So inspired by this Coltrane piece in particular through studying/performing it in my undergraduate jazz studies course and combo classes that years later upon being blessed with a beautiful female siberian husky puppy, I quite naturally named her "Naima". Today sadly is the 2nd anniversary of Naima's death. And although I will never forget what a great friend & companion she was, whenever I hear this tune aside from experiencing a brief "heavy heart" moment, I think of her and smile : )
Take note how he doesn't stay on stage for the applauds, the sign of a true artist... he realizes the gift is a gift, and could never come from him...
its the one around those two seconds, after the buildup, its the first chord he plays right after he hits the root. I actually think it might be at 2:38 or 2:39
Great stuff. But if you want the perfect chord listen to The Black and Ragged Blues by Roland Kirk at 1.35. Now that is the perfect chord played by Ron Burton. Available on Spotify.
this is magic. people who used to take music seriously... approcahed their isntruments as if they were making love to it...so divine... and that respect towards music happened throughout the world (Brazilian samba/bossa nova; Colombian Cumbia; Afrobeat, etc) Too bad today's music industry need musical formulas to dictate success... poor music, porr spirituality making for poor human-beings...
You have the absolute right on the music of today. This means has become a market, today people do not make music with feelings, but by levies on the market.
It is a pity ... was a good time when the musicians gave their souls to compose a song, I see Coltrane playing with the heart ...
It is a pity that we have more Coltrne's there ...
@DrThiMarques I have always felt like that too. Its a shame good musicians aren't getting heard people wanna listen to stuf they don't have to pay mind to, just something to listen to

I'm not positive but through those facial expessions and playing style i'd say its garrison
freckleface409 2 years ago
You're probably right, I didn't really recognize Garrison here, dunno
