  • I have an 83 also, but i have the 2.8L V6. 5 speed though <3 :) i love it, and i think i will probably never sell it.

  • @maulalert

    Weird, I have the 2.8L V6 4 speed.

  • I love this,my 83 has 2.3 and Im haveing major problems with cracked heads.I guess the last one was the wrong Casting number as I understand it.I wish someone could shed some light on this problem as I have 450.00 in a cracked head again..But diesel would be the wy to go lost in a problem.Go Perkins 2.2

  • That's sick, it looks like it's going 10mph standing still... HA

  • i have a 84 ranger with a 2.2 diesel over a million miles on it and still runs strong 4 speed trans it wuz my dads when he died i restored it i love it how many of these trucks even exist? cuz i know its rare

  • lol, of course it has a stack

  • Damn, very nice find, Id like to find one, but they are really rare.

  • is the perkins 2.2 diesel an interference engine?

  • How about a drive?

  • do those come 4wd?

  • Dude sweet little stack there

  • i would kill to have that truck. i have a 1990 ranger with a 4.0 V6 but would love to get a ranger with a diesel motor in it no matter how big or small the engine is

  • the 2.2 was in rangers model year 83 and 84, then they went to a different engine with turbo for about 5 more years.

About once a month you see one on Ebay.

I have two of 'em, they're not fast but fun.

  • Was this a factory installed diesel? I see another video from another user with a perkins powered ranger. I thought diesel rangers were all 2.3 turbo?

  • I believe I've driven forklifts equiped with the same grunt 4 cylinder engine.

Not alot of power, but it does good in a 15,000lbs capacity Hyster forktruck that was in operation nearly 24 hrs. daily 5 to 6days a week on average.

  • Haha that thing is awesome! Wish i could have something like that. Don't get me wrong i love my V8 7.3 but...a littl 4 banger 2.0 would be nice for driving around town in

  • I'd love to have one myself with 4wd. 40-50 mpg, Hell yea.

However, I believe theses trucks were made to be sold only on the European Market, there's also a 5 cyl. diesel powered Jeep Cherokee that was made for the european market.

That also would be a kick ass mountain vehicle to have

  • @tarmac2001 you probably have, but the hyster 100 was the bigest to recive the 2.0 NA diesel, the 15 would have a 2.4 turbo or a 6.0 NA. not trying to nit pick just trying to educate.

  • I appreciate it, but from when I looked under the seat of a 90, 110 and under the hood of the 155 it seemed like they all had the same perkins motor. I didn't even see any duct work on the 110 0r 155 for a turbo let alone the whinding sound associated with a t-c diesel. Those models were built in the 90's though and the 155 mill really could of used another rat on the running wheel inside that block.

  • could have been the older models, the ones I deal with are newer, but just looking at it the 2.0 and the 2.4, they look exactly the same only difference is in the bore and on the ID plate.

  • dude that thing sounds fuckin awesome for a 4 banger diesel!!!

    make some more vids!!!

  • dude, you have the same ford ranger with a diesel engine and same 2 tone blue color! wish i didn't sell mine, was a great truck

  • I worked with a painter that had a truck like this one. It was up in Maine. Did these come stock or did you have to put it in yourself?

  • The Ranger came with a diesel from the factory from 83-85, maybe 86. Some were turbo diesel too. Extremely slow, but extremely fuel efficient; comparable MPG with a VW Caddy(30-50 MPG).

  • @Beldar4214

Ford used the Mitsubishi turbo diesel engine in the Ranger from 1985-1987, which was also the same engine used by Mitsubishi itself for its Mighty Max pickup and Dodge's twin, the Ram 50.

  • LMC Truck is a great place to find parts for trucks like this i got one for a Ford Exploder

  • cool

  • That engine is a rare find here in the states, wish I could find one.

  • hey man, i couldnt help but notice the stack, did it have a muff or no?

  • Very cool truck.I have a 1984 that I drive daily with 431,000km on it.I thought and was told it is a Mazda motor.I'm looking for a glow plug relay that is no longer available.Keep on truckin.

  • @Davelucken I use a Volkswagen glow plug relay in mine.

  • dont see many of those here in the united states

  • They got a good truck with this perkins in early 80's with 30 MPG and now they probably will comeback with diesel cause they can't get 20 MPG with ranger now :(

  • In Europe its only available with diesel engine..

  • I get between 32 and 35mpg highway with my 2003 Ranger 2.3 liter gasiloine with automatic transmission.

  • bull shit

  • Yeah I'm saying kmpg on that one, my 94 got no better than 24 and it was a 5 speed XL with no PS.

  • its not hard to get that kinda mpg if you drive the limit, Our old Grand caravan got 45 on a level road going 55

  • no shit? B)

  • I could see that acutally. The auto is going to be geared higher than the manual. If it's strictly highway, the engine is going to be turning lower RPM. If it's a regular cab it is going to have 3.73 gearing - better for mileage.

I've pulled 35 out of a Taurus before.

  • how...

  • 35mpg out of a Taurus? Steady throttle position (NO cruse control) at 70mph for 3 hours straight. No stopping.

  • hmmmm id have to try that....what eng?

  • 3.0 vulcan

  • hey same one i got i got flex fuel idk if that makes a diff...butdamnit imma have to try tht i only get like 20 city..

  • Sounds like a dumptruck lol

  • why the heck in it on a trailer? that's a disgrace to ford.

  • then what in your mind is better? i can tell you whatever it is it's not better than ford.

  • runs great I see.

  • That is cool as heck

  • clean looking engine...

  • that has all of about 60hp.

  • LOL.... but really i probably wouldn't doubt it.

  • yep, 60 hp but gets 40 mpg on the hiway and can pull CIII.

    that's diesel for you.

  • true, diesels do have a lot of torque.

  • and probably more then twice that amount in torque

  • where can i find a stack like that for my truck? also does yours go through the bed or along the side?

  • love the stack exhaust

  • This engine was made entirely by Mazda under a license from Perkins. Nothing English about this engine at all, its all Jap built. Ive heard they were built in a Mitsubishi owned plant for Mazda but not sure.

  • So was it a standard fitment then?

  • what ARE you talking about?

  • A British Diesel engine with a Japanese starter motor, eh!

  • Of course... this is a Perkins diesel that was co-marketed by Mazda and Ford. Mazda trucks that used this were the B2200s (early generation).

  • Oh, I see. Thanks for the info.

  • das ist nie im leben ein perkins :D

  • NICE!

  • I want ONE, so bad! This is about the rarest Ford Ranger Diesel ever made. Too bad when Ford stopped making the Ranger Diesel. They should make the power stroke versions of the new Ranger P/U's.

  • The truck you see is in really bad condition. It has been sitting in a junk yard for 2 years. I have an 84 gas ranger body that i am in the process of installing all the components in. I will have a new video of it when i get it completed. Oh by the way i gave $400 Bucks for the truck

  • @83Dieselranger id give 400 bux for a deisel truck any day ..... well any day i had 400 bux lol

  • @83Dieselranger damn, go karts cost more than that!

  • @83Dieselranger Rat Rod ;-)

  • @83Dieselranger

I bought an 83 Ranger for $400, gas version. Pretty badass. It needed some work, but I got it all done and it's amazing. You have a cool truck there.
