  • realmente bueno.........jhon coltraine...

  • I heard of John Coltrane. Never listened to his stuff until I stumbled upon this. Beautiful stuff.

  • a message to god

  • This is so beautiful it makes me cry. God doesn´t exist but Coltrane did, and thats enough.

  • man l love this guy

one of the only sax catz

to play with there eyes open

    digg it

  • class

  • anyone else notice the drummer is on fire in more ways than one at 1:05?

  • @loadthemat ha he is. crazy.

  • Oh yes! Was a freezing night in a open space gig, reaction with the body heat...steam..

  • plagal cadence :'((

  • coltraine é indiscritivel sem palavras

  • are they playing outside i can see his breath when he's playing the upright

  • this is it.

  • this is a philosophy, not music

  • So inspired by this Coltrane piece in particular through studying/performing it in my undergraduate jazz studies course and combo classes that years later upon being blessed with a beautiful female siberian husky puppy, I quite naturally named her "Naima". Today sadly is the 2nd anniversary of Naima's death. And although I will never forget what a great friend & companion she was, whenever I hear this tune aside from experiencing a brief "heavy heart" moment, I think of her and smile : )

  • My favorite video of all time. So grateful to have found this. Holy holy.

  • Coltrane is truly in inspiration to me, my jazz teacher taught me how to play this song and I never forgot it! Incredible.

  • Take note how he doesn't stay on stage for the applauds, the sign of a true artist... he realizes the gift is a gift, and could never come from him...

  • two comments 1. the upright bass needs an electronic pickup 2. what ever happened to juanita naima grubbs

  • incredible

  • 6:55 -7:03 most subtly aggresive event in this song. what a way to end.

  • Wait a minute I'm pretty sure that's Reggie Workman.

  • I'm not positive but through those facial expessions and playing style i'd say its garrison

  • You're probably right, I didn't really recognize Garrison here, dunno

  • That isn't jimmy garrison on the upright bass is it?

  • aww man! 5 stars!

  • The master,

and listen to the rhythm section

at 0:30 min Elvin Jones invents Hip Hop.

  • Excellent..

Coltrane is the best think for my dark room now... thanks amigo!

  • woooow it's greaaaat

  • 2:36 - 2:37 that is the most beautiful chord ever played.

  • I don't spot it but I absolutely love it that you love it. There are so many great chords. I will listen again - no hardship.

  • its the one around those two seconds, after the buildup, its the first chord he plays right after he hits the root. I actually think it might be at 2:38 or 2:39

  • 4:19 is driving me pretty nuts as well

  • Great stuff. But if you want the perfect chord listen to The Black and Ragged Blues by Roland Kirk at 1.35. Now that is the perfect chord played by Ron Burton. Available on Spotify.

  • that is it.

  • this gives me hope. music is not lost. and seeing elvin jones just smokin away, makes me think that us, human beings, can make organic music

  • HAHA yea man i was wondering if it was just me or was he really smokin.

  • Savez vous où l'on peut trouver cette enregistrement bien précis de Naima?

  • Beauty, sophistication, and genius all at the same time. Exquisite. This is sacred space....

  • you can see their breath...I wonder if it was really cold in there.

  • Mccoy chords are so intense in this vid!..wssshhhh

  • This Shit is a Blessing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • funniest thing I've read all day. Thanks! :-)

  • perfectly described "about this video section"--tHANKz FOR THE POST OF THIS TIMELESS PIECE OF ART.

  • this is magic. people who used to take music seriously... approcahed their isntruments as if they were making love to it...so divine... and that respect towards music happened throughout the world (Brazilian samba/bossa nova; Colombian Cumbia; Afrobeat, etc) Too bad today's music industry need musical formulas to dictate success... poor music, porr spirituality making for poor human-beings...

  • Good afternoon friend, as have past?

You have the absolute right on the music of today. This means has become a market, today people do not make music with feelings, but by levies on the market.

It is a pity ... was a good time when the musicians gave their souls to compose a song, I see Coltrane playing with the heart ...

It is a pity that we have more Coltrne's there ...

Even more, thank you for comment

  • @DrThiMarques I have always felt like that too. Its a shame good musicians aren't getting heard people wanna listen to stuf they don't have to pay mind to, just something to listen to

  • well said--I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH U --HEART N SOUL INTO IT!!

  • @Neguinhoatento well said brotha

  • No WORDS

  • SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
