  • got it

  • Like at 3:19, when the key is held down, does that mean it is held down with the pedal? If it does, is this only one person playing? If not, is this two people playing on one piano?

  • I believe its just one person playing, It is created off a MIDI file, and they sometimes have strange gliches depending on the device on which they were recorded - in this case, yes, the keys remain pressed down when this is really only due to the pedal.

  • @KevinBeethoven - This video was generated from a player piano roll, for the 'Ampico' reproducing system. The pianiste, Margaret Volavy, recorded this some time between 1912-1917. Until the 1920s, the Ampico system frequently used 'note extensions' to simulate half-pedalling, or use of the sostenuto pedal, and also because they felt it helped the mechanical player system reproduce the pianists 'tone'. If you search Youtube for real Ampico pianos playing early rolls you'll notice the same effect.

  • although im sure it wasnt the intended use for this video its actually helping me to learn this piece :P so much appreciated, 5 stars!
