Since Florida and most other states have No-Fault Divorce, it's totally absurd to have one spouse, simply because of their history of earning an income, to support the other spouse...For The Rest of Their Life!
No-Fault Divorce should Demand Transitional Alimony, allowing for the transition into being unmarried and self-supporting. Personal Responsibility is lacking for those able but unwilling to support themselves. Florida Alimony Reform is working to change Florida's Laws.
ironically, what the courts are saying by awarding LIFETIME alimony, is that women are the lesser of the species, incapable of taking care of themselves financially, I had always thought that the emancipation proclamation freed all slaves, Guess that doesn't apply to people in divorce situations, and you wonder why hard working people who have never been to jail in their life can become a criminal, this is an ABSOLUTE SHAME on the state of Florida.
Lifetime Alimony is equivalent to absolute slavery, do you think if courts were to jail several hundred out of work people for non payment, this issue would get the attention it deserves, it's time our legislators realize just what they have done to hard to their constituents, 2/3 of all " no fault" divorces are filed by women yet 98 percent of all alimony payers are men. Where's the ERA now, seems that by awarding alimony the courts are assinging fault
To continue, notice how Fox host asks that if alimony is reduced when someone lost their job, where do they continue paying it from, 401k, savings account or what. ANOTHER INJUSTICE. Why on earth should the payor, once they lose their income that was paying alimony, have to continue paying from their 401k when during the divorce, the 401k was split!?!?!?! Why does the payor have to sacrifice everything when the payee has no skin in the game?
Point 1, Alimony is adult support, has nothing to do with child support for those that may be confused.
Point 2, amazing to even think that someone receiving alimony should continue to get it one way or another if the payor has lost their job. That is one of the injustices of alimony. Alimony is perceived to be a GUARANTEED income source which comes from a NON-GUARANTEED job!!!!
