  • i used to have a very cheap wake up light. the sounds were repetitive and very artificial, and therefore very annoying. i hope philips has considered this. anyone know about this? thank you

  • Why did you film this? More importantly, why did I watch it?

  • Usually I wake up wit a huge sound of FART.

    My gf have gastric problem.

  • sir it is 94 seconds long

  • I have one of those now for many years and it is great for winter. During summer I wake up by sunlight around 6 in the morning. In Winter, daylight comes only around 8. But the lamp simulates a (fast) sunrise so there is light in my room at 6h30 and, like in summer, I am actually awake - or in a light sleep phase - when the music starts playing. No more hard wake-ups. Only negative point : its plastic and it makes some cracking noise when getting warm or cooling down.

  • What kind of Light source is used in it? my homemade Wake up light uses a High pressured Sodium lamp 70W. it takes about two minutes from start to a full power. Luminous Flux it has aboout 5900- 6600lm(it depends on a type of HPS Which one i'm using, standard or some with Extra Output)

  • @george911751 Sadly you dont want that type of light to inhibit melatonin. You want a lamp which has light in a lower spectrum. Like a mercury lamp.

  • @Macatho today i know about this much more. and this time i know, that my version is more effective. this wake up ligt uses 300w halogen lamp, and needs some electronic ballast for a changing intensity of light from low to full. HPS it can make this effect too, and on a the same switch you can use some radio too. and if you donť like a orange colour of light, you can buy some Methal Halide bulb in a ceramic technology... it works on the same ballast like HPS . and ceramic Methal halide, has...

  • @george911751 very high colour reproduction. and with lifetime over 15 000h with consumption only 85W with ballast and luminous flux approx 6600lm it is a ideal combination, and i can not forget on the burning position.

Halogen used in wake up light is double ended, 300W with lifetime 1000-4000h and luminous flux 5000lm and burning position is only horizontal, the HPS and Methal halide ceramic has buring position universal. that is all about.

  • There is no way that thing would wake me up. I'm getting something loud and something I can put my own music in.

  • i see you put it on snooze at the end =]

  • I really love the idea, but will it wake me? I'm kinda scared I'll sleep through it lol.

  • ooh, i like the bird sound

  • The ideia is good, but then you look at the price for something that could cost 30 bucks and you go nuts.

  • 94 seconds

  • Mmm, we have real birds tweeting whenever we wake up :-)

  • i would never, but never wake up with that xD

  • when i woke up there is already a lot of light in my room, :S

  • Peaceful Progression Wake Up Clock seems better.. at least it comes with the scented beads like pepperment or lavender that are warmed up by the light

  • it's better and cheaper to leave the windows opened

  • @6yeksa /cheers!

  • I'd through a shoe at the thing!

  • Absolutely overpriced.

  • I agree with other guys who said that they would sleep through this light.. I'm on the lookup out for SAD lights combined with a wake up alarm. SAD light are bright as hell an would take your eyes out if you star at it directly..

Correct me if I'm wrong but these are no SAD lights are they>

  • They aren't SAD lights

  • @SocialAdventurer Nope there not.

Did you end up getting an SAD light/ wake up light in the end?

Might just get a decent priced SAD light and plug it into a timer socket (I know it won't gradually get brighter but hoping it might still work pretty well).

  • that bird song would just piss me of in the morning making me wish I had a shotgun, that is if it would make me wake up, witch I don't think it would :P

  • There is a newer model out now... here: watch?v=91OitvwqCe8

  • alright, that would NOT wake me up :P

  • yea it doesn't exactly look like sunlight, or even nearly as bright as normal room lightning. with cos with sunlight the whole room would be lighted up. when are they gonna release 2000 lux version of this, or atleast 1000lux? then i'll buy one

  • Yeah, I would sleep right through that.

  • probably not, unless you have a pituitary tumor or problem. when light goes through your eyelids, it stimulates your endocrine system and provides the signal for waking. it's pretty tough to beat what your body was designed to do, which is why sound-based alarm clocks waking you in total darkness is basically beating your system up.

  • Yeah, I would sleep right through that.

  • So you have a tumor or disease, then. Go to a doctor.

