A few years ago I was privileged to see this orchestra live in concert. If you think these video cuts are terrific, by all means go see the band live if you possibly can! It'll be a lifelong memory for you, as it is with me.
Miller war seiner Zeit immer zwei schritte vorraus, für mich ist er der Vater aller Bigbands, und der Modernen Blasmusik, nur schade das es so ein tragisches ende nehmen muste
i woke up today and just had a feeling to listen to a big band, for no apparent reason. And it is ABSOLUTELY electrifying. Good thing i followed my guts. What a way to start a day.
Glen Miller was the pop music star of his age and his music has been played and enjoyed over 65 years.
I wonder how much of the pop charts will be played, live by bands, in 50 years from now? I genuinely feel sorry for the kids who will have to put up with the quality of the tripe in the charts these days and have to tell their kids that was the music they listened to.
oh man, those must have been the great days... music was relaxing, not causing pain in your ears, drummers just drummed and didn't slam their sticks at their drums, everybody was so chill about the music...
@guitboxchicken Glenn millers band has been around since the late 1930s. After he vanished in 1943/44 WWII from England flying to France, a mysterious cover up by the military..no surprise here! Millers wife kept the band going and that is why they sound just as good as they did back then. Watch the Glenn miller story, and the Benny Goodman story, both are awesome.
The bigband of the 30's was AMAZING!!!!! Screw this new crap we have, cause that is what it is, crap. Thank you Glenn Miller, and god rest your soul, a true American patriot. I think it would be amazing if America's style turned around back to the class of the 30's suits and fedoras.
Glenn has to be smilin' right about now!! He and other swing giants are just pleased that this timeless music is being carried on and hopefully being exposed to younger generations!
learnt american patrol today, and in the mood a few wks ago, im only startin out playin sax but i LOVE it and i love this timeless music... and i'm 17! Long live Glenn :-)
@tripleheshy =) I've heard grand things about the Glenn Miller Orchestra from a lot of my instructors in the University band I am apart of. =) My Director of Bands is a big supporter of the Glenn Miller BigBand. =) Gotta Love that sound...
@tripleheshy Yep, thanks to jazz band in eighth grade and an open-mind to music, I loove jazz and actually, when I found Glenn Miller and how awesome they are, when I went to the 5 dollar sale section in walmart, I was able to snatch a Glenn Miller two disc set for 5 dollars. :D How about that? hehehe, Go Jazz!
@tripleheshy well does 14 count as a younger generation? olol just kidding. jazz= 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000(modern)^2
@km426: You're right. This vid is from the "European" Glenn Miller Orchestra. They play in lisence from the Glenn Miller foundation in the US. There are 3 or 4 orchestras wolrdwide which are allowed to have the name "Original Glenn Miller Orchestra" as trademark
Yes Glenn Miller's plane was lost over the English Channel and was never found. The Band was not on the plane with him. There is a Miller Band which tours to this day in the U.S. The Estate leases the Name for a fee. There are other "Name" bands still working though the original leaders have passed away. I sang with The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. There's a Jimmy Dorsey, James, Shaw,Riddle, Herman, Basie, Ellington, Les Brown, Krupa and other "Ghost Bands" still working. Just a little history...
Umm cuz the glenn miller orchesta plane crashed in 43 so i doubt this is his original orchesta. Maby i was wrong, not everyone knows where this one is from.
I try to get the guys in my Jazz Band at school to do all those movemnets like swing around and kina dance a little and they are all chicken and don't do it!
Oh my gosh stop with the comments all I'm saying is that no high school instrument player would ever want to do any dance moves. They just want to play it, at least in my experiences anyway.
I really like the elderly gentleman with the tenor (or is it bari) saxophone. His demeanor seems to be that of benevolent enjoyment. I bet he'd be cool to talk to. He seems to really like performing, which is great.
great song and beat. who is the drummer? i like his style of light touch of playing and drum breaks? what or where can i find more of his playing on you tube especially to do with drum soloing?
Excellent!! So many of these ghost bands can be a bit disaPPOINTING BUT THIS ONE IS GREAT!wish they would come to Calgary
