  • Good Job Captain, it was a good landing with the problems you were given (1 engine, short final, max weight :-) I too am a 747-400 pilot!

  • Thanks Cpt! Also, what is the highest min. clean speed you have seen after taking off at MTOW........I'm guessing 270ish kts?[below 10k-then 320ish kts up to cruising alt]

  • Vref was about 190 for flaps 25, which gave me a target speed of 195 on short final. Vref wouldn't have changed with all the engines operating. FYI, I had to land with flaps 25 as opposed to flaps 30, because the flaps will not go to flaps 30 above 178 knots, and the Vref for flaps 30 is only 6 knots lower than for flaps 25, so I would have had to stall the airplane to get it to go to flaps 30, which is obviously highly undesirable when operating on only 1 engine at MTOW.

  • What was the VREF? And I thought I heard "flaps 25" and 203kts? Also, how much different would the VREF have been with ALL the engines operating and landing at MTOW....

  • can a 747 takeoff beyond max take off weight?

  • @averredude101

    Depends on the runway:

    Short runway- no

    Long runway - risky

    very long runway- yes

  • MTOW ???? WOW !!!

  • Actually it was a smooth landing, considering the large, late, asymmetric thrust change on short final I had to deal with.

  • Wow, that looked like a hard landing, with the plane swerving a little bit before landing... or was that a bad camera man...

  • Sweet......real pro there..!
