If we could end poverty by attacking the factors that lead to it (i.e. corruption), then we have a better chance of ending the conflict in Mindanao and making some positive changes in our country.

I've heard of the US and the Philippines having counter terrorism exercises and stuff but has any terrorist attacks actually happened yet in the Philippines? Also, are these terrorist groups Filipino or Arab? Thank you.

    By "rebel groups" I meant exactly just that -- rebels. Examples, are the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, a group of radical Filipino Muslims who want to severe Mindanao from the Philippines and become an Islamic nation, and the New People's Army (NPA), which is a communist group headed by Jose Maria Sison.

    In that post I wrote 5 months ago, I should have also mentioned "terrorists" because there are, in fact, terrrorist groups here in the Phils. like the Abu Sayyaf and the Indonesian terrorist unit, "Jameyah Islamiyah." Both are linked to Al Qaida, and are reported to have been working with the MILF and other Muslim rebels in Mindanao.

    Another terror attack that occured here was the "Rizal Day" bombings on Dec. 30, 2000. It was a simultaneous bomb attack at five different locations in Manila that claimed many innocent lives.

Filipinos nowadays live in their own country with no money and not a word they can read, because education, which is supposed to be a right, is now a product to sell to the rich. Obviously, they don't turn out rich. Why? Because the government steals what little they have.

Extra judicial killing, who's to say the NPA didn't do it, they have a long list of killing amongst their people going back since the 80's. 100% foreign ownership is done all over the world, USA, Dubai included.   • You don't know jack about national debt.We've increased our national debt because that money is spent modernizing and building infrastructure. Building new airports, trains, roads, sea ports, irrigations, class rooms etc.These infrastructures are necessary for an economy to grow, it's what you call "investments". The result of these investments is a higher GDP and ability to pay off that borrowed money or what you call"balanced budget". GMA's tough decisions has put our economy back on track.

  • Just for your info I live in the Philippines. I said I "lived" in the US, the "d" makes it past tense. Well there's been 12 million jobs created since 2004 and 1.4 deployed OFW's since 2001. 96,000 classrooms created and 4,019 computer labs. Minimum wage has increased 35% for private sector workers since 2001. Because we have a "balanced budget" the national debt is now decreasing not increasing.Global crisis sucks but Philippines is doing better than most countries. Stop drinking hateorade.

  • I strongly agree. Because of this, most Filipinos lost their morality and discipline towards others and to themselves. They've become pessimistic and cynical (not sure if both words are also the same). I just hate how most Filipinos feel like everything's bad from their surroundings.   • Filipinos have proven to be VERY supportive of their Presidents--but only duly elected ones. After Marcos, Cory, Ramos and even Estrada in his early Presidency, were well supported by the people. Gloria had the same support when she took over from Estrada. The problem is she betrayed this trust and kept on avoiding accountability. If only she cleared her name instead of using her strong political machinery to avoid investigations, the Filipinos would still have supported her.

  • I love the Philippines!...nice country...nice people..good food..adobo eggplant is my favorite..I think the head cook at the white house is Filipina. I studied there at the Adventist University of the Philippines..I am African American who loves the Philippines. President Macapagal is trying her best but she has so much opposition in her country...The economy is doing pretty good I think..I wish the Filipino people all the best..they deserve the best...good people...friendly people!
