is not that hard anyone can do it....and the money they do give to charity its not even a lot to help out

I can barely even afford college and I only make 6.65 an hour, I have my own poverty, so I can't really deal with the world's.

tartbones 3 years ago 9
End global poverty? This is quite naive and grandiose. Can we all take a step back out of the Hollywood bubble, where everything ends up great at the end, and realize that this is real life. The sixteen celebs in this video could probably adopt as many third world countries with there own money. So who is stopping you? Go out there and save the world. I'll stay here and try to deal with the tax hikes put upon me by the political party that all celebs continue to shill for.

Ahhh, well... yes...
I was wondering if it was too subtle. :)

It's their own fault that they die of poverty. There's fresh meat everywhere, and that is the meat of weaker and sicker children. We should feed the poor and sick to the less poor and sick. Besides that, children taste great. Their meat is so tender and bakes very evenly.

XtreameCone 4 years ago
Just because they "don't give a fuck" it doesn't mean that you should automatically be the same. Yes, they might be stingy bastards and they might not give a fuck, but I don't see why their behaviour should make any difference to your commitment to the idea of making poverty history.
ralphg0245 4 years ago
How you can watch a charity advert with Bob Geldof in it then say that he doesn't give a fuck? are you the only person in the west that hasn't heard of Live Aid?.
IzzyDeadyet 4 years ago
XtreameCone does have a point though. The rich are the ones who can really make a difference, but choose not to because they'd rather keep their money.
Still, little people can help too.

Wow, your sympathetic. Washing meat or your hands isn't easy when your running water system is either dirty or non-existant. It is appalling you would compare the ongoing African poverty crisis with abortion, which I'm sure many Nigerian families wished they had access to.
possiblyso 4 years ago
You're right, for a change...I am sypathetic. I don't enjoy seeing people die (human death rate last time I checked is 100%). I don't enjoy seeing someone dying of AIDS, it's heartwrenching. AIDS key word is ACQUIRED though, and while children born with it don't choose it, their parents did. Just like an abortive mother choosing to have here child almost fully delivered, then dismembered (in pain) an then have its skull crushed and cleverly sucked out, so my sympathy goes towards both cases.
genrethan 4 years ago
I think Nigerian families wished they had the resources to prevent pregancies they don't want, form monogamous relationships, strong moral values and instill them in their children they can support, rather than have access to routine abortive services, regardless of the stage...23 million females aborted in the US since Roe, so much for women's rights. Her body, her choice, so why does the man then have to pay if she keeps it, didn't he contribute half, she should pay him if she aborts.

Yes, poorly prepared meat CAN contain anthrax. I happen to enjoy life, but I wouldn't if I was an accident who ended up as a foster child, moving from place to place every few months and never knowing my true family.
possiblyso 4 years ago
It can also contain Salmonella spp., Listeria spp., Campylobacter spp., Staph spp., and any other microbe. But as you said poorly prepared meat, tell them to wash their hands and get over this anthrax thing. But anthrax is soilborne, and reflects hygiene issues, or of course terroism.
genrethan 4 years ago
Meat doesn't contain anthracis bacilli, it is a disease primarily confined to wool-sorters and the like, and is not contagious. I find that all the pro-choice peole seem to have one thing in common (aside from filthy mouths), they all happen to have been BORN. Seems you would feel differently if you were on the other end, or don't you enjoy life? And caring for a "creature" that is totally dependent on its mother (gee, how else would anyone be born?) is sort of humane and kind, egh?

genrethan 4 years ago
You conservative pro-life CUNT-you care more about a creature that is completley depedant on its mother and will probably be disowned the second it is born if it is not aborted more than kids who can't eat because all of the meat has anthrax? You fucking disgust me.

Every minute, 3 children are murdered.
This tragic and terrible toll continues, at the rate of more than 4,000 young lives lost each day.
genrethan 4 years ago
Yes, help us, the celebrities who make enough money to feed a third-world country for a year, make ourselves look like we care about starving children by giving them money to this organization. By the way, 6% of these donations will go to us, because those thousands of dollars we receive in royalties for doing these commercials will help us maintain our hundreds of maids, butlers, and chauffeurs with their minimum-wage salaries.
possiblyso 4 years ago
I'd rather not end poverty at all than be influenced by a bunch of fucking faggots, and do it for the wrong reasons.