  • Yes sir. I'll obey random stranger on YouTube that decided to sound smart to everyone on a random video of an alarm clock. Cool.

  • No, sir. I don't know that any doctor has a cure for "stupid stubborn prick" in any case. Skip the appointment and sleep in, since you apparently aren't human (and human-type things just a'don't works on you) but instead a dumb donkey pud who sleeps through postively everything! and anything! -- except of course for those rare opportunities to come off just as dumb as sea foam. Good luck, ninny.

  • Yeah, I'd sleep right through that.

  • Me too. lol

  • I get the sense you've slept through a lot.

  • Hahaha dude lighten up! I'm messing with you and totally getting the best of you. Enjoy life bro! Have some fun. I'm just joshin with you.

    Peace

  • Wait, i'm just messing with YOU!

  • Nice try... lol

    :D

  • That thing looks awesome! Congrats on the purchase.

  • This was the one I wanted to get but they dont sell them in canada, or with a canadian/america plug - so id have to buy a converter as well... So i got the biobright one, not as good - but itll have to do.

  • Бред, у меня восточная сторона, солнце каждое утро встает (вроде как) и мне как то сложновато встать.

  • интересно какой город... у нас вот в питере с октября по февраль солнце видно только часам к девяти-десяти утра. так что очень в тему.

  • that was meant as a reply to articocean about not being about to completely shut off the sound. somehow clicking the reply button didn't work for me.

  • Is this the one with the sea and frog sounds? I'd love to hear an example of those sounds, but can only find the birds everywhere... would you be able to help?

  • If you take the sound down to zero to switch sound off, has anyone noticed that it still plays the sounds when alarm goes off, be it though very very quietly.

It does so on my one and i am not sure whether if all of them are like that or just the one i have is broke.

Anyone care to test out with theirs and let me know?

  • yes, mine does that too. I also saw someone else complaining about that.

  • I have it myself too but it just doens't wake me up :(

  • That would be my worry too!

  • sweet TV!

  • can you use this one like a normal sad box? I've been doing a bit of research and the other typical light box with alarm hasn't got a radio alarm

  • is that the 300 lux or the brighter 400 lux (with radio)version and where did you get it =]

  • It's the 400 lux version with radio. I bought it at a local electronics store here in Stockholm, Sweden.

  • how much was it?

  • about 200 $ i think

  • @dafeld vart köpte du den?? teknikmagasinet?

  • Are the birds real, or part of the alarm clock?

  • They are a part of the alarm clock.

  • @kelseywall in each device Philips locks a bird ;))

so PETA declared war on Philips but they couldnt wake up on time because they dont have the 'wakeuper'

  • i wouldn't want to wake up to that with an hangover..

  • hmh... only works in winter i think ^^... even when i have to get up early, the sun is shining and there is noise outside. That little light and "bird-sounds" are not enough (having an american airbase very close)

  • i bought this light 3 months ago. it works really well for me. ^^

  • Ya, i remember once i was in Norway for a year, the winter was horrible! u just dun see the sun XDDD

  • axbo is way mutch cooler!!!

  • whats axbo?

  • gonna get one for sure.

  • I have one too and it is very expensive, and it doesn't work. And the light is very sharp

  • I like the concept, but I'm still going to think fuck off, hit the button and go back to sleep. I don't care whether it's light, birds, beeps or the Luftwaffe that wakes me up, I just generally don't like to be woken up.

  • LOL @ Luftwaffe

  • The whole point of this wake-up light is that you are not woken up; you wake up.

  • no sound in video.

  • There is sound, just turn the volume up (like really high). The bird sound starts around 01:04 in the movie.

I filmed it with a camera usually used for still images, that's why the sound isn't optimal.

  • yeah i hear it every time i watch the video now, haha. my bad. I wish I could afford one of these. $80 is kinda steep. simple design.

  • $80!!, in Denmark it costs $180???

  • €130,- in Holland at the Dixons, maybe it's worth the trip? :P

  • Really nice!

  • Lol ! yeah good point ! :D

  • expensive clock mate...

  • Here in the nordic countries you really need som light to wake up smoother in wintertime. It works well.
